Intense Spider 29er
Intense Spider 29 F*ck Cancer frame.
Specialized moto.
Employees at Specialized have full freedom to make some really creative things at work and this Demo motorbike is evidence of that.
Oscar
Meet Oscar - He keeps things in check at the 5.10 booth.
Diamondback Syncline
This is Charlie Sponsel's Diamondback Syncline DH bike.
ESI Grips
I was recently up in Pemberton and everyone up there was raving about these grips from ESI, so I searched them out here at the Sea Otter and will be giving them a try on my own bike soon. Have you tried them?
Topeak Fenders
Coming from the Pacific North West we know a little about getting wet while riding to and from work. Companies like Topeak make products that keep us as dry as possible on those wet days.
Freehub Magazine shaggin wagon.
Our friends at Freehub Magazine have made the pilgrimage from Bellingham in this sweet shaggin' wagon.
Gnarlube truck
Apparently the lube business is alive and doing well, check out this fancy rig from Gnarlube.
Turner DHR
Darkhorse Racing had their Turner DHR team bike on display and looking quick.
Jordie Lunn and his Rocky Mountain Flow
All around Canadian shredder, Jordie Lunn is rolling on Rocky Mountain frames this year and is pretty pumped on the support - good work buddy!
VOY Trek Session
This bike was presented to Sylvia filmers Karl Heldt and Matty Miles on Friday night after they won the Pinkbike.com Video of the Year contest - congrats!
Jill Kintner s custom Norco slalom bike.
This is Jill Kintner's custom Norco Slalom bike, aka "Jack the Ripper". Jill and Bryn will be racing the Sea Otter DH on Norco Sights with Fox 34 forks on them. Good luck on Sunday.

This is the third WTF instalment, but feel free to leave comments below for things you'd like to see pics of from here at the 2012 Volkswagen Sea Otter Classic.

i really want to give that demo motorbike a try Razz

Yeah, must be great working for a company like Specialized
  • + 1
If that appeals to you look into the KTM freeride 350. There's a youtube video of Cedric Gracia riding one. It even comes in an electric motor version. Seems like a perfect moto for the mountain biker.

flag badburke (Apr 22, 2012 at 7:16) (Below Threshold)
 never mind
  • + 8
Well considering you can't pedal the KTM 350, it weighs twice as much, doesn't use MTB components and has about 4 times as large an engine.... It's not very similar is it...
  • + 4
 Sick shorts Jordie..
  • + 9
Any more information on the Diamondback? Looks sweet.
  • + 1
Yes! Been waiting for some specs to surface on that for awhile.
  • + 1
Yeah me too... I'm also really intersted to see it called the "Syncline". That's a pretty "famous" trail here in OR/WA and I'd be intersted to know if their test crew is out here cuase I don't think that's a coincidence...
  • + 7
 Why do I always read ´what the f*ck´ Part 1,2,3... -.-
  • + 1
Is that not what it means? Confused
  • + 1
Apparently its 'what tyler found'... I was confused too for a while
  • + 1
I guess its just a play on words!
  • + 6
Oh god that turner is beautiful
  • + 3
 and that session
  • + 11
 and that Norco
  • + 6
 and that Jordie Lunn
  • + 2
and that dog at the 5.10 booth.

ESI grips are super comfortable and provide solid grip in wet or dry - BUT they shred easy, and a high mileage rider may get through more than one set per season. Any time you lay the bike down, they cut up at the edges on the slightest thing, even hard pack dirt cuts them up. I was using the thick version as imo the thin ones were for ladyhands.
  • + 2
I have lady hands, so I will try to thinner ones. The setting down of the bike will be something that I have to be aware of as lock ons have made me complacent.
  • + 2
there's no shame in having ladyhands....ride/ON
  • + 2
been riding the esi grips for a while on the dh bike and xc bike and while there great on the xc bike there way to easy to rip on the dh bike! after a crash in my race run i was left with only half a grip! lock ons for dh for me now!

I'd really like to see some info on the new Nukeproof Rook please Smile
  • + 2
HAHAHA! Specialized, Now thats funny. To bad shuttle buddy has been making that thing for 3 years already. Its called a motoped. check it out. Motopeds .com

www.pinkbike.com/video/171800
  • + 1
Motoped has that jackshaft tech patented,no? I smell Lawsuit! Pay up Big S!
+2 on the Motoped,SWEET!
  • + 1
FX Bikes have been making them for years. But you cant pedal. But then again why would you want to when you have an engine?
  • + 1
The Norco "4X" is intersting... I still think they could do better with it. But it is good to see them building short-travel "SS/Slalom" fully's again, maybe we consumers will even get one in the next few years. For right now though: I'm in LOVE with the 650B Sight... THAT is moving forward. 160mm travel and a 27.5" wheel... As someone who is "moraly opposed" to spandex and "XC Loops" the 650B is my 29'r slayer. Pluys it'll probably still hang with the 26'rs on the way down.
  • + 2
If you ride the ESI grips, don't leave your gloves at home. They're slicker than whale boogers on bare skin if you sweat or it rains.
  • - 1
Id like to see less slacking from the leading media site in mtb on product/ event information compared to your competitors, rather then quick photos that could of been shot on an iphone and uploaded faster to instagram for the same impact.

Jordie is killin it with those shorts tho haha
  • + 9
 Who farted in your breakfast?
  • - 3
Real talk, but really i was joking
  • + 2
Theres some thing about that diamondback that made me look twice. Looks mint...
  • + 1
 Anything from the Yeti guys!
Their 4x bike is no longer available ,What are they racing this year ?
  • + 1
Call me crazy but, for once, an electric engine on that moto-demo would not be such a bad idea...
  • + 1
Any chance you can take a shot of the green Line King's in the Five Ten booth?
  • + 1
Specialized demo motorbike completely impractical but the Fun and Bad Ass levels are off the charts.
  • + 1
Esi grips are comfy. But there 20 bucks!! Idk about you but 20 bucks for a piece of foam is way to high.
  • + 3
they're silicone not foam....I'd never put foam grips on a bike.
  • + 13
There are other things made of silcone that I want my hands around...
  • + 6
 ^^^^like your moms Dildo?
  • + 5
What ever floats your boat dude
  • + 1
Really cool stuff Brule! I am still waiting for a spy shot of Saint Di2 brakes
  • + 1
 Di2 is shimano's electronic shifting.
  • + 1
Yea I know, why not apply it to brakes as well? Let's do it C'mon!
  • + 1
maybe because theres already hydraulic brakes. electronic brakes sounds a little over the top
  • + 3
And Electronic shifting isn't over the top? I wonder if you need a SIMcard to make it work
  • + 3
I want to be able to control my brakes via 3G on my iPhone.
  • + 2
 Jordie wears Hot Pants ???
  • + 3
...maybe that's why he looks like he's in pain...
  • + 1
I think he's crying cause he saw his Rocky Mountain for the first time. But, he's gonna rip it anyways...
  • + 1
he looks like the lost member of the funky bunch in that getup. expect him to break out the running man at a moment's notice. (some early-90s American cultural knowledge is required)
  • + 2
I would totally ride the Pink Intense! Love it.
  • + 1
the super dirt moutain bike thing is kinda cool
  • + 1

  • + 0
The Strength in Numbers Trek looks sooooo sick when you looking at it for real!!
  • + 1
Fox 34 forks on the DH rigs? Time to see how these bad boys hold up!
  • + 2
 that norco is dual slalom
  • + 1
Oh, my bad. By 'Racing the Sea Otter DH', I thought he meant... Well, racing DH. At Sea Otter.
  • + 1
If you re-read that caption I'm pretty sure that MtBxKinG is right
  • + 1
what a war shimano+fox vs sram Smile
  • + 1
 perfect grips, simple and cool
  • + 1
ESI's are great, much better than I expected when I first saw them.
  • + 1
Also ridden the ESI's. Good grip and low weight...over all, a good light weight contender.
  • + 1
hi dmckiwi do the grips have a lock on 1 end or just glued cheers
  • + 2
No they are just as you see them, it does make them a bitch to get on so a compressor is your friend. They are bloody good though so the fitting issues are fast forgotten.
  • + 1
No need for a compressor to put them on. Just spray some window cleaner on the handlebars/inside of the grips and slide them on no problem!! Recommended by my bike shop and indeed works great. Make sure to let them "dry out" for 24 hours though (as it says on the package) or they can move about a bit.
Removal on the other hand : one of those days you wish you have a compressor in the garage Smile
  • + 1
I just tell the boys at the shop put them on Smile Pretty sure they use a bit of alcohol and a compressor, but as you said getting them off in one piece is a compressor job.
  • + 1
 ..
  • - 1
that demo bike looks fucking terrible with the plastics on it. Looks almost like some chinese shit
  • + 1
