A groomer means something VERY different in the UK.

  • 11 0
TBF lots of people enjoy the company of pre-pubescent children its only some that like to touch them in certain places
  • 13 4
Cor blimey, that was a smashing maneuver! Good show, chaps!

Yes, moefosho, because everyone in Britain is a 1930's RAF pilot.
  • 11 0
 he learned that from archer
  • 1 2
So ur telling me british people arent all '30's RAF pilots..? Jk haha. Love the fat suspension forks, only other ones ive seen were Dorados, and they had special wide crowns
  • 6 2
They should do a British edition of
"HITTING GROOMERS ON A FAT BIKE".
riding past pedos hitting them with sticks, on fat bikes.
Ha ha

I would buy tickets for that

Ok cool, everyone likes to go fast and get drifty. I gets that. But there is so much more to fat biking. I live in Alaska, so if I want to keep pedaling during the winter a fat bike really is my only option. I was a skeptic at first but as soon as I got the bike on my local singletrack I was amazed! It's like riding all my favorite trails but I have to be way more precise because it is so much more squirrelly and slippery. Low and medium speed drifts are a breeze. The ever changing snow conditions make it fun and challenging - some days it's a foot of fresh and super floaty, other days is bare ice and slick as $&!@, the best is when it sets up and gets tacky and feels just like hero dirt.

I know what's coming - all the comments that snow biking is gaaaaaayyy...... Ok, it's not mountain biking, it's not Freeride or dirt jumps or gnarly downhills. But it's time on a bike and can really be a blast when you really jump in.

I couldn't agree more Duc, I love mine. No way I'd ride it over my Bronson in the dirt, fatbikes are strictly for snow in my mind.
  • 1 0
Snowbiking is great as long as you have proper snow (the powdery type), where I live it turns into slush within days and after that point it only ruins your bike. If I'd live in a snowy place I'd buy one of these for sure.
  • 5 1
Actually, what you describe is all I have ever seen for fat biking. For me this video was something new and different. It made me want to try even more!
  • 5 1
snow biking is better than No Biking.. so if you live someplace that snows, sounds like they're the ticket for getting out and having some fun on a bike. Get after it, and keep your hands warm!
  • 4 1
Fatbiking is one of the funnest things to do. I picked me up a Pugsley years ago and I find myself riding it more than my other bikes, even in the summer. I love exploring dry river beds and washes that would never be possible on a normal mtb.
  • 2 0
 Looks so fun!
  • 3 3
there like riding a moped, soo much fun until your friends see you on one Wink

I'd rather just go skiing at the mountain, and take the fat bike out on trails.
  • 16 1
I think this is what people you have never heard of DH think I do when I tell them I go downhill mountain biking at a ski resort.
  • 5 1
man i get so sick of explaining DH to those squares!

Just got a fat bike this season, totally see them as almost a requirement to truely enjoy winter riding, especially if you spec it with some studded dellinger tires. But of all honesty, this thing would be a waste for the summer season. As a result, im not going to buy any summer tires for it and keep it strickly for the winter.
  • 1 0
I thought the same thing. Might wanna try it though. Great adventure bike in the summer if you have any trails that are sandy or golf ball sized gravel....tames those with ease. It also puts a fun twist on somewhat boring trails that are old news with your regular Mtb. It's hard not to have a blast on a FATBIKE any time of the year (unless you are on a paved road, then it sucks).
  • 1 0
To be honest there to slow for summer riding unless u actually need the float.
  • 1 0
Slighty slower than a regular bike would be my opinion of it. I'm talking seconds on my strava times though so It's really not noticeable. I was running the big fat larrys last summer though and they roll a lot smoother than my winter tires that I have set up now would (bud and lou). I like it for a training tool too because I try and race myself on my faster bike with it to mix it up. I probably ride it 25-33% of the time in the summer.

So where is Kelly Canyon? It seems a little odd to me that the ski resort doesn't mind that there are bikes on the slopes, AND that they still have the bike lifts on the chairs, but I don't know? Is that cool at most places, or does it require special permissions or a resort that understands folks can do this as a winter sport? Looks like a lot of fun, but something that requires pre-coordination.
  • 1 0
 Near Idaho Falls, Idaho, USA.

Special permission and probably quite rare. I am not aware of any other resorts that allow this.

Anyone else know?
  • 1 1
common place to ride for the poorer of the BYU Idaho students (Like my self 5 years ago). I love that place. Small, but cheap and very fun.
  • 1 0
Last I checked Kelly also allows Ski - Bikes.
  • 3 1
that looks like a lol. would quite like to see a 3 minute edit with some cool tailwhips and one foot x ups on these fat bikes. i once rode a surly krampus... it wasn't half bad.
  • 3 1
Jason you cheeky scamp, that's almost there. this fat biking in the snow looks like my sort of thing, my mates like to go skiing... which a bit mo for my liking, or snowboarding... which i'm not cool enough for.
  • 6 1
Haters are going to hate, while others just ride.
  • 2 0
Snow biking, only when the other choice is NO biking. These bikes are super practical is some very extreme parts of the globe, but the fact that people in places like Florida buy them makes me shake my head.
  • 1 0
 Agreed!
  • 1 0
 Does Florida have any sand?
  • 1 1
Makes me want a fat bike. I mostly only ever see xc on this things, but this was way better. I get bored skiing and boarding. I'd like to get more practice on wheels in the winter. I just hit eagle ranch bike park the other morning before the ground could thaw, and if I had a fat bike I could have ridden it just like dry turf with the berms and smooth ground that place has. As it was my tires sank into the snow and slowed me down too much. Good exercise and skills practice, but not as much fun. When I can get a cheap fat bike I will.

I have just returned from snow biking this evening and it is cold (-11°C), but ok. It is slippery, but ok. It is dark, but ok. It's all good apart from front tire skids. Does it get better with 3.7 inch tires?
  • 3 1
That looks like fun. And I bet it's 3x more fun in reality. And to all the haters…. odds are you'd have a shit eating grin on your face by the time you made it to base too.
  • 1 0
IDK... Kelly canyon looked like a lot more fun in SSX tricky...
  • 1 0
I learned to ski at this resort and grand targhee. Nice to see a familiar small place. I have ridden several trails there in the summer. Mostly atv trails but uncrowded and fun.
  • 2 0
Fat bike skinny bike any bike good bike. This is honestly the first time in years I have ever even thought riding on groomers looked fun.thanks for posting it.
  • 4 1
looks like fun might have to give it a go.
  • 1 1
It's cool as long as you only go down and have uplifts... To go uphill the snow needs to be reasonably packed and the climb not too steep, to me that's the main limitation or maybe my thighs are too small !
  • 2 1
 I wish I had a fat bike.
Just built up a Banshee Scream though with 3.0" tires. Should be good in snow and it won't snap in half off some gnarly snow drops!
  • 5 4
i spent 2 minutes waiting for something to happen, i'm sure its fun, but its more boring to watch than xce...
  • 2 1
same here, found it pretty dull compared to PB's usually high standards
  • 4 2
OMG OMG OMG!!!!!! I am so flippin jealous...
  • 2 0
Lets see how fat it can get!
  • 2 1
I don't know why they needed a fatbike to ride a groomed ski hill
  • 2 1
In those conditions, you had to have a fat tire to stay afloat and have the traction to stop. See above. A 2.5 would have been unusable.
  • 1 1
I watched the whole thing waiting for something cool to happen, it didn't...
  • 8 7
you could just ski or snowboard in the winter...
  • 7 1
or do it all. . . Why limit yourself?
  • 7 1
You could just hike in the summer. Why do you have to ride a bike? People like to do cool shit in different seasons. So weird...
  • 4 3
Bike on snow dont see the point in it .snows for boarding
  • 2 0
 Awesome.
  • 1 0
Looks shit, probably excellent fun when your doing it though.
  • 1 0
After seeing this I really have no need to snowboard again.
  • 1 0
Shame more ski resorts don't allow this! Looks like fun!
  • 1 0
the tires are nearly wider than the friggin bars
  • 1 0
 Hahaha! Kelly canyon
  • 7 7
 still dont like fat bike...
  • 3 3
Agreed, I think its a good form of excersize for those looking to ride in the winter but it doesn't interest me in the least, it doesnt suit the type or style of riding which I enjoy. I would however throw my 3 in gazzaloddi on the DH bike and ride down a a groomer.
  • 1 1
This looked like as much fun as skiing to me. No need for suspension on smooth snow, just flowy drifting and jumps smooth rolling hills.
  • 3 4
 Why not just ski?
  • 5 1
Why bike at all? There are plenty of fun things to do.
But I like bikes.
  • 3 2
 Really! is that it.
  • 2 2
Now try it on your standard bike, it will be 100 times better
  • 3 1
We found that even the 3.9 fat tires were too small to stay on top. The aggressive 4.7 tires were the ticket here for sure. And you need that traction to stop as well.
  • 3 1
 www.youtube.com/watch?v=PZOWzqXpk6M

This might give a better perspective on the snow conditions and why high traction, float tires were essential.
  • 1 0
Okay I see now I was wrong Smile
  • 1 0
For sure there are some snow conditions where standard bikes work. We've all seen sno-style and 4x races pop up now and again, but I think it has to be pretty hard packed and icy.
  • 1 0
Agree, thats what I meant. In the video here it is more about riding on prepared skislopes than the powder trap linked. Anyway snowriding is always fun
  • 3 3
That stem length, that bar width, that lack of fun.
  • 1 0
 i LOVE love love this!
  • 1 2
 hmmm
  • 2 5
if its been groomed you dont need a fat bike. I do this all the time on regular tires sometimes with wood screw studding.
  • 5 2
Even though it's groomed - its not perfectly solid, unless it's really cold and icy. You need the fat tires to stay on top, otherwise you just sink through, at least that was the case here.
  • 2 2
I ride a fatty in the woods, but every time I hit the groomers I want regular tires with wood screws. we have a lot of manmade snow here in the east and that stuff gets ICY!!!
  • 2 4
 One word - OZOM!
  • 2 5
I think I just threw up a little in my mouth.
  • 1 3
 That was so boring...
  • 1 3
 meanwhile in canada
  • 1 4
i have a real snow bike.. with skiis instead of wheels
