Specialized SRAM Enduro Series

The Enduro format is the hot talk of the town at the moment and so the relatively new discipline receives even more attention. A series was first held last year in German-speaking countries and after a successful start it goes into the second season. The aim to have more events has become reality; therefore there are seven races in four different countries on the schedule for next year. Next to the three established races (Please note Winterberg will not be part of the series anymore)and there are four new venues in the calendar to hold the additional events. The dates and venues are as follows:

Round 1 27/28 April 2013 Treuchtlingen (GER)
Round 2 04/05 May 2013 Riva del Garda (ITA)
Round 3 25/26 May 2013 Samerberg (GER)
Round 4 15/16 June 2013 Willingen (GER)
Round 5 06/07 July 2013 Kirchberg (AUT)
Round 6 27/28 July 2013 Kronplatz (ITA)
Round 7 12/13 Oct. 2013 Flims/Laax (SUI)

There is also a change in the title of the series. It will be known from now on as Specialized-SRAM Enduro Series, as SRAM clearly positions itself not only as main sponsor with the addition ‘powered by…’ as last year, but as title sponsor next to Specialized. This is to highlight the involvement and strengthen its recognition of the format and the series. iXS will also join the party as sponsor again next to the two title sponsors.

I rode in one of these events last year: Their fun but surely nothing you could not arrange yourselves in an area that has a couple of different trails (a la Dudes of Hazzard).

Stop shouting. And me too. I wish the thumbnail photo enlarged was a mandatory addition to the article.

I just stumbled on this: www.californiaenduro.com. Little details though.

It's tough watching the world go by from your little backwater of 315 million people... we're lucky even to have bikes with so little of the industry based here. Wait what?

Enduros are popping up in the US, we are just alittle behind. There are a lot of individual events out there at bike parks and trail networks, just no real series yet.

Naming a series solely after the title sponsor is a good way to ensure the series will have no staying power, since sponsors will inevitably change. It also gives the serious no character, there is nothing to relate it to except two cold, corporate entities, two large mega-corporations that are small company killers. I wonder who Specialized will sue next?

I love enduro and I'm not saying it won't be successful, but the name is a mistake, it gives you no idea where the series is even.

Right on. Then start your own, name it "F the Big Corporations Enduro Series," with the first prize being a used set of Oakley BMX grips, second prize a chain brush, and third prize a Microsoft Windows Phone.

I love the grass roots cycle of: "Support the small companies. Until they become too big. Then F them. Repeat." I wonder if the same thing was said of Schwinn, Murray, and Huffy back in 1981, when Specialized was a wee lil' company.

Like a Woodstock promoter once said, play and they will come.
