Riders: (in order) Marcelo Gutierrez, Dylan Forbes, Jordan Hodder, Justin Roy, Chris Kovarik, and Mitch Gulliver
Every season without fail, Crankworx explodes upon us here in Whistler bringing with it thousands upon thousands of riders and spectators alike. It's an amazing time of the season like no other; the best riders from the far corners of the planet congregate to compete in some of the gnarliest competitions on the mountain bikers calender! And that's it,10 days jam packed with races and comps for us to tune into on Pinkbike, go witness for ourselves, and just get stoked on in general... right?
For most of us that is exactly what Crankworx is, but there is another side of things that you don't always see. The week may be filled to the brim with contests but there is a small amount of time between them all, and that's where it happens. World Cup racers and FMB Tour champ's alike, spend their entire seasons training and competing but when you're in Whistler for two weeks with all of your bud's and at the foot of the world's best bike park...
It's play time! So while Marcelo, Forbes, and Hodder were out on the mountain we figured we'd film, away from the noise, away from the overwhelming crowds - but in their element!
The way I see it, after all of the Crankworx festivities are over and done with a vacation is good and needed! So we tracked down the Karver, filled the vans with as much bike and camping gear as we could possibly fit and set course for Lillooet, BC! Garbo sized tracks, dusty turns, gnarly steeps, not to mention a few wild horses roaming the side lines, needless to say the Della downhill has more then its fair share to offer. But after 2 nights and 3 days Lillooet had chewed us up and spit us out. We'd killed the battery in one of the vans, two flat tires on the same van, three cases of "self induced illness....'' and the fact that our camp/bottom of the trail was about 45 min from civilization didn't make it any easier! By the time the weekend had concluded we'd only actually made it to the top for 2 runs... not ideal. All in all it was a kickass road trip even if it hadn't gone according to plan, but then what kind of legendary road trip actually does?
