Waddell Picks Up The Pace in Western Oz.

The battle was on and intense, fighting it out for first and second place in the elite category at the third round of the West Australian State Series in Boddington (south of Perth). There was a good solid turnout of twenty-something top riders, as well as loads more in their own divisions. The Sun was shining, the weather was great, and the power was going straight onto the pedals around the awesome 14km course filled with steep DH sections, windy technical singletrack, and a fast fire road back up to the finish line.I was racing mainly on adrenalin and feeling so comfortable sailing through singletrack between the trees, leading practicually the entire race till I went and made a silly mistake on a log step over going into the last lap. The rider I had been battling it out with the entire race said at the finish" I had nothing left - I was just trying to hang on." The encouragement from the people around the course and the race commentators was fantastic, and my SRAM equipped Santa Cruz Blur was a dream bike to be carving up some great trails with.

This will be my last XC race in preparation for heading back to the states to take on the world (riders) at the 24hr World Solo Championships in Monterey, California (I can guarantee you'll be hearing from me about that and what hallucinations I can tell you about). There's no way I could ever have as much fun on two wheels without the Santa Cruz Syndicate, their affiliated sponsors, JetBlack Products (the most stealth cycling products available), and the Red Bull energy drinks that allow me to power these products.

Love the Ride!
