Victor Smith is nothing short of a pinner, shredder, gnar-getter, or any other adjective you can imagine to describe someone who kills it on a bike. His results on and off the race course are proof of that. At the 2013 Whip Off World Championships in Whistler, Victor crashed in one of his "tie breaker" runs and walked away with a broken back. But despite the crippling pain, he was able to fight his way to a top five finish! Victor's background in moto racing has clearly transferred over to the MTB world in his speed, style, and mental toughness and helped him earn an astounding 4th place overall finish at the NorthWest Cup in what was his inaugural year of pro downhill racing. While not destroying trails with his TR450, Victor can be "found" building them as part of the famous Treelines crew.

Although the Hidden Wave Board Shop in Burlington, WA is primarily a snow/skate shop, the backroom is Victor's homebase for bike maintenance. The Hidden Wave's owner, Adam, is also the proud owner of the Treelines brand and supporter of the Treelines crew.

To say Victor can whip would be an understatement. This whip was thrown minutes AFTER Victor had broken his back. Photo credit goes to the one and only Sterling Lorence.

Victor calls the PNW his home and rides in one of the oldest freeride/shred zones in existence.

Victor would like to thank his sponsors for all of their support in the 2013 season and is looking forward to what is coming in 2014!

hahaha I stand by my music choice. Can't please everyone! I'm thinking Backstreet Boys for my next one... I hear they're making a comeback.

Backstreet Boys are constantly coming back!
I liked the vid overall, but I preferred the later part (the jump section) because the camerawork was more dynamic.. I missed that in the first 2 minutes..

Great vid, stoked me out!

I actually dug the song choice. Just needed to hear his wheels on the dirt in a shot or two. Sweet vid though!

i'm with iamdavid on this one. it wasn't even ironically bad pop music, i feel like BSB woulda been better for this hahah - at least the energy would be there! that said, riding was fantastic and i loved it once i turned the volume down!

Can't believe I'm saying this but I actually would have preferred dub step in this edit.

Awolnation-sail or Imagine Dragons-radioactive would be a great choice. Try it in one of your next edits. You can thank me later Wink

That song completely wrecked this whole video for me I only made it to 0:53 before I hit stop. Great riding from what I saw but man that song was such a turn off.

Wait a minute..he broke his back and then started throwing whips like Indiana Jones? Holy balls!

If I have to hear Imagine Dragons in one more edit, I just might make an edit using One Direction music... or maybe Carrie Underwood... how about the theme from Grey's Anatomy?

I'm sick of seeing videos of only left sided whips. I find it refreshing to see one with only righties.

Nice job Reilly and Victor! PNW representin'!

How in the hell is it possible to ride or even move with a broken back!?
  • 1 0
His back was broken. Not currently broken. And with the right rehab its not too bad. I broke my back in Jan 2009 and was back riding by September 2009. The Claw broke his back 5 weeks before X-Games and still competed. I actually feel it more when I'm sitting on my butt than when I'm riding.
  • 1 0
This states he did that jump WITH a broken back! Having just broke it 5 mins before! I'm not talking about having recovered from one.
  • 2 0
Tmacattack: Victor had broken his back in the whip off a few minutes before he threw down that massive whip. If you look closely you can see that his shoulder is covered in dirt from his crash.

Damn! Didn't know that little factoid! Just goes to show how much more savage mountainbikers are than people think!
