The Golden Hour - Ibis Video

May 31, 2012
by Tyler Maine

In April, Anne Caroline Chausson flew over from France so we grabbed Brian Lopes and Andrew Whiteford and did a week of photo and video shooting. Over the coming months we'll release a few videos. We hope you enjoy.

The thought behind this video is that sometimes the best part of your ride happens in the last hour of your day. Too tired to go big, but so dialed into your bike and the trail that you just flow. Even for the best, most competitive riders in the world there are times like this. We captured Brian, Anne Caro and Andrew doing just this, carving some nice turns at the end of a long day.

This is the first video in a series. We recently followed the same three athletes for a week in Southern California, filming and shooting along the way.

Shot in East Orange County, at Whiting Ranch.

Cool vid. I was watching an thinking must be nice to be Lopes. The other guys carrying all the gear. I ride with a pack an I hate giving my spare tube to some dude that doesn't carry a pack.

this happened to me a couple of days ago. i had to deflate my tire because the tube popped out from my front tire after i crashed (weird crash, LOL!).

i didn't bring a backpack because my house from the trail was just approximately 4 kilometers away, i took it for granted. so asked for help from a fellow mountain biker for a pump but the valve broke by accident so he gave me his tube. i felt embarrassed using his tube. i told him i will replace the tube but he said i don't have to. i became his riding buddy that day and showed him around since he was new to calgary moving over from BC for work. now i bring a backpack even if its just a short ride at our local trails.

Everybody needs to stop comparing this vid to the loops vid. It's a completely different topic. For me, this video is cool because I always ride whiting so its cool to see the pros there

Personally I liked it. Unlike the usual pinkbike videos of guys hucking of ridiculously gigantic cliffs (which admittedly is fun to watch) I find the videos of trail riders working for their downhills makes for just as good of videos. The fact that world champions anne- Caroline Chausson and Brian Lopes are in the video is impressive as well. So overall, I really don't know why people are ripping on these videos so much. These riders earned it.

I just watched Life in the Loops.. this paled in comparison..

great video it may not be guys chucking them selves off cliffs but it just shows mates going out for a ride and enjoying them selves isnt that what riding is truly about.

This was the "mellow" riding from the week. No, it's not gnarly, nor is it supposed to be. It's just cool riding fast and smooth and trying to carve corners behind those two. To the person above who noticed- good eye, Lopes slipped a pedal into that turn. I didn't notice till I saw one of the rough drafts of the edit that had the tighter angle on it. Certainly didn't slow him down, cuz I still couldn't keep up. Ha! I'll have a GoPro vid up from the whole week soon...basically a lot of me eating their dust. Cheers!

where was the golden part, the lighting in the video looked kinda dull! did the sun even hit the riders at any point? edit: I just checked, one riders face was lit up in the intro then they proceeded to ride in the shade for the next two minutes.

at the beginning between 38s and 44s just before the 44 second of the video did matey at front snap is chain or like unclipped him self or like crashed.... who knows but watch it closely!!!!1
  • 1 0
Unlikely he snapped his chain ,he was hardly motoring, probably momentarily feel asleep at the wheel (bar)!
  • 1 0
maybe he just stopped because they were only shooting that part of the trail from that angle since they were getting the turn from another angle ?
  • 1 0
It definitely looks like it wasn't on purpose! Maybe slipped a pedal?
  • 1 0
looks like a weird place to slip a pedal though, and he's clipped in : P

Thanks for embedding with Vimeo! The performance and fullscreen/hd modes are nicer than pinkbike video embeds... and if you like it, you can often download it to your computer.

I can't wait until Ibis releases their DH bike. Saving my pennies!!!
  • 7 1
more like stacks of 100 dollar bills
  • 1 0
I can tell you now, that Ibis will not be releasing a DH bike. For one, there is not a big enough market in it, for them.
  • 1 0
I would almost (almost!) place money on the fact that Ibis will release a DH bike. It will look a lot like their new 29'er's suspension platform, the Ripley. And yes it will take BIG stacks of 100 dollar bills to buy! Can't wait!
  • 3 0
Trust me when I say they don't even have one in prototype form and don't plan to at the moment....

And on the money front, it wouldn't be big stacks of bills. In the UK, a Mojo HD retails for about £2300 frame only, that is about £300 LESS than the majority of other carbon frames available on the market.
  • 1 0
Yeah, the frame cost is very comparable across brands. to say carbon is boutique I think is over. when I bought mine, the price was not limiting. The DW link is licensed to companies that produce DH bikes, Turner and Pivot. Not sure if Ibis wants to jump into that game. But hey, I could be all kinds of wrong about that.

wow! a fell asleep for a minute there

That was like watching myself, really nothing special there. I supose it made me want to ride, but just sitting here makes me want to ride.
  • 2 0
I liked the other Lopes-Ibis vid from laguna Niguel, but this one's a tad boring and uninspired.
  • 2 0
That gal could ride I thought! I wish I could find a nice young lady to go riding with.
  • 1 0
yeah she was nipping at Lopes' heels the whole way. got speed? yup.
  • 1 0
She does have the record for most World Cup wins...and 19x World Champ. And an Olympic gold medal...
  • 1 0
yeah, you don't mess with ACC. she will take you to school.
  • 2 0
Good to see ibis making some videos. Hope to see more and more aggressive riding from them.
  • 2 0
There has to be a better trail to show what a mojo can do - disappointed...
  • 1 0
Totally, my HD handles trails over here in Nelson. Forest, roots, rocks, some drops. No drama. The trail in the vid is hard tail friendly but so what still enjoyed watching.
  • 1 0
All of you guys hating on the videos arnt respecting the trails! I ride those trails all the time and they are fun..maybe not technical but a lot of fun!
  • 3 0
 Whiting,,,, REALLY????
  • 2 0
That's pretty funny, I thought the same thing. Rode there this weekend. The video makes it look nicer than it is.
  • 1 0
I am just glad to see a video where people actually pedal their bikes...music sucked though
  • 2 0
