The Hanger-Vancouver's newest indoor park for bikers!

A recent newspaper headline read...
“We've Quit Joking about the Weather - Four more damp days will wash away a 52-year-old record”. Translation: Great, a month and a half of my not riding. It looks like more days of the same lie ahead.Record or no record, rain in Vancouver is part of the city's experience. From my place on the shore I have a view of Vancouver. Vancouver Island is the backdrop. Right now there are patches of clear skies. For a couple hours we have had a break from the rain. I'm betting the skate parks are almost dry. But as I look out towards the Island I can see more rain clouds rolling in. Its looking like I'm not going to be able to ride park tomorrow and that makes me sad. I just want to ride some dry transitions and I'm jonesing to ride them NOW.

The fact that Vancouver is getting a new skatepark, not just any skatepark, but an indoor facility is keeping me sane. The indoor park will be located in North Vancouver and it will be known as the HANGAR. It has been put together by a couple of young men from the North Shore. They received input on design and running the park from a range of athletes and business minded people. It will be just shy of 10,000 sqft. wood/concrete street style park with accompanying snack and bike/skate shop. Check out the tentative design plans for the park itself- see attachment. The park's location is easy to access, 20 minutes from downtown, and is a 5 minute walk from the Seabus. More details about the park will be made available as the Hangar nears its opening date, expected to be mid-spring.

The Hangar is currently collecting membership information for the park. If you’re interested in riding at the Hangar then go to www.jumpcrew.com and sign in on the form. You have the option of purchasing a yearly or monthly membership. Right now you do not have to purchase, the sign in form is solely to get a feel for the support from the community. Currently the Hangar is soliciting support from you as a potential member. The people behind the Hangar want to get a good idea of how many people are interested in an indoor facility. They are also seeking industry supporters for upcoming events and for the facility itself. Opportunities to advertise within the Hangar also exist. The support from both you and the industry is imperative for a successful park, one that is an ongoing, integral part of the sport community. Please contact Marc Stokes for more info regarding these opportunities.
