Tiger MT Enduro - Seattle, Washington

Sep 25, 2012
by Paris Gore
Sitting in a board meeting for the Evergreen Mountain Bike Association four months ago, we were given the go ahead to start planning an event on Tiger Mountain, near Seattle. With the rise of enduro in the Northwest it was a clear decision to use the new East Tiger Summit trail. Built this summer through our partnership with the Washington DNR, it is the first sanctioned trail to run from the summit of East Tiger. We quickly decided to use East Summit and the Preston Railroad Trail as the premiere leg of a three stage race.

Shimano was out here in full support helping riders out with their bikes during the race.

It’s hard to promote a race for the first time, on trails that carry so much meaning to so many people, and to know how everyone will receive it. Despite our fears, the initial response was overwhelming and despite a rainy race day (the first real rain in 60 days!), pre registration filled up and brought about a massive turnout.

Big Tree Bikes owner Zeb Tingey was on a fire of a run today. Unfortunately he took a wrong turn and headed down another trail for a while.
Diamondbacks Simon Lawton heads into the abyss during the second stage of the race.

The photos really tell the story of the new trail and the race. An awesome atmosphere and some epic trail conditions helped us pull off an event bigger than we anticipated. Despite some missteps we’ll be back next year with a better plan and a bigger race. We’d like to thank our premiere sponsors, Shimano, FSA and Diamondback, and our shop sponsors Gregg’s Cycles, Alpine Hut and Second Ascent. The beer garden from Snoqualmie Brewing was a great place to swap stories and plan for next year.

We’re looking forward to putting it on again and everyone who came out to support. We look forward to seeing who will be the King and Queen of Tiger next year!

Was just telling my buddy we should do a tiger run before it gets to sloppy, awesome place for a little local dh if you don't mind the 2.5 mile gravel road climb. Awesome pics and such a sweet place to ride!! Gotta love that northwest mud!

THE Northwest quintessential mtb trial. It has a little bit of everything found in NW, IMHO. Been killin' it all summer. The new section at the top is fast and fun. Did add some more climb to the already 3.2 miles.... Looks like it was good times for the race. Not very well advertised.

 Awesome pics Paris! Thanks.

Time to get out and help build more trails on Tiger Mtn....next years Enduro could be off the hook with TWO descents off the summit. (how about a mega Enduro!)

New trails and Mountain Bike racing on Tiger....I would not have dreamed about this only 3 months ago. Thanks to everyone that has made this happen especially the DNR, Evergreen and everyone who volunteered to do some digging

The event was awesome! Very fun format. I rode with a group of friends and it was very cool to do the transition stages with your buddies, then rip down and see who could get the fastest time! The event sold out in less than week (120 rider limit), so you had to act fast to get in.

 Why weren't you Bob?

A cross bike could help on that nasty climb, but I think the frequent rock garden/water bars and roots would be too much for 32c tires. That being said, I'd love to try it, especially on the new summit trail.
