You can t tell how badass this gap is but Ratboy here was one of the only guys clearing the hole after this rock. And this rock is slicker than Miami Bryce working a crowd of Quebecois local girls at tonight s after party.

Full gas on his final practice run Gee Atherton in the upper woods.   Sam Hill with the Ringwraiths hot on his tail, descending through the upper woods near Rivendale. That's a Lord of the Rings reference for the uninitiated, and it's supposed to highlight the fog and trees that account for the majority of this photo. Typically the blue and white guy on the left-hand side of the photo would be the subject of a race photo, but because the trees were so pretty I wanted to capture that, instead.

After his recent winning ways Remi Therion s 31st in qualifying came to a surprise to many. He hit a tree fairly hard in the morning and took the qualifications easy.

Third place with this absolutely destroyed chain guide and a bent pedal spindle for Blenki. Nothing short of an amazing ride given that the damage occured high up on the track.

Blenkinsop has been steadily fighting his way back towards the big time after a little while in the background. His best MSA performance to date is 6th in 2008 but encouragingly today he roosted his way into 3rd.

After poring over photos and compiling a veritable database of recent Aaron Gwin photos in-house photo analysts at Pinkbike have confirmed that Gwin is producing 14.2 more roost from his back tire since the new longer chainstays. That s science people.

Atherton ejected on the upper portion today but limped home only 10 seconds back. Still it s been a while since Gee began with the weekend with only 7 new points to call his own.

Knee pads only take the edge off a crash at 50 kph the zone where Gee went down is very high speed and loaded with brick sized rocks. Gee was lucky to walk away from that with 18th place and a few bumps bruises and a gashed knee. He should be good to go for the final on Sunday.

What you can t see under that helmet is the sweet Quebec-appropriate old-timey-movie-bad-guy mustache. It s real nice and hopefully we ll see it in all it s glory on top of the podium this weekend. Pinkbike s supposed to be unbiased and objective but hey we re a Canadian site so we can just come out and root for Sender Steve.

bigquotesI felt good today... The run was awesome, every corner I passed was like 'oh wow this dirt is amazing' you could push so hard and by the time I got to the bottom I was just stoked. It was a clean run with no mistakes so just try to go from there quicker and quicker, treating that qualifier like I came in 20th when Sunday comes- Stevie Smith, Devinci Global Racing

And tonight in typical Mont Ste Anne fashion... then came the rain. See you on a very muddy track in the morning!

"calling into question Remi's bike and his decision to ride for Commencal in general"

What are you raving about?
  • 43 0
They're joking about how Gwin had been getting so much crap for not winning (etc) since he switched to Specialized
  • 7 8
"Commencal will be sending him a new swingarm with a longer chainstay to help alleviate the problem." I'm not sure if Pinkbike is just taking the piss out of it?
  • 28 1
Hahaha it's sarcasm, taking the mic about gwin's move to specalized and the bike not working for him. Nothing serious about commencal!
  • 4 0
 Oh okay, makes sense Smile

Busting captions like a lyrical poet, busting fractions off the clock and you know it,

every tiny shred of the track to be computed, witty banter and all the fun undiluted,

that's enough from me, I'm gone, I'm out, having fun with the shred is what its all about Smile

this was really good reporting. but i have to say, by the last pic, i had to scroll up and check which website this was: had a distinct VitalMTB feel to the reporting. Frankly, doesn't matter: it's brilliant reporting and even better for the sport! Keep it up PB!

64kmh on a track like this is insane! 39mph for us British folk ..
  • 3 1
i would like to see where the trap is personally
  • 2 4
Seeing as there are many runway flat motorway sections, it's not that insane. Many people complained it was too groomed.. Maybe not so smooth after all the practice but still.
  • 6 8
what sort of knob gives somebody a neg prop for saying you would like to see the trap area......go serve yourself a large dose of f**k off you weirdo.

serious a*sholes alert
  • 1 0
Well this knob gave you a neg prop for crying about props. They are worthless internet points. For all you know, someone may have accidentally hit the down vote button. I do it all the time. Chill out there kiddo.
  • 1 1
point proven cyrix, throbbers unite ! the neg means jack schit BTW - the thought behind it however.
  • 1 0
Is that neg prop remark aimed at me? Because I didn't neg anyone!
  • 1 0
No, if you read my entire message, the context should make it clear I was talking to jmbrit, as he is the one crying about downvotes.
  • 2 1
i aint crying u muppet - i was saying what type of knob gives a neg prop for a query over the trap zone, you fulfilled your destiny and clarified my question by showing the type it takes. i suppose it's your little bit of internet power but I suppose mummy stopped breast feeding early so you are entitled
  • 1 0
Nothing you said makes sense. I don't downvote anyone unless something they post is incredibly offensive, or incorrect information. You really need to stop caring about props and get over this. Cheers.

I still don't understand the shaved legs vs. unshaved legs war. Ever peeled bandaging away from body hair AND a wound? Not awesome. Also, I hear it makes you waaaaaaay faster with the drag reduction and all. Wink
  • 2 0
you don't necessarily have to razor shave them, you can just trim the hair off with a trimmer w/o a guard. it's funny that lots of guys have this idea that there's only one way to reduce the length of body hair. leg hair is the same stuff as beard hair. and yes, it would seem to be obvious (?) that he trims or shaves his legs.
  • 2 0
I ride flats and when I slip and gash open my shins, I shave my legs to help keep the bandages I use in place, otherwise they just won't stay.
  • 6 0
Good stuff. Excellent reads and shots to match.

I'm actually hoping to see Hart produce a podium run on Sunday.
  • 3 0
ewww at the 'clutch move' comment. such a terrible new slang word. when people use it, we all all wince like someone just threw a cold cup of water on our backs. Ick. Negative props are predicted but i dont censor myself Smile
  • 1 0
"Clutch, bro" is an automatic deal breaker. Every. Single. Time (Unless, of course, they cringe and immediately redeem themselves by laughing out loud). I'm with you on this one.
  • 1 0
for a french dude : what does it means?
  • 1 0
It's just another slang saying along the lines of 'epic', 'rad', etc. Smile
  • 1 0
Huh, do people think clutch is a new slang term? I've heard it for the last 15 years used in the action sports world, snowboarding, MX, MTB, F1, Rally, Baseball, Hockey, Basketball, Soccer, Football, Golf, etc.... Heck, even Billiards.
