The 2007 Toronto Bike Show X-Track Dirt Comps-Results

The 2007 Toronto Bike Show X-Track Dirt Comps went down in el grande style last weekend. Thursday nights' huge snow storm turned rain threw a curve in travel plans for some, but with $8000.00 cash divided out to the finalists and the best course yet, the riders went off large. The track featured an S shaped set of first turns which led to some good lines for racers and stunt riders alike, with a variety of step, double and tabletop jumps.Friday nights Tim DaSilva memorial all wheel challenge race was awesome. After some trouble with the gate system and Tims little bro Chris eating it twice, a jimmied version would have to do. Tims whole family was on hand including his sister Jess and girlfriend Lindsay who joined the riders for some kind words and presented us all with wristbands we proudly wore in memory of our friend and former champion. When the qualifier dust settled and the mens pro main loaded up on the gate there were two Americans and two Canadiens, all on mtb's. The win and title will be going back to Cali with GTs own Brian Lopes.

Friday night saw the track crew rebuilding the gates electronics sytem in the hotel room and jacking a car battery for a weekend back-up plan and we were back to a consistent start system. Come showtime, it was all Flyin' Brian Lopes, as he showed the crowd why he is a multiple world champ by demolishing the comp all three days on both mtb's and bmx, yes bmx. Lopes dragged out his GT 20" and rocked the house in the t-dot.

We had Logan Peat put on a dirt clinic in what was supposed to be the dirt comps, as he rolled up the whole mtb stunt class and bagged two big pro stunt wins. Logans runs were long and linked with a flawless birage of flips, 360 variations and a twitch of tech to show he is well rounded in his skills. Saturdays am stunt mtb winner Matt McDuff brought a bag of goodies to the pro stunt class on Sunday good enough for the third place finish.

Hopefully kid Kyle Pearson enjoyed his last two am battles, as the double wins will have him bumped up to the pro class for next year. Other noteables included 17 year old Tyler Simpson qualifiying for two pro mains and proving he is for real and will be a major contender in the years to come. Lee Ryckman was flawless again in her pro womens comps taking wins in both bmx and mtb all three days. Am MTB rider Tommy Lucas was the draw winner of Kona Pro rider Doug Beatties race bike and seemed to be good with that.

Thanks to all of our sponsors Kona Bicycles and Matt Stevens, Pizza Pizza and Shimano. Thanks to the folks at the bike show, our track crew and all the riders who helped make the 2007 show a fun and successful event.
