Tuesday Randoms - Eurobike 2012

Aug 28, 2012
by Matt Wragg
Today was the outdoor demo day here at Eurobike - everyone heads an hour out of Friedrichshafen to Ratzenreid to try the latest bikes out on the trails and roads around the town.

Overview of the exhibition area.
Sure this looks like quite a a big deal, but it's not even a fraction of the size of main show.

Meat and bread.
This may look like lunch, but in fact this is breakfast heading out to the exhibitors. They run on heavy fuel in these parts.

Horns.
Men in lederhosen (and a lady in a red dress) playing giant horns were this morning's entertainment, of course.

Faces of the demo day 3.

Some of the faces around the show today.

The exhibition area.
Even though the public aren't invited to the demo day, it was still packed out with dealers, distributors and journalists.

Test rides.
There was a strict dresscode for test rides, sadly none of us had the lycra or peakless lid to join in with the fun.

I have no idea.
Some times you see a new invention and wonder why nobody had ever thought of it before, other times you wonder why they thought of it. Guess which one this was...

Max with the new Carver TwentySix.
Details of the new Carver bike.
Max Schumann was showing off Carver's newest bike, the Twentysix. It's a bit of a unique bike, they worked with the forum users on Germany's MTB-News.de to develop every aspect of it. From geometry through to suspension design it has all been developed from their input. The result is a 150/170mm trail bike with a 65/67 degree head angle that can be adapted to take 27.5 inch wheels.

Desktop pumptrack
How much do you want a desktop pump track? Bikeparchitect were supposed to be showing us their full-sized pump track, but this stole our attention completely.

Beer and sausages for lunch.
It doesn't matter where in the world you come from, when you come to Germany it's sausages and beer for lunch.

Mike was excited at the prospect of a bus ride.
Always easily pleased, the highlight of Mike's day was the bus journey home.

Tough day...
  Down for the count.

Mitch is up and walking
This was a good sight to see when we returned to Friedrichshafen. Mitch Chubey smashed himself to pieces at Les Deux Alpes six weeks ago, so it's great to see him up and walking so soon.

Setup in the main hall 2.
Details from setup.
Setup in the main hall 1.
Inside the main halls it looked like long days all round as people rushed to get their stands ready for the show opening tomorrow.

Dinnertime.
We've found our spot for dinner this week. Around the corner from the apartment is this sweet, local restaurant who serve great meat and proper-sized portions.

The Niner.
Niner are in the lead for the pimp van stakes so far this week. This matt-black Crafter had us feeling a bit jealous.

What s in the box
The local printers around town stay open late as apparently there's always a need for last minute printing when the mountain bike industry rolls into town...

Hotel Zeppelin in Friedrichshafen Germany
One of probably 3 Hotel Zeppelin's in town.

I saw a few DVO shirts. I am excited to see what they will produce fork wise

Really interested in their stuff as well. RS and FOX forks just don't do it for me like the Marzocchi stuff does. Here is to hoping they can shed a little weight and carry over the same supple characteristics!

Rock Shox isn't my favorite either. Not enough time on 40 to really appreciate it. I rode the 888 TI V2 on a TR450 and I didn't like it. Really wasn't happy. I really want to try a 40 more. I have a 2012 Dorado now and that really does it for me

Pretty cool tht they made a bike on advice from a forum community. It would only work in germany though, could you imagine a bike made with any advice from Pinkbike?
An enduro bike with 900mm bars, 6 gears, look new but cant have any new standards and the paint job just be boobs everywhere Razz

Home Bicycles in France did the same, mostly from inputs from people on the forum, and now they've released a cool looking and riding bike Smile

Yet too expensive for me Frown

or just imagine a bike made from the Ridemonkey.com community Big Grin

anyways actually I am pretty impressed with what they came up at Carver Bikes and mtb-news.de
and the final product should be awesome for the pricepoint they are aiming for

That pump track builder set looks way cool. I could see me spending way to much time (to the displeasure of my wife) designing tracks.

They'd be great for planning out a track to actually dig, I want a set. Or two.

There should be a contest for guessing the right # of bikes stolen this year...

I hope 0 But being a victim of someone stealing my 951, I can sure say they are a ton of douche bags out there that love stealing bikes

Carver looks cool. Dig the ability to run 27.5. Creeping pictures aren't that bad considering most of them are of dudes. The stand up cycle is I think for those that want to train for skiing.
