This past weekend we headed down to Sydney, Australia, to catch up with some of Unit's BMX riders and film a session at Josh Stead's local trails. Josh has long been regarded as an amazing BMX dirt jumper and has the perfect mix of style and banger tricks.

Recently Josh has also been riding some MTB, and it seems his talents are equally as good on the 26-inch frame. The guys from Deity hooked him up last year, and Josh went onto score 2nd place, Best Trick and Best Whip honors at the AT Showdown.

Josh joined the Unit family at the start of 2011 after his good friend and big dirt jumper, Dane Searls, put in a good word. Josh fits the Unit image perfectly and joins Dane Searls as one of the few guys currently pushing the limits of BMX dirt jumping. Josh has been assisting Dane in construction of the Giants Of Dirt, helping refine the set-up and make it safer and more achievable without sacrificing the size or the overall goal of the project. We can't release any information right now, but since you last saw the Giants Of Dirt videos, the jumps have been totally rebuilt and Dane has accomplished more than ever before. Stay tuned for the videos and photos dropping in the coming months.

The main goal for this trip was to give Josh the opportunity to produce his own video edit, and he definitely turned it on for the camera! Unit's resident video producer Allan Hardy, and photographer Raine Turnbull had just one day to get it done, and from the minute we rolled up to the trails Josh pumped out run after run until the sun went down. He is a really motivated rider and takes advantage of every opportunity in front of him.

The highlight of the day was definitely Josh's incredible Double Backflip. We have never seen anyone do a double backflip in a set of tight trails like this before and on just the third run of the day (that's right, literally only the third run of the day) Josh called out the double! It was obviously the big trick that Josh was hoping to nail for the edit, and he wouldn't be able to focus on anything else until he had nailed it.

We were joined by a few of Josh's good friends throughout the shoot. Chris Harti was one guy who definitely stood out, and you could see him and Josh pushing each other all day to go higher and ride harder. Chris is originally from Canberra and is always one of the riders who stands out every year at Cam White's Hillside Dirt Jam. He doesn't chase the big tricks, but has so much style and boost on anything he rides.

Ben was another local who rode and you could see a lot of Josh's style in Ben. He rode solidly all day and ended up having a big crash while trying to flip the first jump, which he had never done before. It was definitely a fun time hanging out with Ben and the rest of the locals, who had a sweet campfire going, roasting marshmallows, music and laughs all afternoon.

Josh introduced us to Ben at the trails he was riding great all day and you can see alot of Josh s style in Ben. Photo Raine Turnbull
