On April 6th and 7th 2013 Vienna is looking for its "Air King 2013". It is already the eighth time that the popular VIENNA AIR KING event as part of the ARGUS BIKE FESTIVAL will gather the crème de la crème of the dirt scene on the Vienna City Hall square. The fans can expect some great course developments: a new ramp, designed to send the riders higher than ever before! Currently, the prequalifying is under way. Riders from all over the world have the opportunity to apply for the contest in Vienna and the top 50 will be invited to VIENNA AIR KING.Beginning of April, the ARGUS BIKE FESTIVAL with around 100,000 visitors creates the perfect setting for one of the most beautiful contests in the FMB World Tour. The picturesque backdrop is the perfect scenery for 70 of the best dirt riders as they perform their newest tricks between the historic Vienna City Hall and Burgtheater. Right on the „Rathausplatz“, an ambitious course will push the riders higher into the air than before. Compared to the last years it has undergone some changes, in order to keep up with the fast progression of this sport. So it’s up to the riders to show the crowd their best tricks on this new course.
In 2013, all the big names will be coming back to this great urban dirt jump event. Heavyweights like Sam Pilgrim (2012 winner), Sam Reynolds (2012 runner up) and Andreu Lacondeguy (2012 third place) will not miss this chance to fight for gold and win precious FMB World Tour 2013 points. Also, strong contenders like Martin Soderstrom and Frenchman Antoine Bizet will be competing for the title. In 2012, Antoine won the Panasonic Best Trick Contest, this year he will be eager to stand on the top spot of the podium. The highlights from last year’s VIENNA AIR KING
VIENNA AIR KING is not all about the Pro’s: Besides the well-known riders, rookies will also get the chance to shine. The application period for the prequalifying runs until 28.02.2013. The application should be sent to
viennaairking@rasoulution.com and includes the following: a short video clip (including the latest tricks), a brief description of the applying rider (including age and origin), the best previous contest results, any bicycle and components sponsors as well as pictures (a portrait is mandatory, additional action shots are welcome). Since there is only a limited capacity of starting places, the organizer reserves the right to select the starting positions in the prequalification.
In addition to the long-standing partners, Panasonic and Raiffeisenbank, this year THE German manufacturer for safety engineering ABUS and the online bike shop Bikester are supporting the event. The decision to endorse VIENNA AIR KING was not a difficult one for them to make: a breathtaking contest in the heart of Vienna, surrounded by a stunning setting and a meeting point for Austrian bikers – perfect! The two partners are already looking forward to the event and to the festival guests.
