So it was late on friday night and a few of us were thinking that
Sun Peaks for a day trip would be killer. Quick check on the net and sure enough they were hosting
Norco's VPS Fest on Canada Day!! Sounds like reason enough to see what's been happening up there this spring, do some riding and check out what VPS fest is all about.
Mikey G, Pauwels and I loaded up Saturday morning for a rip at the Peaks and to see why VPS Fest keeps growing year after year. Once we rolled in to Sun Peaks, the Canada Day celebrations were well under way. There was a running relay going on, the local fire department had their trucks on display and there was a lot of things for younger kids to do as well.
The folks at Norco were busy handing out lift passes, fixing flats and enjoying the very sunny weather. I had the opportunity to meet up with Jay Hoots and Jeremy Currie-winner of the Ride in Style contest-while we waited in line for our first run. Jeremy was so stoked to be rocking his new kit which started at his new Mace Paak9 Lid, Norco Jersey, Mace shorts and the schwag list goes on!! All the fancy gear was his to keep and to top it off, he got hooked up with a Norco Team DH to use for the day!! All this for being a Norco owner and registering for a free day of riding-WOW!!
In between runs, we checked out a few of the new bikes that Norco had on display.
All day we had a great time riding all the trails up on the mountain. From the nice casual Gummy Bear to pinning down Steam Shovel, the trails were in great shape. You can't do much to control the dust on a hot summer day, so just spread out between riders. We had a nice guided tour from our good buddy Jordan Petrovics too. It's good to have a local to shred with when riding any new areas.
At the end of the riding day, Norco had all the registered riders gather around for a big old prize give away. With Jay Hoots on the mic, it was entertaining as usual. Riders had a chance to win more than more than $5000 in prizes, including a Grand Prize of a 2006 Team DH frameset worth over $2300. They also gave away a 2006 Marzocchi 66 fork, an Alex Supra D wheelset lots of tires and various pieces of schwag.
In the end a lot of satisfied riders went home with some cool gear, and great stories from the day of riding. Events like VPS Fest are great ways to see how companies are giving back to the riding community.
