Rachel getting some last minute advice. It looks like it worked just fine as she qualified first by almost 2 seconds over Emmy.
You could feel the ground shaking as Brook MacDonald rode by, he qualified 3rd today
Gwin was on fire as usual, second at split one, first at the second split, but then he went down in the last corner, just before the ski jumps. Word is that he's injured but it's minor, and he'll probably be able to race on Sunday
Gwin proving again that he is human, if only for a split second.
Cameron Cole won the qualifying round by 0.096. Less then half of a second between him and Gee in fourth! Throw in a few other fast riders such as Stevie and Sam that flatted, as well as Gwin that crashed, and Sunday could be an interesting race.
New race kits and bike paint jobs for the Scott11 team! Emilie Siegenthaler, 3rd place in front of her team mate Floriane Pugin. (no more flying bananas...)
Josh Bryceland in second took home 40 points! Fastest at first split, but then lost something in the middle section.
Cyrille Kurtz finished in 10th place and was the surprise of the day (or maybe not...). There were five French riders finishing in top eleven!
Sam Hill and Steve Smith both flatted in qualifying. This is Sam making into 75th spot, Steve wasn't quite so quick, finishing in 188th today. Luckily he's a protected rider and still gets to compete on Sunday.
The massive thunderstorm that stopped the race for quite a while. Between rain and lightning the course hold seemed to last forever...
Greg Minnaar diminished the gap between himself and Gwin by 20 points. But that's not much. Gwin can still take the overall on Sunday if he puts in a good run.
Steve Peat: Old-school off camber track for an old-school rider!
Tracy Hannah a few short moments before she went over the bars and hitting the ground at a very high speed. The training session was stopped for quite some time while she was attended to and airlifted to the hospital with a broken femur. She's having surgery this morning, leave your healing thoughts in the comments!
Tahnee Seagrave was the fastest of the junior women, finishing up in 10th spot today.
Loic Bruni is still a junior but the young Lapierre rider is ready to challenge the big guys. 8th fastest today in qualifying and only 4.5 seconds off of Cam Cole's time.
my buddy just broke his femur in half. had surgery the next day and was able to put full pressure on it the day after. sports edition titanium rod with 2 little incisions. pretty cool how technology works. hopefully tracys surgery will go just as well if not better.
by all means your right. he's not walking on it due to the pain and swelling of his leg but he can put full pressure on it. i just said he can put full pressure on it. doctor told him that before he left the hospital as well. im assuming "bollocks" means "bullshit"? i thought the same too but again im not a doctor. check it out, you might be as surprised as i was.
Get well soon Tracey, your such a great rider and a really down to earth person, the track walk feature you did for red bull was great. Hopefully you'll make a full recovery and get back to what you love doing soon
i broke my femur and patella in march this year, not a fun thing to do, can feel for what you will have to go through to get back on the bike tracy! best of luck and hope you have no complications! hope to see you shredding again in 4 months or so!
dayum. A friend of mine broke his femur back in november last year. He only got back on the bike around may this year, and he's still having trouble with it. It's such a shit bone to break. Hope you heal up soon though mate, and tracey too (she was on my fantasy team for this weekend though haha, looks like i'm not gonna be winning).
i have managed a few downhill spins and a dirt jump or two recently, been pretty lucky with my recovery time really! femur itself is sweet, knee still gives me trouble all the time though, just got to keep up the conditioning and fitness training so i will hopefully be able to start racing again in october!
I love the fact that gwin isnt milking his injury and passing it off as minor, crashing out in practice and qualifying, and will still proberbly win lol. Although i really hope to see a change on the podium and see sam hill win.
quick healing and hope to see u back soon...one of the reasons i watch the girls aside from the fact that dh ladys are hot is to watch u man handle the tracks. also sammy i wana see this guy come back withat fast and loose style that change the whole game and put this sport to were it is today....
I saw an article about the UCI restricting access to the media on part of the course. Why are they doing that? is this another stupid rule from the UCI?
Regardless, healing vibes. The femur is probably one of the worst bones to break.
Cheers from México
