Nigel Reeve makes last minute back number adjustments for Sender Steve.

... and then Stevie goes to work.

Remi Therion just before the deluge and hail hit the top of the track. 37 men made it down the track before everything came to a grinding halt.

photo

What happens after a big rain delay and a lift that kept being shut down for lightning? You get a line up of mechanics looking to download.

photo

Ropo was one of the first riders back on track after racing resumed and a light rain fell. He is sitting comfortably in 13th place going into Sunday.

photo

Ivan Oulego Moreno, the Spanich Pinner is still pinning it.

photo

Gee gets qualifying morning off to a roaring start. There was about 5 rain drops and then the sun came out. The rain picked up just in time for qualis though...

photo

This hip has to be the most shot jump this season, and that includes the MSA hip by the gondola. Such epic views!

photo

Emmeline Ragot barely keeps it together in the dust on the upper off camber section. This is just how narrow it is.

photo

photo

Steve Peat pedals out of the famous Val D'Isere rock switchbacks. If you watch ski racing, you'll recognize these cliff bands.

photo

Bryn on the other hand, had not such a great day. He was surrounded by a cloud of dust on multiple occasions this morning. No doubt he will get it together for Sunday though.

photo

Brook shows everyone how it's done when you carry this much speed on track. 3rd on the day and looking strong for finals.

 ropadope!!!!! is kickn $SS
  • 11 0
Amazing how quickly that Mitch has gotten up to WC speed. Steep learning curve for the kid!! He has proved that he deserves where he is...and he deserves to stay there. HUGE accomplishment...especially coming in mid season, as a replacement!!
  • 3 0
Thats the Racer Warm up bike .... gives the racers the same relative arm position as on their race bike during warm up
  • 1 0
I thought he was only filling in for two races.
  • 4 0
I guess they liked him enough to keep him around for the next few races... Even hooked him up with the carbon Demo!
  • 2 0
 What happened to Gwin?
  • 4 0
Crashed out but still racing finals. Hope Mullaly and Hills times improve. And this blurry foreground shit has to stop, looks like someones slammed mashed potatoes on his lense
  • 2 3
It's crazy Gwin can fall off his bike, tumble head over hills, gather his bike and proceed to beat the fastest women in the world by 6 seconds
  • 1 0
nmorris: Those are 780mm renthals and they are on Sam HIll's trainer. It's a fixie, specialized langster.

Reports that gwin broke his humerus!
  • 2 2
^ I heard the same! This is terrible! Frown
  • 2 1
No f*cking way, I was having a bad feeling the past two weeks he'd smash himself. Hope no one goes for the obvious pun here Frown
  • 2 0
Sick Ratboy in 2nd! Also rad for Cam and Brook!
  • 4 1
Yeah, I'm gutted for him! He's my favorite rider too!
  • 2 1
Wow, I just checked and its true... Absolutely gutted for him.
  • 1 0
can someone post the url to where they are seeing this. I've checked dirt vital and don't see it wtf
  • 1 0
 He crashed last corner
  • 16 6
Let me just help you out KennyKIllsIt...He's Gwinjured!!! Gwinjury strikes the Gwinner.
  • 5 0
How do you get a finish time with a broken humerus? On vital people are saying he just got stitches
  • 2 0
He crashed on the last corner apparently. He must of just sucked it up and got through the finish with it.
  • 2 2
Broken humerus......not sure you can suck that up
  • 3 2
Agahah i love gwin but gwinjured had me on my ass, ive never seen anyone with a name that rhymes with so many relevant things
  • 1 0
No idea what is really going on.... but there are different degrees of broken bones. A rider could certainly hop up and get back on and finish out the very bottom of the course with what ends up being a broken arm.
  • 2 1
I'm saying Gwin is in it. Otherwise getting down with 13 sec off 1st with a broken arm means the rest of his run would be an indication that trek has developed a working warp drive....
  • 4 1
he did not broke his humerus, just 5 stitches in his hand Wink
  • 3 0
We're probs just gonna see him sitting in the hot seat nocking back ice tea or what have you

flag Gervase (Jul 27, 2012 at 16:06) (Below Threshold)
 Gwinjured!!! Baaahahahahahah ha ha LMAO
No disrespect to the Gwin fans out there but thats just hilarious Smile
  • 3 2
To Gervase, how do you find crashing as part of this sport hilarious. You obviously not a rider!.......I was right. I just looked at your profile.
  • 2 1
Gervase, you are a complee moron. How is that hilarious? THis is a vicious sport sometimes and it is never funny to see someone get injured.
  • 1 1
@ flyingryan and samsemtex relax guys!
I was NOT implying that Gwin getting injured is hilarious although i can see how my comment may have been taken in that context.
I just find the word play quite funny, how his name seems to rhyme with just about everything!
And to say i'm not a rider could not be more wrong,i live in Whistler!
I do wish Gwin all the best and am looking forward to seeing him shred on Sunday.
  • 1 0
I did think about that possibility after i replied to you. Sorry bud, but as you said you can see how it could be taken wrong.

Nasty crash that. The front tucked at the worst possible time and place!
  • 4 0
nasty crash! stitched up, numb the hand, and race! being so close to sealing the overall, Im betting he'll go for it full throttle still. and if he does, we get to really see what hes made of.
  • 1 0
Props to Gwin for getting up after that. That was pretty fucking nasty.
  • 8 3
Gwin out... gutted, but he has been pushing the boundaries of grip and lines on the safer new school tracks for some time. Old school tracks that go down goat tracks on mountains will bite you hard! Old school is better than 50ft tables IMO.
  • 8 0
Gwin just posted on Twitter that he tore up his hand but is ready to give it hell on Sunday. Thank god!
  • 5 2
 Hell Gwining yea!!

Congrats to Kyle Sangers and Matt Beer! Run some sturdy tubes for your race Stevie.
  • 3 0
Gwin can still race in the Finals because of his overall standing though, right? Or am i wrong?
  • 1 0
yes, he should be a "protected" rider
  • 2 0
All top 20 riders are protected, they dont even have to qualify if they dont want to.
  • 1 0
Will he continue to race Sunday, or is the injury bad enough where he won't race?
  • 3 2
Amateur hour here.....but is there any benefit to qualifying in the top tier? You get to race later, I believe? But is that it?
  • 3 0
It lets the riders see how far they have to push it but also if your not protected you have to qualify hence the name "Qualification"
  • 4 0
There are also points involved with quali runs. If gwin qualified fastest today I believe he could have taken the overall title
  • 2 4
Yeah but didnt gwin break his arm?
  • 3 0
If you wanna win the over all then you really wanna win qualis , look at gee and minnars battle of 2010 .
  • 1 0
Thanks....I understand the non-protected having to qualify to win, was more interested if there was a befit of being in the top tier besides getting to race later (totally a benefit, i know, just wasn't sure if that was the only one). Was not aware that points were involved with qualis as well, interesting....thanks for the info!
  • 2 0
the points used to be awarded for finals only. so the top guys would play tactics if the weather was due to roll in on finals day. they'd hold back to put in a time good enough to qualify, but try and get down the hill on sunday before the weather came in. so they moved the qualifying forward a day and introduced the points to keep things competative
  • 2 0
Tracy hannah went down in practice and broke femur and clavicle. She is done for the season.
  • 3 0
No!! Holy crap! Poor Tracy!! that sucks!! and where is Mick?????
  • 1 0
The Hutchinson United rider Tracey Hannah crashed heavily in this morning’s practice. "This World Cup track is crazy... I like it!," she said on her Facebook page yesterday. Apparently she fractured her femur and shoulder and she is currently in a hospital.

  • 1 0
Just like he did before - Gwin will be in the hot seat for a long, long time after he comes down - Will he make it to the end??
  • 1 0
did the weather effect the later riders, splits from greg williamson and fergus lamb seem consistenly bad suggesting no crashes
  • 2 2
can someone explain how and what qualifiers actually do? do they give any points for the overall? how many people move on to finals?
  • 1 0
Yes there are points for qualifiers, fastest rider obviously gets most points so it is in there best interest to be fastest. As regard numbers,i believe its the top 80 get through.dont quote me on that one though.
  • 1 0
Looks like all the top guys not doing so well on the new track. Interesting...
  • 3 0
I wonder if some of them are gambling on bad weather and opted to start earlier in finals...much like Lehikonen did in Champery several years ago.
  • 1 0
Good point.. I was thinking about that earlier... such a steep track. absolutely F'd if it rains.
  • 3 0
 where is everyone ??

I am curious what Gwin's splits were before the crash....

vital says he just needed 5 stitches. Who gets across the finish line with a broken arm man?
  • 1 2
Dude you would be surprised what people do under adrenaline , I roller bladed home over 2 miles with a foot that was no longer attched to my foot by bone.
  • 2 1
A food no longer attached to your foot? Pretty sure its a good thing when your feed aren't bound together....
  • 2 0
Was ment to put : ankle instead of foot the 2nd time , but nice attempt at being funny anyway Smile
Are you hungry ? you mention food and feed , go make some thing to eat dude.

Gwin actually broke his Humerus. Check vital mtb for more info...
  • 8 1
Uh what I read on Vital MTB is this.
"What we're hearing is that Gwin had a big crash. He ended up with 5 stitches in his hand and qualified 57th."
Not seeing anything about a broken anything.
  • 3 3
I just watched the crash video. He got up and rode out. Stitches in the hand are confimed...nothing about a broken leg. Don't think he would've rode out like he did if his leg was broken
  • 5 0
bman, your humerus is in your arm
  • 1 0
Ha!!! ooops...must have been thinking about Tracey Hannah breaking her leg.
  • 6 5
