Clip: Zink 60 foot Canyon Gap Crash

Oct 8, 2012
by Scott Secco
We'll say it, Cam Zink is the toughest mofo in biking. After this crash, he was considering riding Rampage finals the next day.

It was a huge relief to see him make it onto his feet and limp away. He is a strong willed battler and we hope he can compete Sunday.

Great to see Cam walk away from this.

Cam Zink came off the ramp wrong. The result of his crash was due to his huge balls dragging behind him on the takeoff. Dude is freaking gnarly. So bummed didnt get to watch him ride finals but SO stoked he is ok! Looking forward to next rampage. HEAL UP FAST ZINK!!

I can't even comprehend how big his balls must be.
  • 2 4
"How can he sit down with balls that big?"
  • 3 0
I would love to see the Mike Hopkins too...these two guys I think had the worse crashes this year....and amazingly, both walked away with bruises and scratches only... PROPS to these guys, holy crap they are made of different wood....

Question: What's bigger than Zink's swollen ankles?

Answer: His balls.

Can't believe he got up from that

I'd be in the hospital for months, and I'm decently tough... Oh wait, no... I'd never in a MILLION YEARS attempt that. He's my favorite freerider for a reason!

Eek That was the best tuck and roll I've ever seen. To get up from that is just super human. Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery!

Impressed by the response of the boxer dog too Smile

If I see all these Football Guys after a Foul...watch this...Zink got the Balls !!!
  • 10 11
and exactly where were the medics? femurs can snap like twigs, femoral bleeding, life or death in just 60 seconds. no medics on a high risk landing zone like that? nobody in that clip looked like they had half of a f*ck of a clue what to do with the guy.

what no medics...really, even for practice sessions? maybe Red Bull should invest in better rider support and event safety and have a bit more respect for these guys who risk so much for your couple hours of free online HD entertainment after which you get bored and go eat Cheetos in the basement playing PS3 and cook up a bong. how long before someone is crippled for life, with no health insurance and many $100,000's in medical bills, yet all this possibly avoidable by better event safety and better infrastructure.

yeah rad crash bro, super rowdy radical gnar tits

hate away, y'all so hardcore..........keep drinking the Red Bull kool aid, kids
  • 15 1
Look at the picture. The two guys with "Fire" on their shirts are the medics. EMT = Emergency Medical Technician.

Now watch the video, one hops on the radio while the other checks down his vertebrae.
  • 3 6
complete and utter fail. who's taking his helmet off? who's got c-spine control and who's ensuring a safe posture?
  • 4 1
you think that Zink and other riders do that for us? you must be stupid Big Grin , at first, they do that becouse they love it, break the limits...
  • 3 1
gnarbar, don't you see the 2 medics there, one with a big emergency supply bag, and the other putting him in a recovery position? He started on his hands and knees in his own strength holding his own head up, then got helped into a recovery position. You got to see 5 seconds after the crash and you think you know how the response was handled? Rant away if it makes you feel good, but the reality is you don't know what went on at all.
  • 3 1
The first guy to reach Zink, within five seconds of him coming to a stop, wearing blue... that's the medic. Maybe you're the one who needs to take a break from the bong hits
  • 2 1
 nzstormer....a few observations:

- one guy "ambles" towards the patient like it's NBD
- randoms are all over the place crowding things and nobody gets them out of the way
- there's no c-spine control
- no helmet removal process
- recovery position isn't suitable for a crash like that

but hey whatever....oftentimes people who've broken their neck in the C's don't even know it's happened and the wrong movement of just 1/2" is all it takes for more severe and permanent damage. even if the patient says they're all good bro and things are cool it should never be taken for granted or accepted, and doing nothing is just as bad as doing the wrong thing in a situation like that

my apologies for actually giving a shit about rider safety
  • 2 1
 It's not that you're "giving a shit", it's that you're incorrect.

C-spine would have been helpful, as a medic I would have wanted to do that immediately. What you're forgetting is patient consent though, if the patient refuses it, you can't force it on them. If he says "I'm fine, I don't want it" you advise, but you can't force it.

As for "ambling", no medic sprints at a call, it doesn't save any significant time and it's a safety risk. He responded plenty fast enough
  • 2 0
very good point Twitcho re. consent, and it's hard to judge without knowing all the facts but it just looks like a total shit show to me and could go downhill fast in so many ways it's scary
  • 1 0
gnarbar, I sincerely hope that if you have a really nasty fall, no one takes your helmet off with anything other than a dremel.
  • 2 0
myothercarsa2cv - I sincerely hope you never need medical aid after a crash, you nasty little cave dwelling creature
  • 1 0
What's trolling about that? Taking a helmet off someone with possible spinal injuries will do more harm than good. I don't see how that's a "complete and utter fail" at all...? For the same reason you cut someone's trousers off with scissors if they have a broken leg, you'd use a dremel to remove a helmet. Not sure if medics would have them in their bag.
Sorry if I caused offence...
  • 1 0
Nah dude. We take the helmet off because you can't get a cervical collar on the patient a d you can't immobilize them on a backboard with a helmet. If you take the helmet off carefully while another person reaches in and stabilizes c spine it's not that dangerous, and it's a lot safer than transporting someone to hospital with a neck injury that isn't secured

Lesser men haven't walked away from situations less then this. Zink must be the illigitimate child of chuck norris
  • 1 0
Mad props to Zink. Dude went huge, dropped in like he wanted that big ass fake check with all those zeros on it, and sh*t just got a bit too real..
  • 1 0
not Zink's day i think without this incident Zink would be a good competitor for other riders.

  • 2 0
Thank god he bailed, i can't even imagine nasty rollercoaster would have happened if he didn't
  • 1 0
+ Judging by where he landed, it looks like he overshot the transition by a fair bit
  • 1 0
Yup.. looks like he started to rainbow and was going to overshoot the landing... bad combination. Could've been so much worse though.
