Wade's Excellent Adventure & The Battle For The Fromme Cup

Jun 5, 2012
by Margus Riga
The North Shore of BC is a happier place once again, and we have Wade's Excellent Adventure to thank for it. Riders came of all makes and sizes, from parts far and near to duke it out for the Fromme Cup. With proceeds going to the trails, and good times going to everyone, it was a win win event.

What a day it was. Thunder clouds cackled with lightning, and fog was everywhere...and it was only nine in the morning.

MC Tippster. Works better than any coffee.

The Mountain Hwy shuttle drop zone.

JJ and Chromag supplied the music, while NSMBA supplied the forms.

  Welcome to Wade's world.

  ?

  WEA is internationally recognized.

The Shore boys vs the Whistler boys...always a big deal at WEA.

Wade and Tippie explained the four stage format to the racer teams, and it was time to start the race.

The first stage had everyone start one-at-a-time from the parking lot, and had them ride a short loop around the bottom of the mountain and back to the start. Each team member was timed.

  First racer! Go go go!

Second, third, fourth, fifth...go go go!

Joe Shwartz and Seb Kemp's stand-in.

  Part of the Whistler contingency.

Andrew Shandro wants his name on the Fromme Cup.

Just for fun, at the end of the first stage there was a mini hill climb...to warm you up for stage three.

With stage one complete. Everyone climbed up to the fifth switchback of Mt. Fromme.

Vanderham and Shandro...arriving fresh and clean for stage two.

  Getting ready for stage two.

Stage two was a straight up team-timed run accross the mountain and down to the third switchback. Then riders had to make their way back up to the fourth switchback for stage three.

After riding down Creak-'em-krank-'em and Roadside, it was back up for the optional stage three chug-n-climb.

Riders had to chug a beer and then were timed on how long it would take them to climb the Old Warden's Trail (a nasty little bugger of a climb).

And just in case you forgot to hammer, Tippie was there to remind you.

  Stage three finish line action.

All the beer cans were eaten.

For stage four, riders had to make their way up to the sixth switchback and choose one of two trail options. Apparently both take just as long.

Option one proved to be the slightly faster option on this typical spring Shore day.

  Option two...the more scenic route.

Just in case you forgot to hammer.

After all stages were completed, it was time for the shwag toss...that lasted for an hour.

And the winner of the Fromme Cup for 2012 is...

Margus.. All of your pics are super sick. But i think you should let other people get the chance for a POD. Haha And i never thought any cup finals are won that easily, according to that last photo.

I like the steel hardtails in the photos - proves that HTs can handle pretty technical stuff Smile

These are almost all Chromags too - that crew rides hard and their bikes take it.
