I once entered a bike shop asking about some tools to repack the BB for my singlespeed and the guy then asked me if it was for a fixie......needless to say I dont go there anymore
  • 54 8
 two wheels is two wheels.....
  • 25 3
needless to say hipster or not, they're bikes were making some fucked up noises. I don't like 'em

Get on his level, I don't care what you say there's almost no chance you could ride that bike the way he could.

I know, but it is still gay. Riding a unicycle is hard, that doesn't change the fact that it is gay. Same logic applies here.
  • 12 1
I think being a hipster it`s more about what they say/do and not what they ride.
The crappier the bike is the more skill you need to toss it around. Right?
And for those who aren`t sure about theirselves or someone else being a hipster here is a free tutorial:
  • 6 1
Probably the most accurate description of a hipster, gotta love Bondi:
  • 8 4
You should try riding a fixie once. It may change your mind.
  • 8 2
I used to raced track, not exactly feeling tge urge to put flat bars on it and ride like a tard tho
  • 10 2
Im about as open minded as they come, I ride many disciplines.........and I have to say. I don't care for this. It looks so akward. Freewheels make the speed and fluidity of bmx possible. Im not hating, to each their own, and all the power to this guy because he is having fun on a bike, but I don't like watching it. And I don't say that very much.
  • 6 4
This kids think they're so though cuz they dont like fixies and call those who like fixies hipsters....mate, no body gives a fuck if they're hipster. Stop bitching and get a life, jeez!
  • 2 3

Watch out Lester... you'll probably receive such comments as "i don't know, I don't pay attention to the hipster sh!t!" or "I wouldn't know I'm not a fagg0t."
  • 62 7
It's good because he's on a fixie but other than that it's crap. It's like if he had one hand tied behind his back and was an okayish boxer, you'd be saying, 'well what's he like with both hands free?'.

This just made my transition over to TransworldSnow much easier.. I'm not here to say that was easy, I bet it is hard to do that on a fixie, but I still don't like this video at all. Get a BMX..
  • 13 9
so many haters, he probably rides more than just a fixie.
  • 9 7
why would anybody be against transcending the sport? who cares which discipline anybody chooses, its the individuals choice.

its super fun, BikE made a Dual Sus recumbent called a FatE. they had buttons that asked "have u rolled a FatE today"
My buddy had one that was 24"20" wheeler...
  • 32 5
What's the point in doing this with a fixie?? He would be soo much better with a bmx... just saying....
  • 28 4
no need to defend yourself with the "just saying" part.. lmao, we all agree with you!
  • 4 0
it's not about doing it better or worse, it's about having fun on his bike.

For example, why in the world would anybody do trials? You can do everything better without a bike, just call it parkour.
You sound a lot like this guy:
  • 1 0
^False, trials is not more useless than parkour. In some respects yes it is, but not always. For example I can actually bunnyhop higher than I can jump, and go faster on my bike than I can run (allowing me to chain together tricks that would be impossible on my feet).
  • 2 0
Why do you climb walls? Just take elevators.
  • 2 0
I'm a trials rider myself... I was just saying sometimes the best way to do something is not the point. I can jump higher and longer than I can bunnyhop or pedalkick, but I go out everyday to do bunnys, pedalkick and sidehops, etc. even thought I would do it better without a bike.
It's all about having fun on two wheels, no matter the size, the suspension travel (or lack of it) or the number of gears.
  • 1 0
Yeah I wasn't against the 'fixie' riding by itself. The riding was better than I could ever do on a road bike. What I didn't like was the whole throwing the bike, shouting in the city, grinding on public property, and other hipster lifestyle that goes with the fixie riding.
  • 21 0
Recumbent dh is way cooler than fixie freestyle.
  • 2 0
 plus 100.
  • 22 3
I have nothing nice to say....
  • 3 0
Good, because you'll probably sound like the majority of people on here.
  • 2 0
Wow.. i'm reading through this whole thread amc1212.. and i can see that you're really butthurt about this whole 'ripping on fixies' thing.. relax dude.. don't take it so seriously
  • 14 1

Next week PB is going to post an article entitled "Road Biking is a Better Sport than Downhill", just to see if they can break the internet.
  • 23 13
You kids are such little brats...I bet if "Insert Famous BMX Rider" started riding fixies and made an edit, half of you guys would all be like "OMGGGGGG ITS SOOO COOOL I WANT TO BUY ONE NOW"... Some people like doing new things because they are FUN and a NEW experience... not because they are a hipster... I guarantee most of you like doing new things too
  • 8 1
Haha, absolutely agree! And I love the OMGGGGG part of your example btw Smile
  • 5 0
 Yah bro!
  • 4 5
No, I would buy a Fixie if the riding appealed to me. It doesn't.
If I were to allow edits like this to impact my financial choices, I'd be a moron.
Akigg's edits didn't make me buy one, this surely won't...

And I despise the clothing movement and attitude surrounding most of the "hipsters" (not qualifying this guy as one, but anyway), so that only detracts.

Nice moves, but style in nonexistent.

And of course I can't ride like this. That doesn't prevent me from seeing a turd as a turd when you pull it from the microwave.
  • 1 2
iansmith4, you couldnt be further from the truth. I, and most of the other dudes here on pinkbike, am definitely not a little brat, and if my own mother started riding fixies I would disown here. And who you calling kid? Your 20...
  • 3 0
My bad, I just assumed that people QQing were all kids because of how immature/close minded they were being.
  • 2 0
insert "famous bmx rider" arent hipsters though....
  • 15 4
Will someone please explain to me WHY PEOPLE RIDE FIXIES?
  • 11 10
Ride one believe me it wont hurt your bike handling skills. I have noticed a big difference in my trail riding after having a fixie for a bit and playing around with it.
  • 8 8
Because they're a lot of fun on the street and improve your riding skills. Instead of flowing around on a dirt trail, you learn how to flow around on concrete. It definitely makes a big difference in how you perceive your relationship with the bike. its also super fun when you get really good at riding brakeless and have a lot of confidence because you can just mob through anything and whip skid around idiots who don't know how to ride bikes.
  • 4 1
because they spend a lot of time in the velodrome, duh... and riding fixed improves your pedal stroke so you can get a little extra wattage to CRUSH FOOLS IN ROAD RACES!
  • 1 1
roadies ride them to to get in shape. it forces you to peddle there for your getting in shape. and its kinda fun. and like he said^^^^^^^ it helps with handling. just dont like riding fixxed with out brakes. and its bad for your knees stopping by back peddling.
  • 2 0
however fakie-double-peg-to-stair-case's are great for your knees...
  • 2 0
track riders generally don't do that well in road races, get a 100m sprinter to run a marathon, same concept but track riders are at an even higher disadvantage as the added bulk kills their climbing
  • 4 1
I ride a fixed gear around town because its more fun than any other sort of commuter. Also gets me in shape without me trying, and alley cat races are mad fun. Fixie freestyle stuff is kinda fun to try in the parking lot after a couple of beers, but its like snowskates or razor scooters, not matter how good you get you still look like an idiot
  • 3 2
Try it, if you get the chance: it is an interesting sensation to be so locked in to your bike. I think one can learn about the sensibilities of pedalling, cadence, etc.
  • 3 2
um yeah. maintenance is a joke. i commute every day and i lube my chain once a month and replace my tires every 3 years. thats all, maybe true my wheels every couple of years. no brakes to bleed, derailers to tune, brake pads to replace, forks to rebuild.
  • 1 0
none of those things take very long except maybe a fork rebuild which doesnt apply seeing as you dont ride a commuter/bmx with suspension either
  • 12 1
1:49, he's filming down stairs....... ON FREAKING ROLLER BLADES....
  • 1 2
And....? What in the flying f u c k does that have to with anything about his riding?
  • 14 3
Why was this on Pink Bike?
  • 3 4
the fakie double peg at the end was pretty dope...
  • 2 1
  • 2 1
Probably, because it's called pinkBIKE. Not, Pinkbutthurtfaggotcomplainsallthetimebike.
  • 2 0
 That escalated quickly.
  • 13 7
When Chris Akrigg does it, everyone says how sick he is.Or Martyn Ashton riding park and trials on a fucking road bike, all you fools were sucking nuts! I don't understand ! I don't even know the differnce between a BMXer and a Hipster, they dress the same, just different bikes! Keep riding and having fun ........... The type of bike shouldn't and doesn't matter !
  • 4 1
The difference between Akkers and this guy is that Akkers was actually doing some pretty rad stuff and more importantly doing it with a great style. I don't want to hate on this guy too much but grinds in general are just horrible to watch and he wasn't even doing them all that well (hooking up wheels on the bottom steps). The other things he did wouldn't be all that hard either.

So yeah, credit to him for doing what he likes, but I think he has a lot of room to improve both riding wise and style wise.
  • 6 1
Don't ever compare Ashton to this tool. Ashton's a legend.
  • 1 0
The comparison is about the style of riding, not the person. Of course Ashton is at a whole nother level. That's not the point i was making. I was simply stating how people are so hypocritical and hateful. We should all promote riding in all forms!
  • 10 4
I'm not impressed. Just another show off with a camera doing damage to public property. Any idiot can slide around on his peg and scrape up walls and hand rails. Not rad, not technical, just stupid.
  • 2 2
I'm sure the first thing you think about is, "Boy, am I damaging public property?" when you start going at it with a shovel...
  • 6 1
I thaouht this was a goup for all bikers not only for a special kind.
I dont get why are you being so RACIST against a biker.
Dont we all want just have some fun with our 2 wheels?

Good work Lino nice Edit and keep it coming bro!!
  • 7 2
I thought it would be bad....and then it was worse. For the love of god, get a freewheel. And wheels that weren't born in a velodrome. Jackass..
  • 8 3
Who gives a shit what kind of bike he chooses to ride?

I thought the community here was better than that and would be able to appreciate his skill on a bike for what it is.
  • 5 3
Fixies came about as ultralightweight bikes for messengers. Impossiblly light bikes for folks who ride all day and night through city traffic. Without tragic hills. The cats who roll through stoplights and crosswalks are those who are riding in the wrong environment. Cruising/shredding is for trail only. That said; shred with brakes please.
  • 1 1
 Nah, this "community" is horseshit.
  • 9 3

  • 3 1
for me biking is something elegant and to be fun / impressive needs to have a good flow on it.

biking like this looks horrible to me ... something like flyfishing with a 5 meter long iron pole.

i have a somewhat strong skateboard background and i know it can look sooooooooo nice when well done.. same goes for biking, but those clumsy 180 turns make it look so horrible it hurts my soul.

but thats me and how i see the sport.. the great thing is that there is something for everyone Smile
  • 7 4
It's like BMX, or street mtb but with a fixed pinion, wich is lame as their movement are slower due to the fact they have no freewheel... Doing the same, but worse...
  • 11 6
Holy s**t that was lame. FU hipsters.

The comments on Pinkbike make me laugh so hard.

This place is full of real hipsters, with freeride/downhill/dirt bikes who hate everything that's different from their own little world.

Grow up, sometimes it's not about the bike with the best performance, it's only about fun. So insted of being a hater, grab your bike and have fun...
  • 2 1
that fakie peg was pretty cool except he landed like two steps up haha. I would rather watch an edit from even the laziest BMX dude instead of this honestly, everything looks so forced and awkward and creativity is super limited when riding such a ridiculous bicycle, hell an 8 year old kid that races BMX could probably put out a more interesting street edit.
  • 1 1
totally agree with you. You may have all ready seen it, but here's some street style for you if you havnt
  • 1 0
Nice!! Takes skills to ride fixed Gear. I ride road bikes, beach cruisers, and I spend most my time commuting on my fixed gear bike cause I like it. I am by no means a hipster and think the whole hipster thing gave fix gear riding a bad image on most people. But on the other hand I mob DH, road bike, fixie, and even on my Beach cruiser lol. Fixed gear riding is harder than mountain biking period. It doesn't take skill to DH. Dirtjumping is a different story.
  • 1 0
Not sure what to say here. I disregard fixe as much as everyone else. But... I follow this website for inspiration. When I see someone killing it on 2 wheels I am psyched. In this case I seem to be against popular opinion in saying this was a damn cool vid. It's different. But hell the guy is doing some cool Shiz! Tyler, If you are following this don't be dissuaded. What you did is different but still cool in my book.

Yes, nice edit, but that's not anyone's point...
  • 3 2
Mr. togood2die, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
  • 2 0

Oh, and by the way, people "read" it, not "listened", just to clarify.

  • 3 1
Meh, not into it. I rarely hack on other types of riding. But something about fixies and hipster's just rub me the wrong way. Chill edit though.
  • 2 2
A fixed-gear bicycle (or fixed-wheel bicycle, popularly known as a fixie) is a bicycle that has a drivetrain with NO freewheel mechanism, but in this vid it seems like the bikes can freewheel. So I say these are not fixes but single speeds!
  • 2 0
I have no non-sarcastic response to the first part of this statement.. so I'll leave it.

To clear up the confusion, it is fixed... the entire time.

A free-wheel equipped fixie is commonly referred to as a "stucky". For further info, feel free to visit the following informational shitshow
