Most people hopped this new rock drop to the backside, especially first run. The bulldog decided to huck it. Houston, come in Houston...
photo
First time in awhile riders have dealt with bone dry corners and loose gravel. It's gonna be a good weekend if this keeps up!
photo
Sabrina Jonnier makes her way down the steep left hander that Windham is famous for. Everyone else shot the massive ruts at the bottom, so I decided to give it a slightly different look.
photo
Comin' in hot. Cedric flat tracks his way through a left hand corner. The old man is pushing hard to move into the top 10 this week.
photo
Yep, we're on the east coast. Rocks and roots and deep woods...
photo
Danny Hart hucks the new rock garden mid course. There's a natural spring in here and it's getting everyone's bright clean kit covered in mud. Bother.
photo
The many natural springs on the mountain are causing massive mud holes in areas. This berm has seen better days, the ruts were so deep they were catching pedals by top 80 practice.

Aaron Gwin. On it.

Emilie Sigenthaler through the lower rock garden while grandma the course marshall looks on.

Adam Brayton likes to huck things, here he finds the rock garden line with the biggest jump he could find.

Peaty fastest through the speed trap and only a couple seconds behind Gwin. As much as I want Gwin to keep up his streak, and have him win on home soil, I would go on a one man riot through my town if Peaty got a win.

im hoping he can pull out what he did last year minus the stack on his plunge
  • 1 0
yeah, i'd love to see peaty pull something out of the bag on this one, he's not been doing too well on the last few races...
  • 1 0
yer but how fast is hart going to be when he grows up? cant see much compotition for him when time goes on
  • 1 0
aye, he's a real pinner, though to be honest, peaty's doing well just to still be in the competition at his age, let alone still getting on the podium!

Ya this is going to be a nail biter on sunday. Neethling had a very good second half time. He cleans up the top a bit and Gwin may be in trouble. Gwin always pulls out the mega speed for finals so expect him to be in the 2.20's Those of you not familiar with windham mt, 2:20's is insanely fast time. That's alot of crap to deal with in a short time. This corse is smooth by east coast conditions, only a couple rock gardens. Windham's track is about high speed, we have way more tech rock gardens with no dirt showing for miles.

y is windam havin so much more coverage on pink bike than the other world cups because its in america i wonder p.s bring on neg probs
  • 3 0
Nope... Pinkbike is a Canadian site, not American. PB relies heavily on content submitted by non PB staff, therefore, the more journalist and photographers submitting content to PB, the more coverage that will be posted.
  • 1 0
Windham actually has no more coverage than any other World Cup, and probably less because of the lack of 4X. We have a pretty set schedule of what we post normally.

Day 1 Wednesday - Track walk and behind the scenes
Day 2 Thursday - Timed training/practice and behind the scenes
Day 3 Friday - 4X quali and DH
Day 4 Saturday - 4X final and DH quali
Day 5 Sunday - DH finals

We have 2 photographers with 2 different styles, sometimes the posts get put together and sometimes they don't, it depends on how they fit. We also try to do a wrap up photo post from DH and the pits sometime Monday or Tuesday.

And then we have guys like Stu Thomson and others that submit good content and we run it...

No 4x this year - Why is that? It was voted best course last year too. Anyone?

 From the UCI:

“The 2011 edition of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup presented by Shimano will get under way in less than two weeks with the first round in Pietermaritzburg (South Africa).

A modification to the programme for the seventh of the 10-round series has been announced: there will not be a 4-cross competition in Windham. Only the cross-country and downhill events will be raced in the American resort – which is hosting a round of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup presented by Shimano for the second time – on the 9th and 10th July.

After Pietermaritzburg, the 4-cross specialists will meet up again in Fort William (GBR) and Leogang (AUT) in June, then Mt-Sainte Anne (CAN) in July, before the finals of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup presented by Shimano which will take place this year in Val di Sole (ITA) in August.”

Windham's reason was that the course was torn down for winter use of the slope (it's a ski area) and the cost of rebuilding it was too high to justify it.
