SMITH

Few riders have captured the hearts of Canadian DH race fans as completely as Stevie Smith. At 22, the Vancouver Island native has some significant results, including a win at the US Open in 2008, and a silver at the World Champs in Quebec in 2010. Known for his tireless drive and relentless training, 2012 looks to be a potentially huge year for Smith to go out and absolutely smash it.

  • + 5
Looking forward on him delivers in coming Redbull Rampage.
  • + 5
Such a well rounded rider. Yet he still keeps an eye on the prize.
  • + 7
sure helps that Bearclaw is his jumping buddy. That must rub off on him.

I hope Stevie is going to kill it this season!!

Whats up with the black stanchions on the boxxers??
  • + 8
theyre custom sram blackbox boxxer stanchions, if i'm not mistaken?
  • + 25
haha, have you been living under a rock? These guys have been running the black stanchions for 2/3 years now.
  • + 61
hey, that's not fair to people who live under rocks.
  • + 19
In all fairness, if you lived under Heckler's rock you should know whats up.
  • + 5
and one point goes to Terrafire.
  • - 2
didn't they stop for a few months when the new Boxxers came out ? then they realised that the black ones ran better then having the letters on the stancions as they were causing resistance through the seals or something ?
  • + 4
and thats why hes my favorite racer in the world..
  • + 1
Kev, what you are saying does not makes sense. The letters on the stanchions are under the coating, so they don't make any special stiction. And the black coating is DLC coating, with which the stanchions have less friction, thus they are better.
  • + 1
lehel i was bout to say that i want the coated stanchions on my boxxers
  • + 1
I think everybody wants those stanchions on their boxxers. Big Grin

My gut says that Smith is gonna finish in the top 5 overall this season. It's anyone's guess how it's gonna shake out but my top 5 are, (in no particular order)
Hart,Gwin, Brosnan,Hill,Smith.... Minnaar too...(Damn there is alot of talent) I think Sam feels he has alot to prove and is gonna surprise alot of people. Regardless... With all the young talent getting "seasoned" , this year is gonna be awesome!!!
  • + 6
Don't forget Gee - and I'm sure Peaty can put one in the mix. Hart has won one race - one race and consistently winning (like Minnaar, Atherton and now Gwinn do) are totally different.
  • + 2
but he did show he has the talent to do well (in that one race) as well as other places like Fort Bill.....

top 5 is hard to pick, but it will include Gee, Gwin, Minaar and Hart... (in no order) the 5th place will be a very tight race between Hill, Brosnan and Smith!
  • + 2
I'm not sure how many seasons Peaty has in him but I did have him down as a top 5 also.(so ridiculously that makes 7 top fives) I figure the closer he gets to his final season, the more likely he is to pour it on to maybe go out on top. (all speculation of course) As for Gee, I thought maybe it might take those guys a season to acclimated to their gig. same goes for Fairclough.
  • + 2
I never make guesses at who will do great. Because most years it's one crazy story after the other. I mean who expected Gwin to do what he did last year? Or for Hart to do what he did for that matter? If you would have even suggested either of those two doing what they did people would have just laughed at you on here.
  • + 5
oh what the hell? i had no idea steve killed it that much at Dirt jumpung Like flips whaaa!!!
  • + 6

  • + 1
Love the pic of him bombing Heckler's Rock! Check out the dude on the far right rocking not only a splint on his left arm but his right arm is in a sling too! Wiping must be a pain in the ass.... Wink

  • + 3

Stevie! Canada needs a ripper up on the podium! It deserves it! You deserve it!!
  • + 1
well said neimbc. canada is a mecca of dh and mtn biking in general; if any country deserves a new champion, its canada. on a related note: i am 3 weeks into owning my new 2012 wilson frame set and it is the most amazing bike i have ever been on. i was a fan of devinci global racing and steve smith last season; now they're my favorite. smith is gonna take off this season, i know it!
  • + 3

 sideburn stevie
  • + 1
You obviously don't know the difference between sideburns and mad ass chops.

Because they my friend, are some killer chops.

Does anyone know the point in which sideburns become chops though? I guess just when its more like a beard than a sideburn really
  • + 8
I know mine go from burns to chops when the wife starts bitchin to cut that shit offWink
  • + 1
it's a serious set of chops. they change from burners to chops when the mustache connects. makes me want mine back, chops ftw!
