If you have one prize and you are one of ten people who enter to win it, your chance of winning is 1 in 10. the next day, there's a contest with one prize and you are one of ten people who enter to win it: same chance, 1 in 10. So if you enter that same contest 25 times, you have 25 opportunities to win but your chances of winning remain the same every day. Really not that f*cking hard.
No.
@mfbeast12 couldn't have said it better
Think about rolling a die - are you more likely to roll a six with one throw or with ten throws?
Yes - if you play the lottery every week you're clearly more likely to win something over the course of a year then if you only entered once.
When it is an "and" you multiply the fractions so the chances of winning competition A AND B would be 1/100.
@bikervince101 think about it like this: if you enter 10 contests each with 10 people in them, that doesn't mean you'll win, because they are independent of each other. @CameronRose 's example was on point, if there is a lottery with 10,000 people and you enter 10,000 of those lotteries, that in no way means that you will win, because they don't keep pulling names out of the same hypothetical hat, they switch hats every time.
jcc's 93% came from a hypothetical with only 10 entrants.
Entering a 1/10,000 chance lottery 10,000 times would give you a statistical likelihood of winning once out of all those times i.e. the most likely outcome is that you will win once. If you ran that same scenario an arbitrarily large number of times the average number of wins in each would be 1.
No, each outcome doesn't effect the others and there is every chance you might not win at all, it is also possible that you win all 10,000. Saying it is statistically likely is not saying it is guaranteed, saying it is statistically unlikely is not saying it is impossible.
@Patrick9-32
Hooray for logic!
"Oh wait, that's my dashboard..."
Congrats to winners though!
It's a giveaway contest; lots of people enter, very few win. Kinda like the lottery, except it isn't pay - to - play. Vendors and sponsors put this on, and for that I am grateful. I didn't win anything, but for those who did free shit is good, right?
Thanks PW for putting this on, I hope that you continue the tradition for years to come, despite the whiney folks who didn't win.
Thanks Pinkbike, for this Dec. giveaway, but especially for putting together the Share the Ride. Everyone who gives wins in that one, keep it up!
Bummed I didn't win anything but I love the idea!
congrats for all winners, enjoy the stuffs...
thanks pinkbike for amazing contest, hope you have same thing this year...
