A new company has come to the table with bold claims of grip, performance and style. Anamoly has created a
kickstarter program that they hope will give them the funding they need to bring a new take on the flat pedal shoe to the market.
What do Anomaly Say?Anomaly shoes will use their Hero Rubber technology, which they claim is the stickiest rubber compound on the planet to give riders “magnetic” levels of traction on their pedals. To look at, it shares a tread similar to other designs, but I imagine it will be the compound that will be really telling. It will be interesting to see how they stack up against the benchmark Five Ten Stealth rubber.
They aim to pair this super-sticky compound to a style that they feel is lacking from some other company's offerings. They want to combine a technical item with a casual style to give a shoe that doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb and have people thinking “kook” should you run into a cafe. Some of the designs, they say, were inspired by frame-protection kits that you may have seen livening up the look of somebody’s bike. They further combine this with mud and water-resistant properties and a thermo-welded and stitchless construction.
There are also features to keep your feet protected and comfortable including a toe-cap, areas of perforation to let your feet breathe and a high-medial insole that aims to absorb some of the lumps and bumps you may come across on the trail.
The shoe has been in the works for two and a half years and hopes to secure funding over a 30 day period. Structured pledges start from around $100. Once the campaign is successfully funded, there will be a lead time of around three to four months.
Makes a shoe that is red and grey with zebra stripes, or electric blue with a white sole.

“Some of the designs, they say, were inspired by frame protection kits..”
Because whenever I think to myself “stylish footwear”, I know that’s what immediately springs to mind….
That said, I've never been super worried about whether my shoes fit in with the normies. but the irony is thick.

Hi there, Chris here - the founder. To clarify, we never said anything about 'blending in' or about rider's looking like 'kooks.' Those were words put in our mouths by the PB editors. Visit the Kickstarter page to see things from our perspective, without taking things out of context please.
And regarding your comment about the aggressive grip around the toebox, we've recently updated this portion based on rider/consumer feedback. You can take a look at the redesign yourself here: www.kickstarter.com/projects/anamoly/the-mountain-bike-shoe-redefined-anamoly/posts/3278142
I assume you're making mention to the aggressive knobby grip around the outside toebox, which we've since addressed based on rider/consumer feedback. You can take a look at the redesign here: www.kickstarter.com/projects/anamoly/the-mountain-bike-shoe-redefined-anamoly/posts/3278142
Look Chris, if a person really feels the need to have zebra stripes on his or her shoes, they could easily paint some stripes onto good old white shoes.
The Big companies are finally starting to get back to these basics of putting out a white shoe.
Look, the overall profile of the shoe looks good.
But the zebra stripes mixed with red lightning bolts????? Really???
Red lightning bolts with zebra stripes on a gray shoe, is something my great grand dad would give to my little kids on their 4th birthday.
- boa/no laces
- weather proof top cover
- inside ankle protection
- Adidas Samba-esque styling
- muted colours
- quick drying materials
- grippy rubber but supportive midsole
- fairy lights? Or was that different post?
There you go, kickstart that and you'd have the backing of every PB flat-pedaller!!
I don't understand how most shoes are not going higher like standard boot's with flexible ankle cover. Like the Adidas 5.10 Trail Cross Mid Pro.
With this shoe my shoe wont pick up the trail in seconds. Mud also won't stuck Into it.

2. That's not hero dirt. That's just absolut normal dry compact dirt.
3. I stopped watching right after he threw his knife because that made absolute no sense in a bike video. (I don't want to understand)
1. To clarify, we've never bashed on any other brand. What we simply mentioned was the lack of options on the marketplace, and many brands cutting the quality of their rubber quality (at the expense of rider's safety), and have had numerous poor quality control (QC) complaints regarding build quality. Jonny used what he had at hand to get the point across (a creative decision, you could say).
2. We shot the video on a very limited budget and in a limited time frame. There are definitely some rainy shots, like where Elliott Heap was riding in the mud during the last Beast Mode sequence. You can also see Hero Dirt referenced on the Kickstarter page, where I had a bad crash and went OTB due to slipping a pedal and crappy rubber on the pair of MTB shoes I bought up at the Whistler village (Specialized 2FO).
3. This is because the all-black style is called 'Ninja,' which is a play on the trail at Whistler called Samurai Pizza Cats (named after the 90's morning kids' cartoon). We like to have fun and not take ourselves too seriously, as much of the bike industry has been becoming in the last few years.

Sorry didn't saw the answer... But worth to answer again (if you see it... not like me a year later...).
Thanks for the explanation.
So for point 3: ok it makes sense now haha Good thing not to be too serious.
Have a good day mate
Cheers
I assume you're making mention to the aggressive knobby grip around the outside toebox, which many have called mention to and which we've since addressed based on rider/consumer feedback. I'm pretty sure they're getting sued for copyright infringement with that outsole.
Don't start your entry into the bike community by insulting a bunch of other brands. Just be good on your own.
So glad he (sort of) knows what hero dirt is?
This video is annoying and I wasted time watching it, but finishing up by saying the bike shoe has been redefined is a stretch, there is literally nothing new here, just claims of being better.
Also maybe it works for you, but not my style.
Copyright infringement? Coin grip pattern has been around long before MTB shoes: duckduckgo.com/?t=ffab&q=coin+grip+pattern&iax=images&ia=images
We didn't insult one brand or the other, we simply made a general statement about the lack of options and (some) brands cutting their quality and having many quality complaints lately. This is what gave us the passion and the drive to undertake the risks to make something like this happen. We're underdogs here, and we're passionate as all can be. How do you think Gary Fischer got started, or how the original 'mountainbike' came to be about? A bunch of finance guys wearing suits in a boardroom making decisions about what riders want? Or brave, passion-fueled 'derelicts' who challenged convention and wanted to bring about a whole new movement?

Anyway, there's much more of the story on why we chose to launch on Kickstarter on the actual campaign page: www.kickstarter.com/projects/anamoly/the-mountain-bike-shoe-redefined-anamoly
Unfortunately for a head-to-head comparison, we're definitely all for it, but unfortunately there are only two pairs of each of these (Men's sample size 9) that exist — and they're currently with Jonny and his team in the UK. The Kickstarter is only running for another 25 days, so having the prototype pairs sent from the UK to PB offices and happening to find a rider who's size 9 within the short period we'll need funding by is slim to none. But, after the campaign wraps up (pending successful funding so we'll have the capital to open the different sole sizes), we definitely plan to send a pair over to the crew at PB for a full review like you speak of.
So we're at a chicken and egg problem. I don't have a rich uncle, and I come from as blue collar of a background as they come — so I don't personally have $60k to just whip up and get these made (I wish I did). This is why we're turning to Kickstarter, as the website allows for pre-orders by micro-investors or 'backers' worldwide, aka the 'crowdfunding community.'
Anyway, there's much more of the story on why we chose to launch on Kickstarter on the actual campaign page. We have 25 days left to reach our funding goal, so I hope you'll consider backing us and giving the underdog a chance! www.kickstarter.com/projects/anamoly/the-mountain-bike-shoe-redefined-anamoly
Anamoly: Let everyone at the brewery know you're a kook post ride!
I'm a serious rider myself, and I don't bullshit. The idea came for these because I took a really bad crash on my 30th birthday (back in 2017) at Whistler on the first day — which essentially ruined the remainder of the week-long trip. It was a particularly rainy season and was quite muddy and wet when my riding buddies and I were up there. I bought a pair of Specialized 2FO's, and the rubber was garbage on them! My feet dismounted and I went OTB on a big jump on A-Line. Ever since that experience, I always wanted to design a shoe with rubber that became stickier when wet, to prevent that same bad experience from happening to others.
Anyway, there's much more of the story on the actual campaign page (including photos from the trip before the crash happened). We have 25 days left to reach our funding goal, so I hope you'll consider backing us and giving the underdog a chance! www.kickstarter.com/projects/anamoly/the-mountain-bike-shoe-redefined-anamoly
Sadly we can't bring everything everyone wants into one single shoe / shoe launch, since the costs would just be way too exorbitant. So if not on this line, than on a follow up '2.0 version.' More details here: www.kickstarter.com/projects/anamoly/the-mountain-bike-shoe-redefined-anamoly
Anyway, developing a line of prototypes like these in multiple different colorways, through about 10 iterations each to dial everything in is not cheap. Those upfront costs were entirely bootstrapped by myself. I was forced to sell my mountain bike and all of my gear, as well as many other belongings just to finance those early designs. I've also been dedicated full time to getting this thing off the ground, which means no steady paycheck coming in for the two years we were developing them. Would anyone else here on PB be willing to take such a risk?
So the $60k we're asking for is to cover the costs of the full size run of mold 'tooling' to make the outsole, as well as to order all of the materials which will comprise what's known as the 'upper' of the shoe. The way Kickstarter works is it allows micro investors, or what are known as 'backers' to pre-order the product at a discounted price before it's ever released publicly to market — thereby funding the initial investment needed to 'kickstart' a new idea, invention, startup company, etc. — without the need for venture capital, angel investors, private equity, etc. who would end up taking an equity stake in the company and relinquishing control from the original, early stage founders.
We took a huge risk on this line, yes, but that's because we're tired of seeing the same old same old that's on the market. Inspiration for these came not only from MTB frame protectors, but from the ski/snowboarding industry, where louder graphics are the norm. And yes, we're offering the standard all black (Ninja) and black / gum styles (A-Line Gum). There's much more you can take a look at for yourself here: www.kickstarter.com/projects/anamoly/the-mountain-bike-shoe-redefined-anamoly
Yes, the product actually looks and feels much better in person. Jonny and his crew did a great job on the video, so hat tip to him. It was a strange creative brief, but they took it and ran with it. Regarding your stretch lace pocket integrated into the tongue — we still haven't committed to mass production, so this is a change we could definitely implement (pending successful funding).
That said, we only have 25 days left to reach our funding goal — so I hope you'll consider backing us and giving an underdog a chance! www.kickstarter.com/projects/anamoly/the-mountain-bike-shoe-redefined-anamoly
Jeez nice wheelies!
They found Neil Armstrongs missing moon boots.
Do they have lights in the soles that start blinking when you land drops?
The zebra print is fine... if you're a zebra in the savannah trying to blend in to not be eaten by a lion.
Or for a trophy hunters man room.
Or crocodile dundees hat?
Anyways good luck to them.
* not true.
My experience so far: nothing beats old thin soled sticky 5:10s . My freerider elements were just brilliant, my faves- but I recently wore them to death. New pros are almost as good. Clans and 2FO s ok but simply don’t grip. Ditto ride concepts . Vans … they were good enough back in the day I guess
I’ve taken to buying old model 5:10s on eBay, got some VXIs on the way… excited.
For summer my preferred shoes are these NB’s, amazing grip and more protection than skate shoes. Not quite as much as fr pros. You get them on special all the time for $80aud, often at Jim Kidd if you’re in Perth! The best thing is they’re tax deductible for many people.
www.newbalance.com/pd/slip-resistant-fresh-foam-806/MID806.html
But, we've since shifted our strategy and are going to produce the TOP FOUR colorways/styles, which will be dependent on an audience/crowd vote that will come through a post-campaign survey (aka 'backer survey'). So, due to current popularity, Ninja and A-line gum (the 'non fashion colors' as you call them) are likely to make the cut.
There's much more you can take a look at for yourself here on the actual campaign page, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised: www.kickstarter.com/projects/anamoly/the-mountain-bike-shoe-redefined-anamoly
I’d be stoked if someone…ANYONE made shoes with grip as good as 5.10. I like Freerider Pros but wish there were other options.
I'm a serious rider myself, and I don't bullshit. Covered w riding wounds/scuffs and mud, I’d get over some of the “louder” look at me patters.
Anyway, there's much about that on the actual Kickstarter campaign page, under the Rewards section (right below Colorways). We have 25 days left to reach our funding goal, so I hope you'll consider backing us and giving an underdog a chance! www.kickstarter.com/projects/anamoly/the-mountain-bike-shoe-redefined-anamoly
I didn't see that. The ALDI style bike shoes covering this page must have distracted me.
Until then...
They could be super awesome and I’ll never by them over five tens as they are just hideous.
The lace length will be fixed in production. We've also made several other design changes based on rider feedback and customer requests - including cleaning up the front sole toebox portion, and widening the last to fit an E or EE size foot. You can take a look at more of our full story and why we're so passionate about building a better MTB shoe here on the Kickstarter page: www.kickstarter.com/projects/anamoly/the-mountain-bike-shoe-redefined-anamoly
Hi there, Chris here - the founder. There have been many requests for a wider fit, actually. We plan to widen up the last to fit a size E to EE foot. We posted about this in one of our updates on Kickstarter here: www.kickstarter.com/projects/anamoly/the-mountain-bike-shoe-redefined-anamoly/posts/3276791
We're definitely listening to all rider / customer feedback and making updates and adjustments accordingly. Hope you'll consider backing us!
We only have 14 days left on Kickstarter to reach our full funding goal so we can bring these to market, and have already made several product updates based on rider/customer feedback. Hope you'll give an underdog a chance and consider backing us! www.kickstarter.com/projects/anamoly/the-mountain-bike-shoe-redefined-anamoly
