Cedric Gracia wins first European Adidas Slopestyle Cedric Gracia wins first European Adidas Slopestyle
The first ever European Slopestyle contest in Saalbach Hinterglemm surpassed people’s keenest imaginations. Expectations were high due to the quality of the course designed by Canadian freerider Gareth Dyer (Fiat Rotwild adidas) -“if he does it, it must be good” – and a world class starter field. But the incredible show the riders from around the world put on today, left spectators and organisers literally speechless.

Mike Jones, The Racer's Edge - Canada Cup Season Opener Mike Jones, The Racer's Edge - Canada Cup Season Opener
The Canada Cup Race Season started up this past weekend in Quebec. Racers converged on Bromont, a cycling Mecca located just one hour from Montreal. Bromont is home to one of Canada’s national Cycling centers, a BMX track, a Velodrome, loads of killer XC trails and some of the most technical DH trails in the country. Back in 1999 there was a World Cup held here that was deemed so technical a number of riders refused to start the race. It is very good for the sport to have races here in terms of the quality and difficulty of the courses.

A New Deity to Worship A New Deity to Worship
When I first met Eric Davies, it was Interbike 2001 and he was pimping MRP components. His high energy and enthusiastic demeanor combined with a laid back surfer style was nothing less than contagious. That's no small feat on day 3 of the Indoor Show when most folks are dragging their hungover, dehydrated asses from booth to booth. Just over a year ago, Eric left MRP with his considerble knowledge (and energy) to pimp his own wares, Deity Components.

A trail maintenance day has been scheduled for Saturday May 29, 2004. We need as many people as possible to come out to help revamp the trail surface. Parks Canada will join us for the day of work. If you love to ride in Banff there is no reason not to attend. If we want trails we must help to take responsibility for them. This is our chance to do just that. Mountain bikers are asked to meet at the Norquay lodge parking lot at 10:30am on Saturday May 29th, equipment will be provided by Parks Canada. They are even allowing us some leeway in trail improvements.

Whistler Summer Gravity Camps Whistler Summer Gravity Camps
I still remember my first foray onto Vancouver's North Shore like it was yesterday. Day one of a 3-day adventure was cut short by a less than graceful dismount on Seventh Secret and the resulting dislocated finger, cuts and scrapes and my severely bruised pride. You see, before leaving Calgary, I'd been in touch with Bruce Spicer, a long time idol of mine, about riding together on day 2 of my trip. Upon limping into my hotel room, I reluctantly dialed Spicer's cell number (with my thumb I should add) with the intention of cancelling the following day's ride. "That's too bad" was his reply "Andrew's coming along for the ride".

Watsonville, CA 5/24/04 – FOX Racing Shox debuted their long awaited Downhill Fork at the Big Bear, California Norba Nationals. The latest addition to FOX’s Fork line is the Downhill Factory Edition, currently available to a select group of international racers. “We are going into an already mature product segment, just as we did when we introduced our current line of XC and Trail forks. From that experience we knew we had to be functionally differentiated in the Fork’s chassis performance, damping performance, adjustability, and packaging,” said Mario Galasso, V.P. of FOX’s Bicycle Division.

Other than trouble, they are also working on improving the performance or their distinctive red & black Double D shock. One thing I like about the Double D is the fact that it’s simple – no need for a 30 page setup manual since there are only 3 main adjustments to make. Set the pre-load, the compression, rebound and go - then forget about it.

My Bullit is Dead My Bullit is Dead
The year was 1999, and the freeride scene was finally 'ramping' up. I had a 21" Marin Nail Trail XC racer which I bought a couple years previously, and it served well on all those Moab adventures, 24 Hours of Adrenalin events, local trails and even one official XC race! It was the bike I cut my teeth on, sometimes literally, learning trials, street, racing and eventually riding all the trails on the Shore.
I remember the last weekend on that bike quite well.

Unfortunately, Calgary's Stanley Cup madness has given Mother Nature cause to bring winter back one last time (we hope). The whack of snow that hit the city earlier this week was dwarfed by the metric whack of snow that hit our beloved Moose Mountain.
