US Open Giant Slalom Video US Open Giant Slalom Video
Giant Slalom is a pretty unique event, especially when compared to its more commonly seen relative Dual Slalom. It's really all up to you. You're on a course by yourself, with nothing but your own brakes slowing you down. When the time comes you have to choose how fast to go, and in turn that decides what position you finish it. Here's a video that Ambrose Weingart put together showcasing the US Open's Giant Slalom course, and event.

Riding the 7 Stanes Riding the 7 Stanes
I want to share my experience of a recent road trip of Scotland I did with Roger Gonzalez, the Vallnord resident pro rider in Andorra and the “Riders” magazine director from Catalunya, Alex Chavarria. I am a native Scot, but live in Barcelona. For years I have loved going to ride trails set up by the 7 Stanes and always make a point of visiting when I am back. I was therefore keen to show them that Fort William was only a small part of what Scotland has to offer, so we set off to investigate Scotland’s root treasures of mountain biking trails.

Source: Bike Parks BC

Picture this: a man on a bike skids to the stop at the bottom of a high speed quad. The bike is enourmous and features suspension worthy of a 4X4 truck. He is dripping with sweat, dust coats his body and makes muddy rivulets down his face. His body is thickly armoured with pads and a full face helmet. Intimidating? Yes, until you notice his eleven year old daughter wheel up next to him. Enormous smiles are plastered over both their faces.

The Camp of Champions is blowing up. Literally. The Camp of Champions is blowing up the 365 Sports Big Air Bag all summer in "The Compound". You can now ride at COC from 10AM to 10PM. Like the idea of a foam pit, the 365 Sports Big Air Bag is designed to help riders learn new tricks by having an amazingly soft, safe, landing. The 365 Sports Big Air Bag is enormous so you can attempt any trick you can think of. Best of all you don't use all your energy digging yourself and your bike out after landing like you do in a foam pit. The 365 Sports Big Air Bag is like a stunt bag you see on movie sets for jumping out of buildings, but designed for going big and learning tricks on a mountain bike and BMX bike. It sets the new standard for learning.

365 Sports, The Camp of Champions and "The Compound" have added a whole new dimension to summer camps and riding in Whistler. More inside,

Branding, it hurts, it’s hot and it smells too..! Branding, it hurts, it’s hot and it smells too..!
Source: Rich Travis

I see us all pushing our wears in this incestuous industry of bikes… That’s right, living, loving and even hating on each other like a bunch of kids on the playground. Nothing really changes with age, be it a scrape here or bruise there, elbow or ego for that matter… That’s right, I’m guilty, and so are you Pinkbike faithful, keyboardist to the herd and angry youth of course, can’t forget them. Like it or not, you're getting branded like a small young calf as we speak. It's obvious as you display your vast knowledge of the brands you choose to love and hate. Is that your shoes that smell like a barn?

This letter arrived at work the other day and I thought it was good for everyone in the industry to take a step back and remember the branding that got you all here in the first place. This young person writes and I add don’t jab at his penmanship and/or mis-spelling, he’s only 12 for the love of Pete. More inside,

Rocky Mountain Altitude 70RSL Carbon - Review Rocky Mountain Altitude 70RSL Carbon - Review
When asked to write a review on the Rocky Mountain Altitude, I thought it would be a sloppy wet mess of a trail day here in Edmonton as the trails still had some ice and lots of mud everywhere. Conditions like this can be a good thing for a review, but is can limit how hard you push a bike on climbs and descents which prevents one from seeing the true potential of a bike design. As everything came together for the test date, I was presented with an opportunity for my wife and I, along with a good riding buddy from Edmonton to meet friends from Switzerland in Moab, Utah for a week of riding. I quickly set up the bike for my weight and riding style, packed our gear and bikes into the Honda Element for the long drive to Moab.

2010 Midlands Champs 2010 Midlands Champs
When it comes to regional racing in the UK there really is little to touch the events organised by the Pearce Cycles team. So long have they been running, and so successfully too, that they are an institution and a much anticipated set of fixtures on many a rider's calendar. Fun tracks, spot on uplift and a relaxed atmosphere all add up to produce killer events year in year out. This weekend saw a return to Bringewood for round three of the series and the Midlands Champs.

Inviting back some Juniors from previous seasons, and adding some of the up and coming U17 riders, Coach Dave Hord had an opportunity to introduce the riders to recently signed on coaches, Chad Hendren and Mark Bunyan. Enter The "Be The Camp of Champions Intern" Contest Enter The "Be The Camp of Champions Intern" Contest
Ever since we ran our "Win Casey Groves' Bike" contest last year, people have been asking us to run a contest where the prize is a trip to camp. So we came up with the First Annual "Be the COC Intern" Contest. To enter the "Be The COC Intern" contest, make a short video showing the lengths you would go to be "The COC Intern” this summer. Use your brain and don't do anything that could cause injury or death etc, etc, as COC and its sponsors are not responsible for your safety. Post it into the "COC Intern Contest" video category on Pinkbike. The more you make us laugh, showing your dedication to biking, willingness to be doing dumb stuff for laughs and how bad you want to come to camp, the better. If you don't have a sense of humor, or are under 16, please don't enter. On June 10th, the videos with the most favorites, will be in the finals, and The Camp of Champions staff will chose "The COC Intern" for 2010 from one of the videos. The prize could be worth over $10,000.

Brandon has worked really hard to be where he is today; he may make tricks look effortless, but that doesn’t come without many hours per day on the bike. Needless to say, some major sponsors, such as Red Bull, Trek, and SRAM have recognized this. Such support allows Brandon to have a few alternate personas away from the bike. We thought we would see how much fun could possibly be had with Brandon in one day.

4 Brodie Titanium Models Now to Choose From 4 Brodie Titanium Models Now to Choose From
Source: Brodie Bikes

In 2007 we introduced our first titanium bike, the cross country (XC) Cruzado. With an oversized 3/2.5 downtube, 100mm travel fork and hydraulic disc brakes, it was a bike we all instantly fell in love with. Titanium is the perfect material for a hardtail mountain bike: it’s light, strong and has a supple ride quality that is perfect for rugged conditions. Titanium will never corrode and is tougher than any steel, aluminum or carbon fiber bicycle; it’s a bike that will last a lifetime. With all the success we’ve had with it, we’ll now have three more additional frames/bikes offered in Ti! More details inside,

5 Exercises to Help You Rip Corners Faster 5 Exercises to Help You Rip Corners Faster
Few things separate great riders from average ones like the ability to corner. Being able to glide into a turn, avoid overcooking it and sail out with maximum speed is a thing of beauty to watch. For a lot of riders it seems like voodoo black magic and it seems impossible for them to figure out how to go that fast in a corner without washing out or wrecking.

The good news is that cornering ability isn't magical and you can significantly improve your speed with a few pointers and some training.

Llangollen | Welsh Championships Llangollen | Welsh Championships
Llangollen is a venue which quickly cemented its status as a prime event in 2009 thanks to a near vertical track courtesy of Steve Parr & Si Paton of the then NPS. Tight, technical and in the woods the consequences of getting it wrong weren’t good and riders relished the challenge of this unique course as they stepped their riding up to match it. Roll on nearly twelve months and there have been developments at Llangollen. Politics unfortunately prevent the use of the steep wooded track but instead of throwing in the towel, local landowner Martin Sands has got the spade out along with a number of helpful volunteers and produced another track with an altogether different character. This year the BDS will make a return visit to race the new line down the hill but first it was the turn of the Welsh Champs, brought to you by Borderline events.

Highland Park Report Highland Park Report
Mother Nature has been good to the trail crew since the last report and that of course makes for some good trail building! Last year if you wanted to ride Hellion you had no choice, but to battle Shillelagh for a few hundred feet before getting to your first floater step up. Well not any more. I just came down from the mountain and I think I counted 12 new jump features, a hand full of berms and a new drop we are calling exit 18. Yes exit 18 will be smaller than exit 19, but it fits in this section of trail nicely. For all you hungry riders with a thirst for big drops not to worry as it’s part of the Maiden Voyage makeover plan…more on that later in the season.

Half Nelson - Squamish's new 3km downhill pumptrack Half Nelson - Squamish's new 3km downhill pumptrack
Squamish's newest trail is basically a 3km downhill pumptrack. A beginner/intermediate/advanced trail built by Big Red Ted Tempany and a cadre of local volunteers (particularly Steve K, Clark L, Barry M), it was funded by a grant by local and federal Canadian government bodies (more about that in this article. It can also be described as a mini A-Line in the rainforest. It's very progressive of the local authorities in Squamish to support such a trail and a testament to the hard work of the local trail organization (SORCA) and their volunteers who put in countless hours and wrote grant proposals to make this happen.
