We couldn’t get any info out of Yeti about their race team for 2004, but we did get the low down on their new bike line up. Yeti has a few new models for 2004, including a 4X special projects frame that will be fabricated in very limited runs (about 50 to 100) and will be sold outside their inner circle for the first time in Yeti’s history.
The 4X frame will be numbered and hand-built in Yeti’s factory and features the same technology that has been exclusively ridden by Team Yeti’s riders. The 4X frame had 3.25” of travel, the perfect amount to suck up bumps and keep the frame tight and efficient. Huge box stays to keep the rear end stiff and allow full power on each pedal stroke.
The DH-9 will remain unchanged for 2004, although there is a band new DH frame in the works for Yeti. They currently testing a few different designs, but come Sea Otter you should be able to see the final new production DH bike.
The AS-X bumped up in travel for 2004 (now at 6.5 or 7.5”
. The AS-X has proven itself in the toughest conditions and is the weapon of choice for the North Shore-based Flowriders. A collaborative effort between Yeti’s new school riders an their design guys, the AS-X is strong, maneuverable and at home on skinnies and big drops. The AS-X supports a massive One.Point.Five headtube.
The DJ, Yeti’s all around hardtail that is equally at home on jumps, at the park, or racing 4X. The bike features massive replaceable droupouts, super strong front triangle and rigid box-section loopstay rear triangle.
Also new for 2004 is the AS-R. With 3.75” of Active Travel (AS) and at 5.1lbs (frame) this bike makes a perfect choice for you weight-conscious trail riders or hard core XC racers. The AS-R also has a carbon FlexPivot on the stays that flexes ever so slightly and also lightens the bike.
And now you can simply crank up the volume and listen to a Yeti representative tell you all about the new 2004 lineup:
