Whistler-based Big Mountain Bike Adventures has launched dream mountain bike trips that are sure to inspire. “Hands down, the Whistler Bike Park is the premiere venue to learn new skills on a mountain bike,” says Chris Winter of Big Mountain Bike Adventures. He is referring to the unique design of the lift-accessed park which is similar to its winter brethren - with graduated trail ratings and skills parks to help riders learn to jump and ride bridges that have made BC mountain biking famous world-wide. “Not only is it fun as hell, but riders learn so much at the park. Literally, after a single day at of riding, your skills will have improved dramatically.”

Big Mountain has designed trips that harness this newfound knowledge and guide riders to the area’s world-class backcountry riding - via floatplane and helicopter.

Riders hop on a floatplane on Whistler’s Green Lake, fly 35-minutes over glaciated peaks to be dropped off on a pristine lake high in the Chilcotin Mountains, a beautiful and isolated wilderness area just east of Whistler. In the Chilcotins lie flowered meadows with smooth ribbons of singletrack trails that were carved by gold rush pioneers dating back to the late 1800’s. Wicked descents, short climbs and buffed dirt. There are still original artifacts at some of the cowboy camps along the way. Wildlife is everywhere with California bighorn sheep, moose, deer, mountain goat, grizzly bear, black bear and wolf. Another of Big Mountain’s Whistler trips takes riders up to a mountaintop via helicopter for a 7000-foot descent.

“The beauty of the Chilcotins,” says Big Mountain guide D’Arcy Burke, “is that the trails aren’t super technical like most of the riding in BC. Experts can pin it and love it, while fit intermediates can ride everything too.”

Big Mountain Bike Adventures also runs trips in the Swiss Alps, Morocco and Costa Rica.

Whistler trip details:
The 2-day Enduro, cost: $720 CAD (approx. $530 USD)
The 4-day Flying Beaver, cost: $1240 (approx. $915 USD)
The 5-day Escape, cost: $1750 CAD (approx. $1290 USD)
