FUNN would like to announce our new young rider development program, which we are currently in the process of rider selection at this time. The launch date will be May 29th 2004 and will take in a number of top riding locations around the Vancouver area in order to assess the rider’s abilities on various terrains and provide maximum variations for photo shoots. The FUNN Internship program will consist of 5 Dirt/Urban riders under the age of 18, who live or ride in the BC area. The riders will receive a starter product package of FUNN products, a chromo street/dirt frame from Flow, brakes from Hayes, chain device from E13 and Hoots Internship jersey. Riders will be re-assessed a couple of time’s in the year at various locations (TBA) and will be awarded further support for good progress. These days will have a guest star rider on hand for advice! The final assessment day is set for 28th May 2005 where the rider deemed to have progressed the most through the year will be rewarded with a Full FUNN Supported ride for 2005.

Rider selection is being made by Jay “hooty” Hoots, as a well connected and highly regarded member of the BC and North shore riding scene Jay seemed to us to be the best chap to do the selection. Being so involved with cycling at every level for so long, whether teaching, competing or riding shows we feel Jay has so much knowledge of our sport and industry that he could really make a difference to young up and coming riders getting into the sport. So many rider’s have such big dreams and having someone to turn to for advice and encouragement like Jay often makes the difference between making it or not, The industry is not always the kindest place and can often be scary for younger riders, some get used and abused and come out the other end disillusioned and we just want to help them understand how things work and give them the opportunity to develop there riding and personal promotion skills.

The FUNN Internship is something we plan to run for the foreseeable future and if successful will hopefully develop in such a way as we are able to run similar programs in other parts of North America and Europe. We see the internship as a way of developing riders that can hopefully make up a big part of our World Team in years to come as we feel long term support and association with riders we have helped to develop will produce a stronger and more family orientated team set up and enables us to put something back into the sport along the way. So keep your eyes open for some new rippers on FUNN products in 2004.
