It was no less than a 7.6 on the sick-ter scale. Friday's top qualifier, Paul Basagoitia showed he had what it takes, earning a cool $3000CAD for his unbelievable final run which included, among other things, a backflip onto the last feature, a scaffold step-up and finishing with a tailwhip off that same scaffold. The win could have been had by virtually any one of the competitors, and judges had to be hard pressed narrowing the numbers as the event progressed through the rounds. Besides the crowd of 10,000 at the event (according to event organizers) some standouts in my mind that are worth mentioning...- There was the huge (50 feet +) road gap off the small kicker Cedric Gracia throttled through (cautioning organizers to move all spectators back before beginning the run).

- As if just riding onto the teeter wasn't enough, Kirt Vories' attempted a bar spin onto the Tower of Power, landing slightly tweaked on the teeter, barely hanging on keeping the bike and body on top. He continued the run, dropping the teeter, bar spinning off the box and busting some sweet airs for the crowd. Kirt was later heard saying, "after nearly killing myself on the bar spin step up, I was like, Dude... WHOA! It isn't worth killing yourself for $3000"

- Sinister Bike's Kyle Ebbett was busting huge airs, including a backflip across and 25+ foot gap as well as showing some street style with an abubuca on the big quarter and a 270 footplant on the big wall ride.

- Cannondale's Aaron Chase showed some of that same east coast style with a backflip, some big airs including an X-up and suicide no-hander, a nose manual transfer on the box and very cool 270 semi inverted alley-oop on the wall.

- Vories' Syndicate teammate Cameron Zink busted a huge backflip across a 30 foot gap in addition to some super tech moves. Watch this kid in the future, he's showed he can bust it huge and still hits the tech lines with aplomb. It was also Zink who convinced friend Paul Basagoitia to attend the event.

- Eric Porter played it up for the crowd running the Staff Quarters step-up (formerly known as the green monster now the camo box) and acid dropping to transition.

- Kyle Strait's dad, Jeff warned me Kyle would be flipping his Specialized Demo 9 for the first time in the Slopestyle and Kyle didn't disappoint, backflipping onto the scaffold step-up and tabling off to finish his run.

- Ellsworth's Cameron McCaul was one of the event's standouts boosting with amplitude rarely seen in any venue. His double sided no footed can cans, super extended suicide no handers and superman seat grabs easily brought him to the final 4.

- Timo Pritzel earned his way into the 2 man jump off using his signature backflip table and amplitude to win the judges hearts, but his attempted jump of the final scaffold had him falling no less than 25 feet to concrete-esque hard pack transition. Big D of Freeride Entertainment is enroute to Vancouver to check on Timo's condition and we expect an update later this afternoon (July 26th)

- Another injury not reported earlier but no less serious is that of Sabrina Jonnier. Jonnier's crash through the whoops in the Biker-X event lacerated her liver and she remains hospitalized in Vancouver while they assess her health. Intense head honcho Jeff Steber holds hope she'll be well enough for the Worlds in September.

Our chief photographer Russ Day is still editing photos, and our video footage is sure to follow suit shortly thereafter.

We're also sussing out the Garbanzo and Provincial Championships downhill results, check back later this afternoon for more event highlites from the weekend's event!
