We've been outta touch for a little while over the holiday season, but fear not, Freeride has not been sleeping on the job. Here's a little catch up on what we've been up to and what's in the works for '05.January rolled in and out and so did Freeride as we rolled into our new HQ. Once an old pool hall, we've now taken roost in a 3000 sq. ft office on the main drag in our home town of Nelson, BC. Massive windows, 12 ft ceilings, and a full service bar are just a few of the new things that make coming to work a little more pleasurable each day.
We've also upgraded our infrastructure. A new HD edit suite with 3D graphics compositing and a wireless network throughout the office keeps us up to date with the latest gear and leading the way when it comes to production.
As far as projects go for the year, our calendar is almost full right up until the trade show in Sept.
Filming for “NWD VI – Unchained” is already underway. Earlier this month we've already sent a crew back out to the golden zone of Utah. We're always surprised how every year we head back and still find new areas that blow away even the most jaded rider and shooter alike. Aboard this trip, we sent our “go to” guys: Axl on camera, Gibby shooting stills, and the riding talents of Berrecloth, Chase, and Dunne to round it out. The trip was deemed a success by all. We'll be back to Utah sometime in March and at least one more time before the season is out.
In the works for later in March/ early April is “Red Bull Ice Break”. The Icebreak is an eastern cost surf comp (USA/Canada) that's swell dependent. With qualifiers taken place earlier in the year, Freeride will be on hand to cover the finals in the 0 degree waters at an undisclosed location in Nova Scotia. These guys are truly core. Check out
Red Bull Ice Break for details.
Apres Ice Break, we're headed down to
Sea Otter for the
Bike Magazine awards. While in Cali we will be shooting some Maxxis shorts. This year's shorts will feature their sponsored riders in BMX, Road and Freeride MTN Biking.
The Tour de Georgia is next on the hit list as we'll be working with Jittery Joe's road team for continued work on the Maxxis shorts and also following Chase and Lenosky for some urban mayhem.
Mexico rises on the horizon for the start of May as we head down to La Paz for two weeks of “Red Bull Recon”. The Recon is a Red Bull athlete exploration trip, exploring the amazing topography of La Paz. Similar to the terrain features of the Rampage except it's situated on the ocean with spectacular views and a kaleidoscope of colour. Riders included on this mission will be Chase, Berrecloth, Bourdon and Gracia.
To bring May to a close, Freeride jets to Bolivia for some downhill mayhem with all the big guns.
Stay tuned for future updates and projects this summer including trips to: Kona 2006 Launch, Adidas Slopestyle, Monster Park, Euro Rail, Joyride, Crankworx, and filming in the interior of BC and beyond.
We gratefully acknowledge the support of our sponsors. Without them none of this would be possible.
