Summer is now here and the Sunburst Chairlift is ready to start spinning you to good times on the slopes, with the opening of the Mountain Bike Park and the Alpine Hiking Trails this Saturday! There is no better way to get summer rolling than by taking part in ‘Toonie Day’. That’s right – Mountain Bikers and Hikers can ride the Sunburst Chairlift for only two bucks this Saturday June 25th, with all the proceeds going to the local Health Association and the Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops. The local mountain bike community has been eager to get turned loose in the bike park. The mountain bike trail crew has been hard at work, shaping up some great additions to the already impressive trail network. Home Run has received a machine based tune up that will help give the beginner riders a smoother route down the lower portion of the mountain, and at the same time this easy going beginner run is going to have a couple great surprises for the riders that enjoy snagging a little airtime. Route 66 is another trail that has been a recipient to some major loving from the maintenance crew. This near abandoned trail is now going to become one of the most popular trails on the mountain with over 50 new machine constructed berms. Other additions for the bike park this summer include more roll on style bike racks for the Sunburst Chairlift, the completion of Steam Shovel Dirt Jump Trail to the top of the Sunburst lift (opening expected early July), and many more stunts and obstacles throughout the bike park.

If you are new to the lift access mountain biking scene and want to make sure that you end up on the right trail for your first runs down the slopes, check out our camps, clinics and tours. The crew at Guest Services can get you booked with a great guide who can help make you first day on the slopes a memorable one. Guest Services can be reached at 250-578-5474

Time 2 Ride Bike Shop is also open and ready to help you out with you bike park needs. The shop has a full line of Norco bikes that are built to handle the elements of the park. Check them out for great rental packages that include a bike, armour and helmets. You can reach the shop at 250-578-5577.

It’s time to hit the slopes, so get out your bike gear and a toonie, and head up to the slopes this weekend. If you are looking for a place to stay on the mountain call the fine folks at Central Reservations 1-800-807-3257 or check us out on the web at www.sunpeaksresort.com.
