Temecula, Ca- June 20th, 2005: It has been almost two years since Chris Kovarik has competed on the National circuit, and the Deer Valley NORBA in Park City, Utah was the place that marked his return. The buzz was out on the fact that Chris would be competing in both Downhill and Dual Slalom disciplines, and you could see the excitement in the crowd’s faces and the concern in his competitor’s eyes. In Dual Slalom, Kovarik qualified in the number two spot, and after a long, drawn out duel in the dust and rabid sun, Chris found a home on the podium in the number 4 spot.

Now for the event we have all been waiting to see, Pro DH Qualifying and Racing. Chris had a misfortunate accident in his qualifier that led to a run with no rear brake due to a spliced line, so CK was seeded at the bottom of the list for his race run. After Factory Mechanic Trevor Raines made the necessary repairs to the M3’s brake system, Chris was back in the gate and ready to tame the brutal Deer Valley DH course. After 6 beeps Chris was off, and unfortunately he had to contend with some rider traffic, yet he still landed a remarkable time of 2:47.6. Chris sat in the hot seat for 78 riders, and lost the lead by only.8 seconds, bumping him to third overall.

Intense/Fox rider Joel Panozzo also had a great weekend; taking the number 4 spot behind Kovarik, look for some great racing this year from Joel as well. Honorable mention goes out to Intense Factory Support Rider April Lawyer, who despite not making the podium due to a terrible crash on the course brought herself to the finish line like a champion.

Thanks goes out to all of our sponsors for getting us on the podium yet once again! Look for our factory racing effort to continue as our team makes it way across the continent to contend in the UCI World Cup at Mt. St-Anne.
