Being a flat lander, I've never had the opertunity to make the drive to Mission B.C. for the infamous Bear Mtn. Challenge. But since relocating to Chilliwack back in February, I really had no excuse not to be there. I chose to skip Saturday's XC race, as well I don;t know any XC racers out here that well. So up early and off to Bear Mtn. Sunday morning then.

Since I mentioned that I do not know any XC riders here, I feel the need to mention that I do XC ride myself and did do a loop of the course first thing upon arrival. Holy it was a challenge and if any of you Albertans are feeling strong next year, well then make the drive, you won't be dissapointed by this course.
The DH race attracted some 300 competitors on this fine Sunday morning and that is a feat all to itself. Day licenses are a must in all provinces, as they allow riders to experience racing without having to spend all the money on a full season license. It was good to see even a few Alberta DH racers made the trip out to play.
Races of this caliber don't happen with out serious volunteer work and backing from surrounding businesses. It was good to see bike companies like Norco and Cove out support races like this.
