Red Bull District Ride in Nuremberg, Germany Sept. 23rd and 24th

Aug 20, 2005
by Tyler Maine
Last year’s Ride to the Lake taking place in the old city of Meersburg was a successful event debut for Cory Moore and Tarek Rasouli.
This year the two Freeride Specialists want to go real big. They are planning the next ultimate urban freeride event together with Red Bull. They looked at several locations all over Germany searching for a city, which can be conquered by the international Freeride Pros. Tarek Rasouli and Cory Moore were searching for a beautiful scenery for an urban Freeride Contest in "good old Germany“. So they wanted Old Castle walls, ramparts and Draw bridges as well as half-timbered buildings.Nuremberg, the city of gingerbread and bratwurst (sausages) is the final location. Nuremberg is with 500,000 citizens definitely a world famous city and with their huge “Christkindl Market” they attract every year millions of visitors from all over the world.

The “Kaiserburg” - the landmark of Nuremberg, which the Emperor Barbarossa chose as residence in the mediaeval times - will be the start of the Urban Freeride Contests.
When Cory peaked over the castle wall on top of Nuremberg, he knew: “That’s it! This place is fantastic. Here we got the road gap down the castle wall. About 10 Meters (30ft) down and 8 Meters (25ft) out. Sick!”
After convincing the city, the real planning for the “Red Bull District Ride” began.

The Contest – The Red Bull District Ride

This year on September 23rd/24th there will be 27 Mountainbike Riders from at least 10 different Countries. Among the confirmed riders are Kyle Strait (USA), Cedric Gracia (France), Cameron McCaul (USA), Greg Minnaar, Timo Pritzel (Germany), Kyle Ebbett (USA), Nathan Rennie (AUS), Paul Basagoitia (USA), Wade Simmons (Canada), Darren Berrecloth (Canada) and more of the world’s best freeriders. The riders will show their skills on a real demanding urban freeride course. The start of the course will be in the castle’s inner ward. The riders will have different gaps down the castle wall to continue into the old part of Nuremberg. The Course features different Districts with all kinds of obstacles like street ramps, north shore ladders, road gaps and much more. The riders will finish with insane tricks over the 3 sets of dirt jumps right in front of the marketplace.

The judges will see tricks like 360s, Backflips, Tailwhips, trick combos and great style. So the riders will show the world how big they can go on their 26” Bikes.

Event Schedule

The training and first qualifying is planned for Friday September 23rd. On Saturday there will be the 2nd qualifying, followed by the 2 final runs in the afternoon. The competition ends Saturday evening and afterwards the riders will be ready to party with their fans.

The TV- Production and international distribution will make sure that not only people of Nuremberg will see the world’s biggest Mountainbike City Event, but people around the world will have a chance to check out the freeride spectacle on TV.
