Butler Update From Norco

You have certainly seen all the press recently, so you know that Darren Butler (Factory Team rider and Team Manager) was injured on Monday August 26th while filming in Kamloops BC. As the mainstream press seem to be blowing this way out of proportion, and there is some incorrect information floating around, we thought we would like to take this opportunity to update and clarify you all out there on what happened and how he's doing.
The accident happened in the Kamloops area while filming for the new TV show Drop In for Sportsnet TV. Following a warm-up and an assessment of the take off and transition, Darren was all set to go and fully confident to nail the drop/road gap. Unfortunately, just prior to the take off area, the trail gave way causing his bike's front wheel to wash, which forced him to make a split second decision to jettison his bike and try to still make the transition; however, Darren landed two feet short of the tranny, on the far edge of the road before tumbling down the steep slope tranny.

The bad news is he has sustained injuries to his heels, some bones in his feet and ligaments, and is still currently recovering in the Kamloops hospital. Darren will be moved down to the lower mainland shortly where he will have to undergo reconstructive foot surgery by an orthopedic specialist.

The good news is, he will fully recover and be able to walk and ride within a few short months.

Darren wants everyone to know that he's doing well, and that the hospital staff and food has been top notch (we think he may be on too many drugs if he thinks this…).

Being true to his nature, he is already chomping at the bit to get out riding, and get back to his regular day job here at Norco setting up our 2003 Factory Team.

Keep the well wishes and healing vibes coming to darrenb@norco.com. He will be checking and answering his e-mails as soon as he is able to.
