AUDIO INTERVIEW INSIDE

According to Kris Gack, founder of Gack USA, building bikes is a pain – especially quality American made ones. Riders want more options than ever to personalize their style and image of riding. Long, short, light, durable, with mounts, without mounts, 20” wheels, 24’s, and 26’s too. The only consistent thing is the color – black along with a few random others. Looks like Kris puts up with the pain for your riding pleasure, because Gack USA showcased a very impressive lineup of bikes, bars and pedals.

Available now as a frame, kit or complete bike, the Speed Demon and Speed Demon EL Slalom/Dirt Jump frames showed nice attention to detail. The Speed Demon retails at just $429US, while the EL comes in just under $600US with headset. True to his BMX roots both frames feature horizontal dropouts with integrated disc mounts. Top and down tubes are constructed of Columbus NivaChrome double butted tubing, and v-brake bosses are optional on both models while ISCG mounts and integrated headset are standard on the 5 pound EL frame. Custom sizes, colors, options and builds are just a phone call away, and Kris would be more than happy to put up with some pain for your pleasure.

Currently in development, Gack’s prototype DH/Freeride bike is constructed of 4130 cromoly tubes, and can best be described as a simplified Brooklyn TMX. The single pivot design uses twin pulleys at the swingarm pivot to neutralize chain torque on the drivetrain. The pulleys run on sealed bearings connected to the main frame on a 4130 steel spindle, and both share the same tooth count making gear selection a simple matter of choosing chainring.
Price on the frame with Romic damper and pulleys should be around $1950Us, and a burly, DH/Freeride ready rig will come in well under $5000US.

Four cromoly bars are offered for the mountain bike market, available in with 1.75, 2.5, 3.25 and 4.25 inch rises. The Juggernaut pedals feature CNC’d 6061 platforms with stainless steel allen bolt traction screws and 14mm hollowed 4130 spindles with 3 sealed bearings per pedal. A scaled down Micronaut version is in the works for early 2003.
