by Atherton Racing

In episode 36 of Atherton Diaries, Gee headed out to Northern Ireland for his last race of the season. He took to the hill with fellow Red Bull racers, Greg Callaghan and Loic Bruni. The aim of the game... overtake as many of the 550 riders as he can.

Madness. That pass where Gee overtook two dudes in the air!

Yeah, That was a nice shot.

Honestly if you seen the line into that, it just looks impossible. Gee is one of the only riders that ever hits it and somehow he hits a large rock and launches the bike in the air.

Where else and what other sport do you get the opportunity to absolutely send it down a mountain with 3 of the worlds best and 550 amateurs on the same track at once. Knarly track, great craic, massive crowd, views for miles, and everyone having a gas.....then the world champ flies past you laughing! Would do it again this weekend again.

Megavalanche would be the closest thing.

 0:43 was gnarly.

The best is that his fork doesn't even bottom out. Mental.

Pretty much that whole thing was freaking gnarly!

That must be one of the best movements I´ve seen on a bike. Gee must be the nº1 feat for brand engineers avoiding cracked frames... It quite remembered me his move on the Rampage 10 years ago but at smaller scale having to turn immediately is nuts.

Notice how Gee isn't even looking at the landing, he's already got his eyes beyond it past the catch berm.
  • 2 0
Yeah - in slow motion you can see how subtle the movement of the bike is and how he sets up the angle of both the trail and the slope of the landing. Next level.

I've injured myself in three of the last four of these (temporarily dislocated/stretched out hip was a bit painful this year!). Best day on a bike ever though. Course is pretty gnarly in places

Then they all had testosteroni pizzas!

How much was liability insurance again?

Don't worry princess, they all had a layer of bubblewrap under their jerseys so the insurers gave them a nice discount.

I went over for the second time in row, and I had the most amazing time racing this race. I severely bruised my ribs during practice on Saturday, so I didn't go all out for the race. Last year I ran along side of the course in the tall grass when we got jammed up after the Red Bull bridge, this year no energy to do that as it was hard to breath. I decided to get down the mountain safe and have as much fun as possible. I accomplished that in spades. I am going back next year for year three. I encourage anyone who is slightly interested in this race to do it. Take care, BostonDon

In typical American fashion, what was meant to be a compliment was taken as an insult. Whatever.

@kingtut87: Very touchy subject in these parts Wink depends who you talk to, haha I used to manage the rental and shuttle service in this trail centre, so I know where it is, don’t worry Smile

@scary1: I read it as a compliment! This event is so good, did it on my hardtail 2 years ago! google Irish people’s views on the English and uk though, no bigger insult to an Irish person then to call them uk Smile

I am surprised some fights do not happen with all the Adrenalin. I suppose it is testament to how cool this community is.

I noticed all the Atherton's run the Renthal alloy bar instead of carbon. Strong hands!
  • 2 0
I noticed most of the pros like Gwin, Hart, Bruni, etc. run alloe bars rather than carbon onoe. These guys are seriius.
