The Nomads, Chris Johnston and Dylan Wolsky race the three day Santa Cruz NZ Enduro in Marlborough Sounds, New Zealand. Featuring first hand experience and interviews from riders during this unique New Zealand adventure! Marlborough Sounds is a collection of ancient sunken river valleys filled with the waters of the Pacific Ocean. Forested hills rise steeply from the sea around an intricate coastline of sheltered inlets and sandy bays.

DAY 1

Day 1 NZ Enduro starter Briefing
Riders meet at Whites Bay for registration and race briefing. Organiser Ian Goldschmidt gives the competitors a run down of the day and let's riders self seed.

Whites Bay Day 1 NZ Enduro
The perfect spot to finish up a days racing. Riders hung out at the beach for a swim and body surf before heading back to their accommodations.

DAY 2

NZ Enduro Day 2

An early start to catch a shuttle to the top of Nydia Bay trail. These trails are predominately hiking trails so the riding is very technical and had a few unrideable sections. It was very challenging to race them, the saying 'Slow is fast' was definitely the best way to tackle these technical trails. Many riders found their limits and found themselves off the side of the track tangled in the thick vegetation.

Even the liaisons proved a challenge to ride, with plenty of roots and rocks to hop over.

NZ Enduro Day Two Lunch
Definitely one of the best lunches we have had on any bike ride. The Nydia Bay lodge made a BBQ lunch for all the riders consisting of grilled Tuna and venison burgers with all the fixings and salads to match.

The NZ Enduro is not an all inclusive event, so competitors organised their own accommodation, transport and meals. We cooked our own meals most nights. Havelock local and Bluemoon backpackers owner Shane showed us some spots where we could pick our own fresh fruit.

We were warned about this particular corner and section of trail in Nydia Bay at race briefing.

DAY 3

Helicopter Drop day three NZ Enduro
Day three was the day everybody was most excited for. What a way to start a day of racing!

Day three NZ Enduro Heli Drop
The weather couldn't have been much better for the helicopters to fly. Riders were rewarded with some unreal views on the way to the top of the Wakamarina track.

Stage 2 was one of the best trails we've ever ridden. It dropped 700+ meters through the ferns. Good flow and perfect dirt.

NZ doesn't have any predators as such but there's plenty of wildlife.

NZ Enduro After Party
Riders converged on the rural canvas town pub for prize giving. Jamie Nicoll takes the win in the open men and Anne Caroline Chausson for the open women.
