Bell Built East Voting Still Open

May 14, 2014
by Bell Bike Helmets
Doe Mountain Recreation Area, Mountain City, TN

Trail Type: Flow
Sponsor: Sorba-Tri Cities

The Doe Mountain Recreation Area is planning a mountain biking mecca on hundreds of acres of dedicated space. The plan for mountain biking includes several miles of beginner trail and will serve as an entrance to the main mountain biking complex. The first beginner trail is under construction. The second part features construction of a flow trail on “Flow Mountain.” This trail will be the centerpiece of the project, one that immediately gives the visitors to the DMRA a reason to come back!

Holiday Valley Ski Resort Trail, Ellicottville, NY

Trail Type: Flow
Sponsor: Western New York Mountain Biking Association (WNYMBA)

The proposed project is a 2-mile flow trail from the summit of Holiday Valley Ski Area to the lodge near the Sky High Adventure Park. It would be intended to be the first phase of a larger program to develop more fun and sustainable trails at the Holiday Valley Ski Area to complement the existing cross country trail network in the adjacent state forest. Mountain biking always has, and will remain, free to the public at Holiday Valley. Currently, the top of the area is bike accessible by a gated road (part paved, part gravel), and also by a longer cat-track access road and singletrack loop. The top of the area is also accessible by car for shuttling runs.

Richmond Regional Ride Center, Richmond, VA

Trail Type: Flow
Sponsor: RVA MORE

This project will seek to rehabilitate 15 miles of existing mountain bike trail and construct an additional 20 miles of trail. The goal is to incorporate approximately 15 miles of stacked-loop singletrack, and an additional 5 miles of flow trail which will focus on a progression of difficulty. The project will also focus on improving the existing trails on-site in order to diversify the trails and improve the overall depth of experience within the system. In addition to these singletrack trails, the project seeks to develop a new gateway trail with two loops suitable for novices, children, handcycles, and bicycles pulling child-trailers.

Vote Now

Yellow River Bike Park, Atlanta, GA

Trail Type: Bike Park
Sponsor: Gwinnett Area Area Trail Riders (GATR SORBA)

Yellow River Park and its trails, features, and facilities has the potential to create an impact in Atlanta and showcase what mountain biking should be. Currently, the park offers a ‘mixed bag’ experience with many miles of wonderful singletrack intertwined with poorly designed and maintained trails offering a low quality riding experience. Improvements to the facility’s trail design and navigation, along with the addition of a skills area and/or pump track could make this a marquee metropolitan destination and potentially open the world of mountain biking to many thousands of local citizens.

Vote for RVA RideCenter!!! There is a great mtn bike community in Richmond and strong grassroots support for things cycling! The trails that will be added to Pocahontas State Park will make Richmond a destination in our region and even the east coast. Trails will also accommodate all ability levels giving everyone from the beginner to expert riders some stoke! Great job Bell for providing such a unique opportunity for localities to promote mtn biking in such a positive, proactive, and community engaging way!

Also, we are hosting the 2015 UCI Wold Champs here next year, and this new system would showcase our city in an amazing way!!

I really hope Richmond gets this. I love seeing how Richmond is trying to expand its biking community!

Holiday Valley! Such a fun ski/board spot, would be amazing if they built this 2 mile flowy decent trail for the summers

And maybe someday they will decide to spin their lifts for us! I voted for them and I would be stoked if they won

I do live in Richmond... but the reason I voted for Richmond Ride Center is due to their affiliation with Paralyzed Veterans of America and consideration for those that are differently abled. The Richmond Ride Center's proposal goes beyond the wants and needs of mountain bikers. It really is a community driven endeavor.

oinkideas, thanks for picking up my error in forgetting to mention the PVA!...apologies. To my knowledge, this will only be the second RideCenter location in the country to have a handcycling specific trail as well as a facility dedicated to fitting paralyzed cyclists with the proper equipment!

Population and travel time are key factors in my vote. As much as I want to vote for some trail that my club supports, I know that the only time we ever ride there is when we've got a whole weekend to kill. Meanwhile, the trails that are 10 from my house get closed. We need more urban trails near population centers.

Also, be sure to check out Dominion RiverRock this weekend! Redbull will be premiering their Berm Burners event and there will be other great events and music featured! www.dominionriverrock.com

Doe Mountain can really use this grant as well. The DMRA was saved from logging and development by the state and local government to be a new recreational area. We are building the area's first full-on flow trail and have a plan for 30+ miles of trail for the park when finished. This recreation area will be the MAIN source of economic development for an area with a very high unemployment rate.

Vote for Atlanta. Where I live(Tennessee) there is not very many freeride/flow trails or dirt jumps. Having a place like yellow river park would be cool because it's some place where I can go and have dirt jumps and skills courses.

holy crap. I just started mountain biking last year, and I think my head would explode if Holiday Valley won! Do it for the newbie!

i live closest to new york so at first i wanted to vote for that one, but i would vote for the location that its needed most.
of these locations which one 'needs' more mtb trails?

The RideCenter will include facilities that will cater to individuals with disabilities. The Paralyzed Veterans of America is part of the project and they'll be building specialized hand cycling trails. There's only a few of their kind in the country.
  • 4 2
thats a no brainer then. anything for the veterans, i hope everyone else feels the same way.
  • 4 1
holiday valley can't you build your own 2 whole miles? I've blazed new singletrack solo longer than 2 miles wa wa
  • 3 3
I voted for Atlanta because i hear there's not much riding in the south and i know there's a lot in the north. plus it's a park not a flow trail. too many flow trails nowadays.
  • 2 2
Ellicottville all the way. With all the Canadiens that come down for the weekend it would be a hit. WNYMBA does an awesome job with local trails already and this would add to them and be something we don't have.

Could they have made voting any more complicated? make a selection, enter en email and code, receive and open email, click confirmation link…. holy hell.
  • 1 0
vote for tennesse we got da best meth around! really helps ma skillz in tha 2 wheller
  • 4 3
Ellicotville needs it bad. We have nothing here like that.
  • 3 3
yea but you can get in your car and drive to multiple bike parks. the veterans who have given everything for this country and its people deserve their own trails. if you really think you deserve it more i feel sorry for you.
  • 2 4
Nah I feel sorry for you because your probably one of the many that support all this war and bs.
  • 3 2
...war and bs is why we have this freedom and the internet we enjoy today. You want your trail, i say get out there and get support for it, best of luck!
  • 2 3
We would have internet regardless of the war. All I'm saying is that bell should have put four veterans parks in the running together . It's not fair and nobody stands a chance against va. You think they don't get a ton of money already from organizations. I'm out there like crazy but what's the point. We all knew who would win this one from day one
  • 1 1
war is why we have internet. whoa.
