The brand name of iconic UK bicycle component manufacturer, Middleburn Cycle Components has been bought by another cycle component manufacturer, Staffordshire based BETD Cycle Components. Hampshire based Middleburn are well known amongst custom bike builders and enthusiasts for their sought after cycle components which include retro-style, British made, chainrings and cranksets. The company went into voluntary liquidation in September after ceasing to trade in August.

BETD acquire Middleburn Cycle Components.

The brand will now live on thanks to the acquisition by BETD who are part of the KMF Group, specialists in precision sheet metal and precision engineering products. BETD Managing Director, Kate Lewis commented: "We are delighted to be able to keep the Middleburn brand alive. We shall manufacture and continue the supply of many of their iconic products and will also be able to increase their availability through our existing online store and growing trade accounts."

KMF Group is one of the largest privately owned engineering firms in the Midlands. It employs over 450 in its state of the art factories in Newcastle-under- Lyme and at a manufacturing facility in Slovakia. KMF Group managing director, Gareth Higgins said: "BETD are now an established part of our group supported by a fully integrated suite of our precision engineering facilities. The business will continue to grow leveraging off group functions such as marketing, logistics, and finance."

"I would like to assure all former customers of Middleburn Cycle Components that we will continue to supply their sought after components, manufactured to the same exacting standards that customers expect. We also now have the exciting opportunity to add new products to the portfolio backed up by our first class customer service."

Cheers for the very kind comments guys and to say we are pleased about acquiring Middleburn is an understatement to say the least. We have been contacted all day about how we must keep it going and producing quality products and hopefully developing new ones as soon as we can. Thanks for your support and here's to a bright future for more British manufactured parts.

No one has commented? Wow, well I think it great middleburn aren't to die. They maybe relatively niche but they have their market.

With you on that, its great news they have survived. Modernise the brand and product while staying true to the original plan and they will have some good items.

Couldn't of thought of a better company to take over for Middleburn, both have this old school UK engineering vibes going on and were both important in the early days of the UK scene.

Rode Middleburn cranks back in the day, where great but got left behind with all the new BB standards and the advent of cheap/reliable Hollowtech style cranks. They would need to do a Cinch/modular style crankset with all the corresponding BB's, one size fits all cranks are the way forward.

Middleburn used to be the tits, loved the single ring RS7 cranks I had back in the day, so light and relatively stiff for weight compared to the competition, lets not forget the sexy slim curves, beautifully made product, a real special premium feel to everything they made. Still got a lot of love for them today but considering the price vs performance, just couldnt justify compared to competition.
I dont think they really moved with the times, then again i dont think they ever had the big budget to be able to keep up with the fast moving market of the 00's, which was a shame, but it was always nice that they kept true to there identity.

Very happy to see that they have been saved from the brink by another highly respected british engineering company, BETD/Goldtec components also graced my bikes back in the day with great solid reliability.

Well good luck to them. It's amazing how fast Middleburn fell off the radar, their Hardcoat chainrings and cranks used to be part of the single speed uniform. Hopefully BETD can get them back up to where the name should be.

Betd did the bushings for the gt idrive from the late ninties didnt they? I remember driving to the factory just to get some bushings for my gt idrive and some kind chap pressed them in for me for no extra charge.

Great news to hear that they're being kept alive!
I still run RS7s on my intense 5.5, hanging of a Hope square taper titanium BB - New standards? Hah!

Hopefully the narrow wide direct mount rings will still be a thing.

I've always liked middleburn stuff, well made long lasting..but it was starting to look seriously dated.

Still a market for this kind of stuff. Think steel hard tails, thin tubes, Middleburn stuff compliments that kind of thing perfectly.

@aljoburr: Well that's a positive so far! I'd like to sell the bike related BETD products including middleburn, and or any construction based components as my background is based there?
