Video: Beyond the Bike with Steve Smith

Jan 21, 2015
by Lacy Kemp

In the world of downhill racing there are two kinds of racers: riders that were born into that world of speed and riders that weren’t. The differences dissolve as their experience grows, but the foundation on which they’re built never goes away. White collar vs. blue. Factory-made vs. self-made. Purebred vs. mudblood. Steve Smith (or Stevie – it doesn’t matter) fits the latter group. He was born into a world that had nothing to do with mountain biking, but everything to do with deep love, endless drive and a few key people that saw something incredibly special in him. Read the full story.

Lat years winner Steve Smith is oh so close but still has a little work to do in order to be back on top. With a 6 week break before the next round you can be sure the chainsaw will be firing on a cylinders in Mont-Ste-Anne.

This guy is literally an inspiration itself, to think of that he managed to ride wiith his mom, hoping that he one day would ride along with some of his idols, and now to think of that he actually is above many of them, jesus christ!

Can everyone stop talking about Jesus Christ, this is pinkbike.... not christian mingle.
  • + 3
Jesus loves you. He loves haters, gay, comfortable and gluten intolerant - he's a light in the darkness for those who do extreme sports, showing them way out of their selfishness. He's a source of morality for those who worship their own false persona, lost in social media and instagram hellpit of vanity.

Wow. Nice video of a great story of a pretty typical Canadian guy with loads of talent and the drive to put it all on the line. Sweet shots of Prevost and Tzouhalem, just a couple of our favourite rides on Vancouver Island.

I'm PRAYING to the mountain gods or redbull for a healthy Steve Smith, Sam Hill, Gwin, Geeman, to race down Dan's Hardline course, and if they are feeling generous, maybe include Ratboy, Troy, Danny Hart, and Loic.
  • + 3
Ya, be generous and invite the guy who won last year (D. Hart).

Anyone remember his part in the Seasons dvd? He did exactly what he said he'd do. One of the best riders in the world imo, his style is just so focused and calculated. Huge inspiration for sure!
