Big Mountain Enduro

Big Mountain Enduro kicked of the 2014 season in Snowmass, Colorado. With a heavy winter, things were tight to get the mountain ready in time, but the tireless crew of Snowmass made it happen. Stop number one of the series had two days and 7 stages of racing. After it was all said and done there was some incredibly tight racing, especially in the pro men's field. Kyle Warner proved you don't need 150mm of travel to win a competitive enduro race as he edged out last year's series winner Nate Hills. On the women's side of things, Brittany Clawson blew away the rest of the field finishing a commanding 1:30 ahead of Margret Gregory in second. With the race being sold out, 300 riders arrived in Snowmass for a weekend of racing fun.

Nate Hills was the man to beat all weekend after winning the series overall last season. After nearly an hour of timed racing Nate was edged out of first by 12 seconds.

I was at the race this weekend, had a bad blow out on stage 1 that destroyed my carbon wheel (pics in my album). Stage 7, Bonzai DH, was pretty gnarly and for Warner to do it on a 100mm travel bike is freakin MENTAL, I wouldve paid to see him hit some of those sections.

When I started riding I watched guys like Jimmy Deaton rock the Kamikaze at Mammoth Mountain on bikes with like 2" of travel... The best can kill these courses on anything. The crutches are so the rest of us can have a little more of the fun too. Smile
