PRESS RELEASE: Bike Big White

After the coolest spring in recent memory Big White simply still has too much snow and has made the decision to delay bike park opening day to Thursday July 7th.

“Our entire operations team including our trail crew have been working tirelessly to hit our target summer opening date of June 30th but unfortunately mother nature had other plans,” says Andrew Daly, Sales Director at Big White Ski Resort.

Warmer weather is in the forecast this week which will speed up the snow melt and ensure the bike park is ready for the revised opening date, Thursday July 7th. On a positive note, the delay means that a significant portion of the bike park will be open from day one and the dirt will be in perfect shape from top to bottom.

Despite this delay, there’s plenty for people to look forward to this summer: Our Toonie Race Series, BC Cup at Big White and Freeride Days to name a few.

Bike Park Summer Operating Hours:

Sunday 10am – 5pm

If any Vernon locals had some intel about what they think Silver Star will be like on the 24th (scheduled opening date) I would sure appreciate it!

The weather this week is supposed to be good, currently there's very little snow on the hill (you can check for yourself on the webcams too) and the 24th is meant to be a sunny day

@Bikerdude137: Thanks for your reply! I thought the weather was looking really good this week, but it can be hard to tell how much snow is left in the woods, or if things are running really wet. Good idea about checking the webcams, I hadn't thought of that. Thanks again!

Rode Soveirgn this morning. Still 1-2 feet of snow cover the majority of the upper trails. The park trails are even higher, so I would temper expectations. Lots of spring runoff going on.

That being said, SS park crew is one of the best, so I’d imagine it will be fun, though maybe a bit soupy.

@sheldonuvic: Great beta; thanks very much! That's what I was worried about. It's expensive enough to drive out to places now that it makes me really want to wait for good conditions.
