Bike Check: Ethan Nell & Dylan Stark's YT Tues Freeride Bikes - Proving Grounds 2021

Sep 11, 2021
by Ed Spratt

This weekend sees a stacked list of the top freeriders taking on the huge Proving Grounds course. YT has unveiled fresh rigs they have sent over to Ethan Nell and Dylan Stark to take on the big hits at Oregon Dirt Park. While both riders are running the same frames and suspension, the similarities end there. Ethan is running a singlespeed setup with Stans Flow wheels and Michelin's DH34 tires. Dylan's bike is running E13's LG1R wheels and a geared setup instead of the single gear that Ethan prefers. Both riders have Fox suspension front and rear, but Ethan has removed the logo for a stealthy look. Check out some of the details and differences below.

I love how Pinkbike is reporting on Dylan's bike like it isn't literally dead stock 27.5 Pro Tues. The only reason the tires are different is because Stark goes through about 2 tires every session. I don't think I've ever seen a rider just take what's given to him and shred it as hard as Dylan does. He doesn't piss about with 5mm this and 5mm that. If anything MTBs are very frustrating to a BMXer who used to tossing a bike on street and not having to fix a single part afterwards. Hope he adjusts to top tier free ride courses well because over rotations at 20-30-40 or even 50 feet are no bueno...

Funny how the best the game has to offer still ride 27.5 wheels and even 26 in some cases. Not that I don't get it but it's just sad to see the industry pushing 29 almost exclusively at this point. Some people actually have the ability to handle a bike instead of just go fast in a straight line and there are little options for them. The sport is losing its soul.

Dylan's working-man approach to ripping hard in and on whatever he can get flowed is super refreshing. Pulling for that dude!!

I've been rocking a mini mullet about 5 seasons now, i think it's the best combo! Had a 29/27.5, it's not the same, the 29 is just so big and the difference between 29 and 27.5 it's pretty big compared to 27.5/26.

If you really like to work a bike and feel the terrian 27.5/26 is money!

Didn’t Ethan bell loose his squish sponser last year and not get another?

Yeah pretty sure, doesn't make sense for him to be rocking codes with fox. Sincerely doubt it's for 'a stealthy look'

Fox is huge on making sure the freeride guys use the old outdated bomber crap so they can sell them. So I don’t ethan would be the only one on fox. @mackay66:
