Red Bull Hardline is certainly a track to keep mechanics busy... or is it? We find out and show off some of the steeds we found tucked away in Hardlines less than conventional stable.

Gareth brewin. Drives for trek yet rides a Santa Cruz? No free treks for staff?? Bad form...
  • 35 3
Or atleast a discount! Come on trek
  • 62 5
we are free to decide our own gear at Trek you know, not a sect
  • 52 8
@tuboy95: But why would he swap that SC for a Trek, even if it was free?
  • 57 2
Maybe it's a blessing. Already 3 identical sessions boring up the page!
  • 17 3
Even when I was a spotty youth working at a bike shop in 1996, Cannondale went further than most to get staff on their bikes with IIRC 40% discount. It was pretty compelling to save £700 on the price of an F2000 back when I was earning £20 a day.

Maybe the Trek discount isn't as good, or he's not bothered.

V10 is a nice bike, especially in this colour. Not a good advert for Trek though!
  • 4 0
@BenOnTrek: I get that. Thought that working for a big brand and being a talented rider they'd offer a bike or frame. Maybe they did and he rejected I don't know?!
  • 5 1
@Dav82: it could be that trek uk is not trek, just another company with the distribution rights, and they don't think giving him a bike would give them ROI, and he already has a V10
  • 2 0
Answer to the mystery is down below!@jaame:
  • 5 0
@jaame: it would be a good of Trek to offer him a 40% discount Utah and even better idea for Santa Cruz to offer a 50% discount!

A local optometrist offer FREE lasik to the employees at the eye glass store. That's genius right there.
  • 5 0
@tuboy95: No idea how proforms with MTB's work but I could totally see a Trek Session with proform deals still costing more than a mid/entry level Capra Tues/Commencal Furious.
  • 3 2
Maybe the v10s a better bike in his taste?
  • 1 0
What mud guards are the Trek bikes using?
  • 2 0
Could consider the fact he had a Santa Cruz hook up, a guess, before and he's used to the bike and the trek hook up is not affordable at current!
  • 2 0
@feeblesmith: Maybe that Trek holds up more than three rides...would be a reason for me ????
  • 1 0
 I’m curious also
  • 3 0
I think it’s the Powa products Dfender @gonecoastal:
  • 1 0
Trek def hooks up there actual employees, race teams ects. Bike shop employees too to some extent. But take it from me. I worked at a trek shop and got the best "VIP store discount". I ride the bike I wanted because we had it in the store then I got to demo a tracer... I bought the tracer. Paid more (slightly) for a lower spec and couldn't be happier. I'm gunna guess he's thinking the way I did. Ride the better bike

Works at Trailhead, gets cheap Santa Cruzs.
  • 1 0
@Noypirider: looks like those are the ones. Might not work with them being fork specific. Too bad
  • 2 0
@freeridejerk888: the tracer had the best back end of any bike I have ever tested
  • 2 0
 @gonecoastal: @Noypirider

It is the Defender, I've got one. I looks cool and the mounting is brilliant. Certainly does the job.

However, the way it is designed it channels quite a lot of crap exactly where the stanchions go into the lowers,
shortening the service time by quite a lot.

I hope they sort it out in newer versions.

Gareth Brewin works part time for the Atherton's driving the big truck around European World Cups so maybe no more than several weeks a year.
He also mechanics for Gee when rallying.
His Santa Cruz came from his sponsor/shop deal with Sandy Plenty's Trailhead in Shrewsbury.

Cheers for the info. Definitely a work hard play hard kinda guy!

 gazzy b is a madman!
  • 2 0
Gazzy B is one of the earth's finest shredders, and it seems he can drift a car quite well by the looks of a bigger slice of british pie. thanks for the info si-paton

  • 4 1
@nfontanella: then what would you do for a Klondike bar
  • 19 0
He rides/rode for a shop. Trailhead. Which is a Santa Cruz shop
  • 2 0
That would explain it! Thanks for the input.
  • 13 1
Sad to see no one rocking an enduro bike with a chain guide and dropper. Ya know, full Chuck Norris-ing it.
  • 24 0
Nobody thought to invite Sam Hill

I think we’re looking at different Redbull Hardline courses if you think an enduro bike is appropriate
  • 6 1
@dancingwhale: But this is sam hill we're talking about... World champs isnt "enduro appropriate" but hey!
  • 4 2
@dancingwhale: I think we're looking at different jokes if you think your comment is appropriate

Zee on Kaos' bike? Not enough money for Saint?
  • 4 0
he needs the weight to recover momentum faster man... they though about it... ; )
  • 1 0
I noticed this earlier in the year. Wonder if he'll get Saint when he moves up to Elite..?
  • 2 0
Elites get saint and Juniors get zee so shimano can show that It's all world cup worthy.
  • 3 1
@RRMonster: which is funny that I am not world cup worthy but i've killed 3 zee derailleurs.

The beat themselves to death by hammering the lower limit screw to a mushroomed pile.

I run x9 now and have 0 issues
  • 6 0
Some quite heavy duty mud guarding going on here...I guess crap in your eye before a 60 foot jump is sub-optimal?
  • 7 0
 Al Bundy rides a GT?
  • 2 0
 Al Bond.....Jim's brother.
  • 5 0
Go for it Kaos.... Hell of a track for a young rider to take on. Mint looking Transition too!
  • 4 0
The Seagrave family sure knows about style!!!
  • 6 0
Best of those sessions you can fit a water botle
  • 6 0
Those other guys are screwed, no way to rehydrate mid-race run
  • 3 0
Not sure if I’m talking sh!t here but am I right or think other than last years winner(Kerr), none of the previous winners/runners up are racing?
  • 5 1
Are Santa Cruz and intense sister companies?
  • 6 0
I believe Intense is licensed under SC to use the VPP design
  • 4 0
@VPS13: Not anymore from what I was told. The patent for VPP has expired. That is why on some of the newer bikes you see variations and they call it "Steber Tuned Suspension" or something like that.
  • 3 0
@flippantride: Yup. It's called JS Tuned for Jeff Steber
  • 7 3
This weird Scott linkage feels like something heavily over-engineered.
  • 2 0
At the core it's just a linkage driven single pivot. All the fancy linkages inside the main triangle just tweak the leverage ratio curve to where the engineers want to it be.

I agree, there's probably a simpler linkage that can give 95% of the performance of the complex linkage they have now.
  • 4 0
 29er Gee?? You madman
  • 4 6
If he wins on that is the Internet a going to explode. Hardline being one of the most tricky track in the world you barely see a 29er ride down it Big Grin
  • 2 0
@RedBurn: thatd be a crazy comeback from a tough injury too
  • 1 0
@RedBurn: Im more intrrested to see his form on the bike than anything else
  • 3 0
What the hey is going on with Kerry's seat
  • 1 0
Anybody notice the different adjustment knobs on the Boxxers of Brayton's Scott and Brewin's v10? Is there a new version of the charger for the boxxer?
  • 3 0
Ohlins cartrages, braytons sopnsored, and going off brewins shock id say he has the same.
  • 1 0
@warbird971: interesting, why wouldn't they just run the ohlins fork?
  • 2 0
 Öhlins damper tech inside
  • 3 0
Full ohlins dh fork isn't production yet, also factory Specialized gravity has exclusivity with the fork because they are the sole testers. Some of these more freeride guys have been given TTX (twin tube) boxxer dampers. It actually uses a section inside the stanchion as its twin tube design and is fully nitrogen charged and bled. Ohlins made about 12 of them in total world wide. I have been told I have most likely the only one that has ever made it to public as ohlins has the rest of them all accounted for either on sponsored riders bikes or back at the factory. Its an amazing damper, it is noticeably more plush through out the stroke then a charger damper. I love mine! cant wait to see the full fork
  • 1 0
@qman11: thanks for the info! Do you have any experience with the charger vs an avalanche cartridge?
  • 2 0
The only experience i have with avalanche is feeling one in another persons totem. It felt good but have no experience actually riding it.
  • 1 1
Kaos Seagrave's chromed up Transition TR11 destroyed me totally, look at components, all riders have saints, hopes or srams x01 but he have shimano zee (zee isn't bad but saint better) i was so funny for me
  • 2 2
why is it "Chromed up" when no chrome visible.
  • 4 0
 Purple chrome decals dude @Helm72:
  • 2 0
Kerr's saddle is so far forward he might as well run an offset post - backwards!
  • 1 0
 Or just size down.
  • 2 0
I'd have a hard time choosing between that commençal and the transition.
  • 1 0
 Threaded bb
  • 2 0
The paint job on that M16c is top shelf!
  • 2 2
Yep, the top shelf is where they keep the solvents they sniffed before painting the thing...
  • 2 0
Some shoddy support stick photoshopping around here
  • 4 2
 Phoenix is so hot.
  • 7 1
Variety is great isn't it? To me, the Phoenix, especially in this colour, looks like a bag of nails. But you love it. That's awesome!
  • 2 0
 If it works, its beautiful
  • 2 0
Thought it was a cove for a minute.
  • 1 1
Is it just me or is the shock on the Transition much smaller than the others?
Unless it got really cold all of a sudden...
  • 2 1
zee brakes and cranks for Kaos, interesting.

  • 1 0

  • 1 0
Like the Kerr bike colour theme.
  • 1 0
What's that thing under the swingarm on the Atherton boys bikes?
  • 2 0
Pretty it's a stick holding the bikes up, that they've mostly edited out
  • 1 0
@andrew9: Don't know what you are on about Wink
  • 1 0
TR11 wins it all for me. That ride is beyond sick!
