Jul 21, 2021
by Nick Bentley
After the dust had settled at the UK National Downhill Championships at Rhyd Y Felin, we attempted to grab all the bikes of the newly crowned National Champions. However, as expected, trying to catch people during the excitement of winning a race of this magnitude it was a bit like herding cats. Although we did manage to catch eight of the newly crowned Champs for you to enjoy their downhill weapons of choice.

I think Atherton bike is best looking of them all. Lovely straight lines.
  • 7 0
 I agree, just gorgeous.
  • 8 0
Yep and now the Pivots have gone straighter - they look nicer too. Don't a fan of the beer belly of some of the others haha
  • 1 0
@thingswelike: I suppose shock placement plays a big part in it looking good. others having to work around the shock.
  • 8 1
It does look like a session though doesn't it
  • 11 3
Nah they are just scaffold poles stuck together
  • 5 0
I think I like the looks of the Saracen and the Canyon the most out of all of these.
  • 1 0
You mean people aren’t into the V10 welcome-to-the-lost-city-of-Atlantis curved down tube chariot look anymore?
  • 1 0
 @lowlightlowlife: a session circa 2008
  • 2 0
No love for the Jeckyll anyone? Tough crowd.
  • 1 0
@Jordmackay: I was thinking left over plumbing parts painted black

 That Cannondale is beyond grotesque.

Was thinking the same thing.... what happens when water bottle accommodation goes too far.
  • 3 0
 Seriously fugly.
  • 19 1
 is no7 a reverse mullet ???
  • 2 0
 24" front, 26" rear!
  • 3 1
Think its just that the wheel is slightly turned away. But had to have a second look haha
  • 2 1
 ...and the Tellum marketing begins!
  • 3 1
Front is an Assegai, and they only come in 27.5 & 29. Definitely looks a little off though.
  • 2 0
@joehollindrake: One can zoom in and see the front tyre is 27.5. Just a weird angle.
  • 1 1
Rear wheel is sitting higher up. Ground isn't level.
  • 1 0
Just call it a reverse mullet so that one guy can have an aneurysm
  • 1 0
 @jaame: ultimate xc setup
  • 10 0
Canyon Sender is just such a good looking frame
  • 12 2
 That Jekyll is a Munter
  • 5 0
 Munter.....funny story.......

Backyard drinks one Saturday lead to the girls "hunting for mint" to make Mojitos. Someone said, you guys should go "munting" (mint hunting).

It was then revealed (by urban dictionary) that "Munting" is entirely something of a different activity

Is it just the camera angle or has the mens masters pivot got a bigger wheel at the back?
  • 1 0
 Camera angle/ground angle
  • 1 0
Camera angle, they all look like they have a bigger rear
  • 3 0
Tyre logos and crank arms... Tut tut
  • 1 0
I would like to see the winning run done on that Jekyll. Must have been rowdy!!!!
  • 2 0
Is it just me or is the Jekyll downright hideous?
  • 1 0
Looks like the Jekyll hit all the ugly branches when it came out #sackthedesigner .
  • 1 0
i never got told about this Frown my bike is by far the best looking a 2016 trek session 9.9 it so nice
  • 1 0
Where are the water bottle mounts? These can't be real mountain bikes.
  • 1 2
the Saracen Myst has a quad piston rear and a dual piston front, I haven't seen any bikes setup like that recently in any world cups. (correct me if im wrong)
  • 2 0
you are wrong mate, both brakes are 4-piston
  • 1 2
@cisrtom: What are you on about mate it is clearly a dual piston XTR on the front
  • 1 0
@gabrielmedd1: XTR 4 pots front and rear.
  • 1 0
Whos the ghost holding all these bikes upright?
  • 3 2
 No men's Vets?
  • 1 0
 Last bike....
  • 1 0
@Afterschoolsports: photo says masters, 30plus. There was definitely some vets 40plus when we watched practice,
  • 3 0
Unfortunately the change to how podiums were done meant that I was still up the hill when the Vets had there podium. I did try and find the winners but couldn’t
  • 3 0
@Mandownmedia: Older men's Vets winner was Will Longden who was riding one of Matt's spare bikes so...
  • 3 0
John Cobb was half way home when the Elites came down (still pretty sure he picked up a Bronze and not Gold medal lol)
Will Longden borrowed a bike and smoked us.
  • 1 0
@Mandownmedia: thanx for the reply, only wanted to know cos I'm an old git meself
  • 1 1
that 35mm boxxer and those wheels, looks like a walmart bike
  • 1 0
  • 3 4
Is there some reverse Mullets going on there????
  • 2 0
No, just a little instagram influenced camera angles making the rear ends look larger. If you zoom in on the tires they are matched.
  • 1 2
@tkrug: Excellent. Like all bikes should have.
