Rachael knows what up and like her whip the best. Color any rig how you want, if you finish off the podium pretty sure sponsors are wondering why the elaborate paint job and who the hell is this guy in 34th place.
@Jokesterwild: Ironically I have been in marketing for over 20 years so ya I know about it. If I was a team sponsor would rather have a winner on a non nascar inspired rig layout than someone in 27th place that has their brake levers custom ano to match their undewears. At least that hideous Moonraker is seeing a few wins lately. Maybe they are smart enough to retain Hart next year.
It's my least favorite as it makes most of the bikes in the shops look plain ugly. I'm looking at the photos and I'm asking myself; "Impressive, now why can't the bikes you sell look like this?"
(I tried to reply to @fecalmaster's comment directly, but for some reason, I can't. Sorry if this appears to be a reply to the wrong person.) Not sure why all the downvotes for fecalmaster. "Win on Sunday, sell on Monday." Was true in the 60s, and still rings true today as far as I can tell.
Ever considered Gee's bike looks like hers instead?...! I'm bored to death of her winning but in the end she has far superceeded Gee so only fair to say her bike is the original.
@GabrielDugas: i couldn't agree more. Gee said on instagram they did it partly to safe weight. which i call bullshit on. a sick paintjob sure makes you faster. just as whipping makes Nino faster in XC races
@OldSkoolAK: What's with all the hate against the Athertons? They've been so supportive to the scene, to newer riders. They've all proven to be able to bounce back from injury which is impressive as well. At this point Rachel happens to be in shape and Gee is injured (don't know about Dan currently) and when they're in shape, they're doing well.
I've no doubt athletes can perform better when they've got a supportive home situation. As kids, this obviously includes siblings and parents, as older riders it shift towards others like partners and team members. In the womens DH field alone, look at it. Tracey with her brother Mick, Thanee with her brother Kaos, Manon with her dad Jason (who no doubt made it easier to get real close to the BDS thing). This should definitely have created an inspiring and supportive environment for them as kids, to get a head start. But as they're getting older, they draw their own plan and develop more independently.
That's because it dull and looks stock so therefore for you have nothing to say?! Certainly my opinion. Super plain looking compared to many. Maybe they thought he's just pissing away the season so why bother with a fancy paint job....
@Ziph: thats been the gossip and his riding language backs it up. He's a smart guy and knows that in todays world he can make a living not racing based on his fan base...by providing content we'll all want to consume.
Trying and failing to imitate the original Palmer Intense M1.. He maybe the most winningest American and maybe soon racer ever. But he'll never be a patch and Palmer. Credit where it's due he's phenomenal, but with as much character as a stagnant fart.
Thought trek would have gone ballsier on the paint jobs but fair play, understated is the new outlandish. Not keen on the orange coloured springs on custom painted bikes though!
I'm still wondering whether or not Rockshox will release sets of those Stevie Smith Boxxer decals (Finn's bike) to the public. Maybe a fundraiser for the foundation?
With the exception of perhaps the winners, the riders should auction off their bikes with money going to a charity nominated by the winner. Or for this time, a charity under Chainsaw's name.
Then I can re-mortgage the house and get my paws on Minnaar's carbonite wonder!!
I noticed tahnee's bike had a purple/pink rear coil on her fox..? An most or all other fox suspension riders had that orange..? How come they all didnt get color scheme.. o well, all the bikes are tits for sure!
Sooo. Trek have had Project One (go nuts custom colours for consumers) for quite some years now. Would you not think they make sure to go absolutely over the top and try to lead the custom bikes for worlds in order to promote that program? Seems like every company out there is doing a better job than Trek though. Gee's bike seems like an absolute zero f*%& were given approach to me... Sorry Trek.
The USA flag is a difficult one for teams to do well. Most designs for worlds, olympics, etc., are lame and end up looking cheesy. Hats-off to YT for really knocking it out of the park with Gwin's bike concept! I think it might be the nicest looking one of the bunch. And their treatment of the Spanish flag for Angel looks really nice, too. Good job, YT!
What happens to all these bikes after the WC? As bling as it is, and I can see the benefit of the marketing potential, it seems criminal to think they will all get used for like 4 days then hung up on a wall somewhere. Bikes are to be rode man
Anyone know why/what the idea or test behind gregs mechanic throwing the back end into the ground shows. Seen it in the last few syndicate videos. I think it might be something to do with judging the damping in the rear ??
@funbert: I asked in Cairns in April and this is what I was told. It has to do with landing slightly sideways off a jump or any air time. They're testing to see how the bike reacts from a slightly sideways impact - it shoots the bike forward from just hitting the ground and the suspension absorbing the impact. Marshy has so many little tricks!
I thought it was just taking the piss out of Greg, because in one of the Syndicate videos he switches spring rates on the night before one of the races, and to test it Greg was just throwing the bike onto the ground like you said. And since then they've always done it, and i've seen Mitch take the piss outta Greg for it as well on a vid on FaceBook.
gotta be a joke, right? i mean I wondered the same thing, but still, no rider, barely using the shock stroke; i think they are just f-ing with the world
Looks like Brayton & Hart had a meeting about paint schemes... Brosnan's bike is sick too. And Tanhee's oldschool metalic flake doesn't look bad either. Folks really went all out this year, I'm very impressed and quite a tad jealous.
Hey Aaron, once you get done winning world's, (and these pink bike haters get done down voting my post into oblivion) pm me, I'll send you an address to send me the whip.
Every bike looks special. Not the ones for the Germans... they look so off-the-shelf. Fischi's just green on green and Textor's bike has no personality. Damn, we need some bloody Young Talents...
Gwin's YT has alloy seat stays and adjustable chain stays, this is either the rear end from the 26er (which can take a 27.5) or a sign of what's to come for next years model? Either way, it's not stock.
We read how enduro bikes are killing the downhill bikes and will eventually replace them all. I am in awe looking over all of these bikes and knowing that enduro bikes owe their very existence to the over the top, pure and unadulterated insane technology in these downhill machines. I'll dream about these bikes tonight......the Santa Cruz graphics make me shiver.
Trek and Devinci really pulled out all the stops on their paint schemes. Just makes all the other bikes look so 'stock' ... fresh out of the 2017 catalogs.
Shwing!!!!!!! I love all of the bikes!!!!!! Best bike porn all season. Brayton deserves that Gambler, Moir's is sweet, Danny boy's is sexy but yeah, Rats does it for me.
The bikes that i would actually like to own and ride and not look like a douche on the trails are Markus, then Tahnee, then Gew then Angel. All the rest are beautiful works of art but will look weird on trails.
Bike porn OVERLOAD!!!!!
I literally had to stop, drink some water and collect myself every scroll. Hats off to the teams for the endless creative efforts, All the riders for throwing it down and PB for writing up such a high quality photo article. BRAVO!!!!!
That Bulls bike look pretty cool, the idler makes it appear like a Commencal. Indeed the linkage is very different but the same goes with everything that looks like a Session.
Been rockin the Red, White, and Black for my quiver (4 bikes, rotating) for 5 years now, nice to see so many jumping on board. Timeless combo. Like the green and orange stuff tho-
Just drooled down my shirt from the first pic... until i got to that table of Danny's goodness... i may have let a bit of pee out ! WTF ! one kidney selling loveliness... WANT WANT WANT..................... Mondraker for the win !!!!!!!
Pinkbike I'm very dissapointed. A lot of minors are browsing this website and you don't hesitate to post pornographical pictures here. This is just sad
I bet these guys derive so much pleasure from their crayons and coloring-in books during their downtime...And for some downtime means when they're not high.
good inspiration for my RC car bodies

Yeah, yeah, let the flood of neg votes roll in..
Bring back the candy bling..candy apple red
But Rachel's bike is clean as hell. Shoulda done black or orange pedals though... and orange instead of gold nipples.
Sick builds. How many of them are on aluminum frames?
Let's hear more about Braytons Öhlins equipped BOXXER!?!?!?!?
Brosnan's bike is sick too. And Tanhee's oldschool metalic flake doesn't look bad either. Folks really went all out this year, I'm very impressed and quite a tad jealous.
Gwinning Worlds!
I don't think "matte" means what you think it means.
