Unless you come from a ski or snowboard background, Bollé probably isn't the first name that pops into your head when you're thinking about helmets. They're hoping that will change with the introduction of their new Trackdown, an all-mountain lid that looks like it ticks all of the required boxes for that enduro look. First things first, though: the helmets pictured here are still prototypes, so their appearance may change slightly and official weight numbers aren't quite locked down yet.

The Trackdown is far more substantial looking than Bollé's other helmets, and there's also the extended coverage for the back of the head that you'd hope to see. Venting comes courtesy of fifteen openings, and Bollé also has a nifty "weather kit" package that includes two rubber blanking inserts (pictured below) that close off the top four chimney vents on the helmet. The idea is to keep the heat in and the rain or snow out, and the inserts snap into the vents to hold them in place. During testing, Bollé realized that installing and removing the weather kit repeatedly could actually damage the EPS foam shell, so they've employed barely visible plastic ring/lips at each of the four vents, and the blanks only make contact with those inserts rather than the foam shell.

The helmet's visor is a three-position job that can be moved by hand and without needing to loosen the mounting screws, and there's enough room underneath for either goggles or glasses. But not at the same time... obviously. To hold your glasses in place, the two vents below the visor and the two vents above it are shaped to grip ahold of sunglass arms firmly, and not just Bollé shades - they should hold any make or model.
The adjustable retention band is a Boa system that uses a single dial and wraps completely around the head, not just the back half, and there are also three height positions so you can get it just right for you.

Bollé plans to offer both a MIPS version that will sell for $169 USD as well as a non-MIPS model that will save you $30 USD, and they'll be eight color options when the Trackdown is available in early 2018.

Who ever designed it needs to be fired.

@fantaman: other than the weird choice of colours and the too-small-mannequin, it looks much the same as every other "trail" helmet out there. Yeah there's some gimmicks, but that's not surprising given that this is the bike industry... I don't really get the angst towards it?

@Socket: people need something to whine about..

I'd prefer something a bit more enduro.
  • 7 0
I feel it's a bit too enduro already, so I'm going to wait for the E-bike specific version.

Is it really that bad or did they just put it on a mannequin head that is 10% too small?
  • 10 0
I don't think it is the worst helmet I have seen but def does not look like it will breathe well.

Urge helmets look gorgeous when compared to this monstrosity.

Robocop called, he wants his helmet back.
  • 8 0
 Robocop wears a Smith Forefront.

Where does it fall on the "is that rider European?" scale?
  • 5 0
is at the "he was kicked out from Europe" point
  • 13 0
It's not quite "I'm Italian and smoke a cigarette at every trail intersection," like the Suomy helmet, but it's definitely got some Euro flare to it.
  • 2 2
It looks as European as an uncircumcised penis. Both figuratively and literally.

 Idk, looks good to me

 @mikelevy: I didn't know about this clichè....

looks a billion times better than bell's super helmet that everyone wears and doesn't complain about.

Burn all the prototypes and fire the designers before it goes into production, in the name of all that is good.
  • 7 1
I like it seems like everybody just want to hate on product. If sam hill wore it u would like it
  • 1 0
Sam Hill wore that early leatt full face. People tagged the heck out of it.

Sh!t design, looks to be terrible venting for actual riding, but yah you can park your Bolle shades in the top. Bolle, you're drunk go back to skiing.

put vents in a ski helmet. shows to boss. boss gives ok , but thinks mountain bike helmets should have a visor, better put one of those on it

You all are missing the point without thought of its white color scheme. It is like a whiteboard that is meant to be customized with your own hand job graphics of trails you'd conquered or for those tiny I came there stickers to show you're unique, rad and for those ice breaker situations at the riders bar you can whip out the dry erase marker to illustrate your epics and lucky to be alive stories.

Never figured it out why the lack of ventilation is a trend this last couple of years Blank Stare
  • 5 2
I like it. IMO has a nostalgic early 90's vibe. Without the visor would complete the look
  • 4 1
I would wear one pair of Bolles, and leave a second pair attached above the visor at all times. Cos it's cool.
  • 6 1
 Looks e-bike specific.
  • 1 0
I wonder why every helmet on the surface of Earth is presented and photographed with the visor all the way down. In this case, rising the visor up doesn't help much, unfortunately.
  • 6 3
 That's the definition of fugly
  • 4 1
Only two helmets left on the planet. This or the Soumo Scrambler?
  • 2 1
Oh, you're mean. I like the Scrambler a lot.
  • 8 0
Is there a third option for head trauma or no?
  • 1 0
Well, at least the suomy comes in full black...

Looks like a dirt jumper helmet with a few holes and a visor. I can't imagine it vents very well, but the coverage looks good.

I like this helmet: simple and nice looking. However, i only do DH fullface helmets.

Sponsored by Bolle but looks more like Lego
  • 1 0
Cant they add more vents on that thing? I guess they tested this helmet kn the winter?
  • 1 0
Please, someone make the first "ebike" specific helmet. I want it to have a drop-down visor.
  • 2 0
It would look great on Max Headroom.

I always wished to have proper sun glasses insert on my helmet for my gnarly enduro trails here ...
