Update:
bigquotesIt's not broken - dislocated collarbone! A bit of rest and I'll be back! Alsatian people are tough! - Jerome Clementz

With the second round of the Enduro World Series just two weeks away the defending champion and winner of round one doesn't have much time to recover - we'll just have to wait and see if Jerome is able to heal quickly enough to compete. Either way, all of us here at Pinkbike wish him a full and fast recovery.

Speedy recovery and all the best, Jerome!

This is gonna give graves a bit of a break...

 Oh *snap*!

Graves must be licking his chops, without surgery a collarbone generally puts you out 4-6 weeks
  • 8 3
 Was Graves in France yesterday?

Don't get those collar bone plates. I know a few moto riders that had them put in and its very uncomfortable, even years after. Take off 6 weeks solid, rushing back to enduro(extreme XC) would not be the best idea. I doubt his team manager would recommend getting the plates but he is in France!
  • 5 2
No offence against MotoGP, it puts massive stress on the human body BUT the range and variations of motion you need in your shoulder for Enduro Racing is a few steps above. So being back on the mountainbike riding against the clock in 2 weeks is very doubtful. Sucks for Jerome! Get well soon!
  • 5 0
The author clealry isn't an Othopod Wink The goal of a fracture fixation plate is never to take stress away from the fracture site and enable return to activities. It is always to promote union of the fracture site and promote correct healing. The Moto GP guys do not require a large Range of Motion in the shoulder so the tend to get a plate to keep the bone end located for healing then strap up the shoulder so you can't move it and take a sh1t ton of painkillers. The strapping and painkillers what gets them back quickly not the plate. Besides the point though as it seems like a dislocation for Jermoe which could potentially be a whole other world of complications Frown Heal up soon Jerome!

Looks pretty innocuous really.

did mine a month or so ago, Im back on road and xc. At the end of this month going to try DH. AC separation grade 3, once you except the bump your good to go \m/. heal up.
  • 3 0
Also living with a big ugly AC bump. Acceptance is the first step.
  • 2 3
I'm guessing you don't know what innocuous means?
  • 3 1
I'm guessing you are a bjergtrolde? I've seen much worse crashes and people were fine.Telling me you haven't?

 @locoola

Defined - 1. Having no adverse effect; harmless

Yeah, he's right, you don't know what it means! He clearly ends 20 feet below the trail in the bushes.

Must have been a different type of rock and bushes down the side of the hill than the real soft ones you are used to.
  • 2 1
It's the initial inelastic collision with the ground from 30 odd mph that would have separated his shoulder, not the travelling 20 feet through some bushes and rocks... Thanks for the English lesson though.
  • 2 0
Yes Let's speculate on what dislocated his collarbone! The primest of all troll food is be made out of nothing, perfect syynthesis! mnom mnom
  • 1 0
You guys know what dislocated his collarbone? His collarbone getting dislocated
  • 1 2
If you think one of the world's fastest riders going head-over-heels, off of the trail, at full race pace looks innocuous, that leads me to one of three conclusions.

1. I don't know the meaning of innocuous.

2. You don't know the meaning of innocuous.

3, You're a fool.

I looked it up to see that it did indeed mean harmless, eliminating #1, then I gave you the benefit of the doubt.
  • 8 3
Hope he choses the natural way. This is mtb and jerome is young and seems wise. there is no big brand pushing the envelope at his health price. I am sure nobody wants to win with jerome and fabien out, but this is a good opportunity for the rest. 2 cents
  • 5 0
If by "dislocated" he means "separated" then he may actually be worse off and he would have been better off with breaking it. A break is a much quicker healing process and only the bone needs to mend. A severe separation (class 3 or 4) is when you literally pull or rip soft tissue off the bone. I had a class 3 separation and it sucked - took months to heal and probably about 9 months before I was back to 90% strength. Then again, I'm not Jerome, nor am I Alsatian! Best of luck!!!
  • 3 1
This. So many people exaggerate their injuries and then say they where back riding within weeks, you break a bone it takes a minimum amount of time to heal to a point where you can consider riding again, usually around the 3 month mark, there is no major difference in healing times between people,no miracle cures, just nature doing it's thing, surgery may help in some cases. Like you say ligament, cartilage or tendon and muscle tears can take even longer than a break. If you healed up in weeks then you didn't have a break or tear of anything. If he has a dislocation then there is the damage caused to the surrounding tissue when it popped out to consider, that will determine how long his recovery takes.

Jorge Lorenzo usually gets back on the bike the week after, even if he can't walk.
  • 1 0
Shoulder separation is NO joke. I separated my left shoulder a couple years ago. Always going to have that crazy bump where the collar bone isn't attached where it should be. It took almost a year before it felt normal and full strength again. Hope Jey's separation is mild and he's back soon.

flag CrzyMD (0 mins ago) [Edit]
I looked at the x-rays. He doesn't have a broken collarbone. He has a 3rd degree A/C separation (shoulder separation). Will recover MUCH faster with A/C joint pinning. Does not require a plate and screw. Fractures to the collarbone and a/c separation are two completely different things and require different treatments.

Mothers always say not to go too fast on those bicycle things, see what happens for not listening! Glad to see the rascal is OK after all, and wish him the quickest recovery.

Update news on facebook. "It's not broken!dislocated collarbone!a bit of rest and i'll be back!! Alsatian people are tough!"
  • 1 0
I can tell you guys that I just broke one collarbone(Two weeks ago) and I am taking the traditional route as opposed to a few years ago where I broke my other collarbone and opted for the serious plate option. The plate is not uncomfortable, but this time around I was happy to not require serious surgery.
  • 2 0
I'm a graves fan but this is not the way to win a championship. The competition between Jerome and Jared is pretty fierce that they bring the best out of each other. Hopefully, Jerome can make a quick recovery.
  • 2 0
History only remembers the result, not the manner in which the victory was won. Graves hasn't won yet anyway.
  • 1 0
for the most part you are correct. But as a competitor, i'd prefer to win knowing that i beat the number one competition on an even ground. but that's just me.
  • 6 2
Take it steady, bollox to the metal work. There's always next year.
  • 5 2
I broke mine snowboarding in Jan, recovery without surgery is 6-8 weeks. I'm sure Jerome will have the best physio/recovery plan avaliable so could well be back for Round 3 hopefully.
  • 5 3
No chance. If it is indeed a broken collar bone and if he goes the natural healing way,he won't be back this season. Bones may start to knit at 6-8 weeks but full strength will be months,at this level you will need to count on full bone strength.
  • 2 0
Took me 6 months to heal from mine naturally. All depends on how its broken. Doubt expense is an issue mind, surely he's insured up. Shame for all the other top riders in the EWS too, I'm sure they would have liked to win fairly against one of the best all round riders. I hope it's not broken, but either way heal up quick JC.
  • 2 0
6 months more like (if its broken)
  • 1 0
 Tell that to Jorge Lorenzo
  • 2 0
Have you had your love in with Jorge Lorenzo yet jaame? Smile It must be the third or fourth identical comment you've posted here. See my reply in the first comment re strapping/ painkillers and reduced requirements for large ROM that get the Moto GP guys through. Super heroes as they may be they are basically held together with tape and have very different functional needs from their bodies in comparison to MTB...
  • 1 1
He's a nutter. Tape or no tape, mentally he's got to be the hardest cunt since Doohan.
  • 4 1
Nico, Fab, Jey fuck ! We could have a triple French podium at every races, but not .....
  • 12 1
There's still Lau, Nicolai, Cure, Absalon and Bailey-Maitre. I think the French will still do ok...
  • 2 1
I agree, but in my opinion, they are the 3 french legend (anne-caro also but she's actually good) ...

I hope Lau and Nicolai will do it properly
  • 1 0
I had my collarbone plated because it was in several pieces and it was 8 weeks until I could ride. Probably could have done it at 6,but opted to play it safe. It was extremely sore for the first week and most of the second.
  • 1 0
Jorge Lorenzo would have been back on the bike the day after.
  • 1 0
I hope he makes it for round 2, really wanted to see him ride close up, I'm marshalling at round 2 in the Tweed Valley in Scotland at my local trails and i want to se how they do it so fast, heal quick Jerome :-)
  • 1 0
Jey uploaded this video guys- www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8Ey5GBzpoo

Apparently his handlebar has caught a tree. Not a surprise, quite a few single tracks in the South of France are not wide enough for 700mm bars :'(
  • 3 1
First Barel now JC... i hope Jared will be careful in this next couple of monthes
  • 6 3
 And still smiling! Unbelievable guy.
  • 3 3
"having significant metalwork has a long-term cost for your body"
What long-term cost? I've had three different plates in my left collarbone and don't notice any long-term effects.
  • 8 1
 give it some time.
  • 12 1
 Tick-tock pedro, son. Tick-tock...
  • 3 3
So far time only lessened the problems... The bone used to hurt before rain and the whole arm used to cramp up when I was sleeping, now nothing. They're supposed to take the plate out down the line, so I can't see why it should be any different from a naturally healed collarbone after the plate's out and everything's healed.
  • 1 0
Having a plate in the collarbone is a pain in the ass. I had an extremely severe break, and even though its not painful, and it feels as good as new, I still can't wear bags on both shoulders, and any weight on the top of the shoulder pinches the skin between the metal and the strap. Getting it removed is all great, but there is a huge risk of infection.
  • 2 0
wow, didn't know half the people on PB were doctors. I just wish him a quick recovery!!!
  • 1 0
Doh! Man, he's been killin it. I actually feel bad for Graves and others. Sure, now there's a chance to get ahead in points, but that's not the way you want to win.
  • 4 1
 Nooooooooooo!
  • 2 0
Pour some beer on it and get back on that horsey!!
  • 1 0
Looks like he is having surgery and will be out for the rest of the summer.

Nah, Graves would be disappointed for Jerome - he's is not a cherry picker, he's there for the battle. Besides there is a stacked field.
  • 3 3
 Don't jinx him.

I wouldnt write off Nico Lau. He should have won Finale last year. Even Martin Maes. He won more stages than anyone in Rd1.
